  • Veteran headstones found forsaken in South Carolina by Trae Zipperer as he travels the country raising awareness about the poor condition of veteran graves everywhere in America. Veteran headstones and grave markers in Bethany Cemetery, Old Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Magnolia Cemetery, and other surrounding cemeteries just outside Charleston, SC are covered in filthy neglect such as black algae, lichens, mold, vines, thorny briars, and other built-up biological growth. White marble stones marking sacred ground shamefully lean, sunken into the earth at odd angles.
    This is your wakeup call South Carolina! This has happened on YOUR watch. I hope this video will inspire you to get up off of your couch and take immediate action to honor military heroes of the past in your local private and municipal cemeteries. Visit our website ByMemorialDay.com to learn how you can be a part of rebuilding patriotism and love of country by scrubbing grime off the headstones of forgotten and unappreciated deceased veterans.

      Outstanding! I have many ancestors known to have lived in SC dating back to before the Revolutionary War. I plan to come spend a few weeks in SC someday to research historical evidence of their existence at local libraries and the SC State Archives. Be sure to Register as a Volunteer at VeteranGraves.com

    So I took this to heart and started cleaning veteran headstones at Saint Patrick's Cemetery in Fayetteville Ohio. Cleaned PFC Harry Dolph's marker, Captain Euphrasia Evans, both WWII vets, Lieutenant Hugh Marshall, GAR, and a couple more. Placed fresh flags at each. Much more to do. If you visit Fayetteville Ohio, please look us up Keep up the cause.

    I’m in the midlands of South Carolina a city named Camden and where do I sign up to help. We have a Quaker cemetery here that has a lot of soldiers in it and myself being a veteran it hurts my heart to see the gravestones look as bad as they do

      I have some ancestors from South Carolina! One of them was a Patriot Soldier during the Revolutionary War and he's buried in a church graveyard in I believe Abbeville, SC. When I visited his grave, I was amazed at the number of Revolutionary War Patriots buried there! Dozens of them. Therefore, I would bet you have a lot of veteran headstones in the Camden area. We are a grass roots ground floor new organization, so we don't yet have official groups established in every town. We will get there, but rather than delay, I'm asking volunteers to visit ByMemorialDay.com, watch the videos, and read the protocol issued by the National Cemetery Administration. Once you've done those things, you should be able to clean a veteran headstone. Just spread the word in your local community and you will get support from patriotic citizens. Someone, maybe you, will step up as a local leader to coordinate headstone cleaning events. Or, just clean one or two, or however many you can by Memorial Day. If each of us does that, we'll get them all cleaned by Memorial Day. Subscribe to this channel. Like By Memorial Day on Facebook. Register at VeteranGraves.com.

    I got a few questions, Can D/2 be used for non/veteran headstones with different materials? And is it safe for a 9 to 14 year old to use D/2?

    • @honoryourdna8897
      @honoryourdna8897  3 года назад

      I recommend you contact the manufacturer of D/2 Biological Solution directly via their website at D2bio.com. It is my understanding D/2 can be used to clean both marble and granite, so it applies to headstones both government-furnished veteran grave markers and privately purchased headstones. At By Memorial Day, we promote cleaning government-furnished veteran headstones and grave markers, because they remain federal property and therefore are easier to obtain permission to clean. Privately purchased headstones are considered private property and some cemetery caretakers strictly forbid the cleaning of headstones except by family members. However, some cemetery caretakers do have common sense and allow volunteers to clean ANY headstones obviously abandoned and forgotten by family members. As for age, check the product label and consult with the manufacturer, but we've had volunteers as young as 5 years old and nobody has had any problems.

    American Revolution was fought in South Carolina as well as their were some who fought in the War of 1812: War with Mexico, The Civil War and Spanish American War...There has been South Carolinians in every USA conflict. But to me ...what I want to see at the "Magnolia Cemetery," is where the Men of the "Hunley" submarine is buried. Sorry, I could not be there, the day that they were buried.

      I happened upon the graves of the Hunley crew members while visiting Magnolia Cemetery. The first crew perished. The second crew, including Hunley himself, perished. Volunteers still stepped into that submarine for the third attempt. Uncommon valor.

      Two of my Patriot grandfathers were surrendered with the United States Army of the South when Charleston fell to the British during the Revolutionary War. They were held prisoners of war on prison hulks in Charleston Harbor.
