I was there for the whole week event at Explo '72...me and some 30 others of my church group (or was that more? It was 50 years ago plus 2 months as I write this in August of 2022) All I know was it was memorable...even if we didn't get much sleep or great meals but Hey! I was nearly 22 then and from Indianapolis and literally full-charged like an Indy race car! I still cherish my several memorable items. Just wished I had still the few cassette recordings I did back then.
Thanking you and will respect that this is for research and only for my personal interest...thanks so much though for sharing...a great era to have been involved in for me back in my own country NZ...appreciate again...
Graham " WHATEVER it (Hell) means is seperation from God." Yes, Hell is eternal separation from God but its not "whatever it means" God is clear its eternal torment in the Lake of Fire because sin seperates one from God and the wages of sin is death (eternal punishment in hell fire with Satan and his angels). Jesus said to repent (turn from sin) and believe the gospel and not all that say to Him Lord, will enter the Kingdom of Heaven although they do many wonderful works in His name because they have not turned from their sin...they are workers ofi iniquity. Billy was a pleaser of men and not of God. Believe and follow the God and Jesus of the Bible not these tickling ear preachers.
It is not as clear as it is thought. We know the lake of fire is the second death, and it will be eternal suffering for satan, the false prophet and the beast, but there seems to me like there is a possibility of this second death being an annihilation of the soul in this lake of fire or a destruction of the soul as Jesus calls it when He tells people to fear Him who can destroy both body and soul in hell. When eternal punishment is used, it could mean that it is eternal in the sense that it is a definitive punishment for all of eternity. I don't rule out eternal suffering in fire for those who reject Christ. Regardless, the most important part is: why would you not accept Christ's free gift of righteousness and reconnected with God for eternity through Him? I would also say "whatever hell is", because I don't have 100% certainty of it, and it is described in a lot of ways, sometimes it's called outer darkness for example. But it is definitely an eternal separation from God, which sounds like the worst nightmare imaginable, even without the fire. The full gospel pertains to recognizing you're a sinner, seeing God's love and salvation through Christ, putting your trust in Him, being baptized and receiving the Holy Spirit as a seal of your redemption. In that sense we are saved from hell, whatever hell may be, because we become reunited with God through the Holy Spirit living in us. This is eternal life which will continue after this earthly life is over.
If Graham is preaching that, then he is preaching the gospel, and you can bet talking about Jesus being the only way to the Father does not "please men" as you say. Try telling people that there is no other way to know God except Christ. You will be reviled by non-christians, I guarantee it
Praise be in ‘72 and praise be today. The message and the story remain the truth.
