I have an Ariya. First, here in the EU the base Ariya costs in my area about 39k€ before incentives, so pretty good price. I got a fully loaded one except AWD for 46k€ before incentives at launch.
Some things to note on the video, the price of that one piece curved glass for the two screens is not cheap to manufacture, all lights on the interior are LED, touch controlled and dimmable, the usefulness of the center console is questionable but it has been useful to me to change from the drivers position to the other seat when I park against a side wall or column, it's the easiest vehicle on which I can do that, also it's useful when I recline the seat for taking a nap and using it all the way back as an arm rest that way. The cupholders work good enough in practice, there's no frunk because all the HVAC system that usually is beneath the dash is under the hood to isolate better from the cabin, to give more ample space on the front floor and to use it on a crash as an additional crumple box before touching the firewall. The tables on the trunk in fact has a lot more of positions and usability than you mention and has been copied by other brands a lot here since the Qashqai launched on EU with those since 2007. The second glovebox is motorized on that trim and has a sliding table too.
There's also a lot o money that goes in other elements that are not disclosed here like exterior elements, platform elements, body construction, etc. but that are disclosed by Nissan in various technical reports and whitepapers.

Someone who works for nissan here; good video! Detail oriented,
I drive an Ariya myself and I like it; and I can acknowledge someone of its shortcomings but overall I like it.
Just a little FYI, there is one trim level that does not have the powered at center Console, and it looks like you are looking at one of the Premiere/Empower which I believe is 56K I don’t know of a trim level that has a 59K MSRP
Overall I like the video even if it’s critical.

The platinum had an MSRP of 60+k before this latest price drop just announced of about 6k for 2024 models. I just leased a 2023 Ariya Evolve+ e4orce which has an MSRP of 57k but after incentives it came out to 38k, only 2k more than we leased our 2021 CRV Touring FWD for back in 2021. I absolutely love the Ariya and never want to drive an ICE car again. This is our 1st EV so maybe it's the newness of it but at that price point I'm thrilled. My payment is also $34 less per month. The money factor on the 2023 model leases is a quarter of what it is for 2024 models and they've dropped the "lease cash" from $7500 (federal incentive given at point of sale) to $3300. At least here in Vermont, these are the numbers. We also qualified for the full 5k state incentive and Green Mountain Power gave us $2200, a free level 2 charger and discounted EV charging rate off peak. The dealer gave us 4k off as well. We couldn't afford not to buy an EV.

This will probably be my next car. Why? Because right now I have a Tesla from 2020, a Ford Mach E from 2022 and a Leaf from 2015. Of the three the Leaf is the only parked outside. It’s paint job is holding up better than the other two and while both the ford and the Tesla has had multiple errors and spent lots of time at the dealers the Leaf hasn’t needed anything else than normal service since I got it. And I spent 1/4 as much money on the leaf than the other two - and I still get treated better at the Nissan dealer than Ford or Tesla.

Ordered one in the UK. It's the advance trim model. 63kwh battery FWD version. Don't have electric centre console but agree on the higher trims is feels more of a gimmick. The dash and screens including all doors are included in the base model. Alternatively the interior space is impressive and you missed two important things. One is the extra glove box in the dash and the heater /AC systems are under the front hood making full use of the open dash flooring to include no noise from the blowers. The money is mostly in the tech, battery and drivetrain and being built in Japan only so where you are no federal tax benefits go against the price of all models.

Thanks Carl. I do like that blue color on this EV. At the price Nissan is listing these for and the markup the dealers are putting on them this is not a great buy when you compare it to the Model Y. We looked at one at our dealership and they wanted $70k which put it $18k above a MY Performance. I imagine when this is two to three years old and the price is around $30K this would be a better option, but then the tech will be that many more years behind. Nissan should have introduced this under their Infiniti luxury brand as a replacement for the QX/FX Suv's.

I was very interested in the Nissan Arya because I am a fan of the Leaf, and was thinking this was going to be a next generation Leaf. It’s not. It’s a different car. More crossover SUV than car. Then I saw the price. The first price I saw was in the $50’s. My enthusiasm dimmed. I am expecting more than I am currently seeing. I am seeing more Versa/Sentra than Maxima/Altima. I don’t yet see the value I get with this car over what I would be getting with a Murano, Pathfinder or Rouge.

This is one of the best looking EVs. Should be around $40,000.
As an owner of an ice vehicle and a cheap hybrid vehicle, I just don't see paying more for an EV than what I'd pay for an ice vehicle. Why are EVs costing more ? They are so less complicated than an ice vehicle. I keep hearing that batteries are expensive...Well, that's not my problem. I'll continue to wait till the EVs come down to a reasonable price.

Exterior styling and the IP strike me as Tesla-like in their approach to minimalism. Approaching only. Not completely there. Putting stuff on the exterior has always struck me as useless. Keep it smooth and aerodynamic with minimal protuberances and parts. That gets into the realm of design art though, and some people like lots of stuff - hence Cadillac. That powered console is a full on brain melt. Great details review as always.

The moving console and sun roof are gratuitous features the buyer will use once or twice and then ignore. That is extra expense and just more items which may fail. I had a 2011 LEAF and one good thing I can say about it is that it had tons of headroom for a tall person such as me. The Ariya looks horribly cramped for headroom. Speaking of stuff which can fail,my experience with the LEAF was pretty bad. I do my own wrenching and source parts at discount when I can. Even at that, I had to replace the driver window switch module, couldn’t lower the window, $120. Replaced coolant pump, one of three, $390. Replaced electric boost master cylinder, no brake force at key-on, $950. Those last two repairs, the dealer quote was $2,500 each. All that happened when the car was under five years old. Nissan, never again, for me. Those are all things which should last well more than five years. I went back and forth with Nissan’s corporate representative at their HQ in Tennessee for several months about the master cylinder because it happened weeks past the end of Nissan’s own three year warranty extension. I was basically told to go pound salt, and that was after I had to pay $100 to a dealer to read the codes. Like I said, never again.

Hi. I do not really understand the constant reference to 60kUSD when the starting price of the Ariya is at 43kUSD. Sure in a simpler trim but with more or less the same interior. It is quite evident that the gap pays for the 91kWh battery.

  • @handsofdoubt31
    @handsofdoubt31 Год назад +3

I have an Ariya. A few things to mention. Firstly I completely agree about the gimmicky centre console. That was a bad move. In the standard version it doesn't move but the layout is exactly the same. So even though you don't have the gimmick you also don't get any of the storage you could have. They have the "secret" compartment in the centre of the dash. I think they should have gone with a static and practical console and moved the wireless charging to the "secret" compartment.
Also agree about the lack of a frunk. There are good reasons though and it's not really a problem. You missed part of the function of the trunk split panels. You can slot the first panel vertically against the other. So compartmentalise the trunk space. This is actually really useful and I use it all the time.
When you look at the base model you are getting decent value. I don't see the value in the higher spec models unless you really want AWD. You never touch any of the cheaper interior materials so the overall feel is quality. It certainly feels on a par with some pretty high spec german cars. All in all I love mine. It's got it's downsides but everything else more than makes up for them imo.

I find it frustrating that Nissan can do so well with some of the styling and then strike out on things like packaging for a frunk and deep tub in the trunk. Those are things that we always leverage on our Y and it's much easier to get over the minimalistic interior when it can hold so much stuff. Also, the range and performance don't seem up to par.

@markplott4820 That expression should be taken with a huge grain of salt. I design stuff for a living and every part I add is days of paperwork, and headaches but more parts are often a good thing. A car company might save a few minutes putting a single ipod-esq scroll wheel in place of a cluster of buttons but a driver will spend 10,000 hours driving that car and operate those buttons thousands of times, saving parts while creating a frustrating, slow and dangerous interface is a major net negative. Of all of the cars I have owned buttons have never failed, transmissions and head gaskets failed but never buttons, they figured out how to design a good reliable button and knob so let me have that over some gimicky capacitive bullshit.

Own my EV6 AWD since May 2022 with all in and it’s actually one of the best offers at its price. Critics come from trolls not even knowing that the outstanding 800 volts platform is called E-GMP. Think there is reporting from hearsay only but as a business consultant I could try most cars on offer. So actually there is no BMW, Audi, Mercedes (or too expensive Nissan) that is comparable in all aspects to the three Koreans Genesis GV60, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 AWD. I had not one single issue with my car what in 54 years of driving mostly German premium and only once forever shitty V8 Pontiac that I was giving back after one year because it was not drivable on European roads. The EV6 was made up by former boss of BMW M-Sports Albert Biermann and design is from Karim Habib. Finition is near perfect and battery performs better than expected. Range is far better than expected too and I live in Swiss alps where we also have hard winter. At my distributorship they only changed wheels two times and updated software for better charge planning, now at Tesla level. In a fast trip to Italy I lately made nearly 600 km with only one charge as recuperation is close to perfect. Always with A/C on at 21°C. So only a Tesla Model Y is an adequate competition to the Kia! Last summer it also performed well on Anneau du Rhin race track to test tires against more powerful Alfa-Romeo Stelvio Quadrofoglio with 510 Ferrari-PS against my ‚only‘ 333 PS but higher torque of 608 Nm Kia. They just reinvented themselves in a new class of cars. They know also how near China is with beautiful and performant products but from Europe and the states at present there is only #1 to safe the industry.😂🤔🤓

Wow, makes me wonder where the additional expense is going to, my 2023 Ionic 5 Limited, had the movable console but manual and worked just fine, did not have ducts as they were mounted on the centre pillars, my seat stitching was better, no Nissan has lost their ability to clearly delivery quality and great engineering and Hyundai has gained it! Sorry Nissan you are missing what you once had, sorry for your loss!

I just realized the Lexus RX hybrid is cheaper than this. Nissan needs to drop the price by $10K IMO to stay competitive.

I'd take the Polestar 2 or Tesla Model Y over this, and save money. I can't see Nissan selling many of these at $60k.

Lol.. you don’t have to guess at it.. it’s been on sale for about a year and they barely sell any. Model Y kills this thing on just about every metric.. a few people with the bucks to blow seem to either just really like Nissan.. or really hate Tesla.. or find the aesthetic differences nice enough to spend the extra money to get a less capable EV.

CARL - the ARYIA is not Advanced TECH , its LACKING a FRUNK and has lots of WASTED space.
its an INEFFICIENT Design at best.
NISSAN would have been Better off, just making the LEAF Better.

$59K is absurd for a Nissan, cheap parts, what a racket, that's Audi territory, with real build quality...this is absurd prices, like all EV's especially Tesla with horrible low quality build, on their $140,000 piece of garbage

  • @markplott4820

CARL - you left out the USELESS Powered Drawer in the Center IP . in Front of the Center arm Rest Power Console.
that too would cost Nissan a lot to Engineer w/ Motors and Actuators. it also has 2 Pivot points , to bring it out of Stowed position , into a Useful position. very EXPENSIVE in my opinion. DELETE .
also , worth Mentioning the Glove Box is very Small and USELESS.
