EDIT: Holy crap! I can't believe that I got so many likes and comments. Yes, the bear is named this, as it is stated on the plaque around his neck. I love bad puns and thought it was humorous and clever. He seemed like a very curious bear, so I imagined him going on lots of zany adventures, even before the cocaine. What a crazy way to go. I can think of worse ways.

Mr. Ballen went to the Fun Mall in Kentucky, and put his hand upon the Cocaine Bear. He closed his eyes, and made a connection with the spirit of the bear. It asked for its story to be told.

Great episode Mr. Ballen! I just thought I’d let you know for future reference sake that an internal medical examination of an animal is actually called a necropsy while for a human it is an autopsy. Hope that little bit of info helps. 🙂

@@ThatorThisTopic Well necropsy is derived from the Greek word “nekros” meaning dead body and “opsis” meaning sight with for autopsy come from the Greek “auto” meaning self. Not entirely sure why they prefer the distinction between the two terms for examining a dead animal versus body.

I'm SO happy you did a video on this. Ever since I saw the trailer, as a huge history fanatic and animal lover, I was baffled bc 1) I never expected for someone to make a movie over it, let alone a major motion picture like that, and 2) I've legit been telling EVERYONE about it actually happening since I saw the trailer and no one believes me half the time and I'm like "IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED", not like the movie but yk they exaggerate😂🤣

I've worn hearing aids since the fifth grade. Pretty much everything I watch has to have subtitles turned on. Mr. Ballen's voice hits me at a wavelength that enables me to enjoy the fantastic stories without struggling through subtitles. Very refreshing and much appreciated. THANKS!
Subtitles are a struggle? Huh, no idea I've been struggling for years instead of appreciating them. Lots of people wear hearing aids btw. It's a billion dollar industry. And well known that mens voices and their vocal range is easier to catch than shrill whispery womens voices

I listened to this podcast shortly after it came out and just saw the movie the other day, and I have to thank Mr. Ballen for telling me the story. The movie was insane and gut wrenching. Now I’m gonna go back and re-listen to this to hear the differences.

Bears aren't really that noisy. Walking through a campground I turned a corner of a cabin, bumping into the rear end of a large black bear, then falling over on top of it. As there were black bears around the cabins all throughout the day, I wasn't surprised, but I was afraid that since I just basically jumped onto the back of this bear, that it would immediately turn around and maul me. I stood up and put my hands up, as if I were being mugged lol, the bear slowly turned its head to make eye-contact and when it did, it's eyes got really big, and it hesitantly waddled over behind a very skinny tree, and attempted to hide behind it, hiding it's face against the small trunk, and peeking out every few seconds, and hiding its face again when it saw I hadn't left. It was by far the cutest thing I have ever seen a wild animal do, but also seeing them rip open a large metal dumpster earlier in the day, it was really scary.
The best part of your story is the bear trying to hide 😂😂 “if I stand real still this weird human who tripped over me won’t see me”
Bears are indeed quiet. There was a momma and her cubs in the forest behind my place last week. They were extremely close.
I didn't see or hear them until I turned on my truck, and the light reflected off of their eyes.

Does anyone else find it impossible to simply "listen" to his stories? I always think I am going to do something else while listening but am completely captivated watching him tell the story! Not sure Ballen could tell a story with his hands tied behind his back. Everything about his videos is captivating. Don't ever change a thing Ballen! I look for the signature flannel shirt at every video. I look to see if his hat matches the shirt. I listen for pranks on the like button. And relish over the occasional case of the giggles when doing a product referral. I sure hope Ballen never stops doing videos. I will definitely go into withdrawal!

Just started watching and I'm already so jazzed about this story cuz Mr. Ballen can't stop smiling while he's explaining the story coming up.
When I first saw the trailer for the movie, I told my dad cause we are both horror fans, and he told me that a bear actually got high on cocaine practically surprising me cause I thought the bear would die from ingesting cocaine and my dad said that bears are big animals. So in context, I actually thought that the story was that the bear ate a bag of cocaine getting high and started attacking people until someone shot it or something without knowing the details or looking it up. I literally didn’t know that nobody was attacked by the bear and the bear actually died from the cocaine.
No wonder u got Nominated for 3 STREAMY AWARDS..U have the ability to turn ANY STORY LINE into STRANGE, DARK, and MYSTERIOUS..YOU'RE SIMPLY THE BEST..BETTER THAN ALL THE REST!!! I LOVE IT ❤

@@LRuso The best storyteller on RUclips by far. He could easily be the star of a RUclips series with the way he tells stories and have high production value on the stories he tells. He gets you into the skin of the people he talks about like you're there living it with them. If you can't see that, then you don't watch him enough and idk what else to tell you.

@@JaneDoe42011 Netflix typically let's the person write it how they want if he was going to do so. So I think it could be a bit better with even more backstory and images he would be allowed to use with the funding. He could also have people track the facts and put the same twist on it he does with his stories to make them more invigorating. He does on occasion take personal liberties to get into the story. Maybe have some of the people involved on their and ask them how to describe the situation to them. Idk.

I always rather watch Mr. Ballen talk about any topic even if there’s tons of others covering the same topics. He is just so captivating and entertaining to watch/listen too because even if I can’t watch a video, while at like work or something like that, I still listen to his videos with my earbuds.

Umm He was a cocaine dealer who would cause countless others death via cocaine distribution 💀. . He got exactly what he deserved ;it is the poor bear 🐻 that did not deserve its fate .

Even though I was but a wee child I vaguely remember this on the news in Knoxville, at least the part of the pilot. Ah the 80's were such crazy times.
MrBallen should definitely have a special gathering of people where he tells stories around a campfire and the proceeds go to charity! The camping trip could be filmed in this type style and could be used as a special for youtube also making more money for whatever he wants! Im here for it!

I think this is a great idea. But I think the profits should go to MrBallen. For a few years now he has gave us brilliant stories over all different media outlets & probably hasn't made a lot of money from this. N we need to remember he has a family.. a wife & kids. I'm sure as much as he loves doing this, he needs to provide for them too. Maybe ina few years he could look into donating the profits to charity but right now his family need to come first.
I agree but i dont think he would want to keep the profits is why i suggested it. I believe he just opened his own non-profit to help victims of crime or similar. But yes i do agree he could keep it all and no one would judge he deserves it!

Great Story
Thank you for covering this story! I've heard of the infamous "cocaine bear" before, and unfortunately, there's a lot of misinformation around this story. Some people seem to think the bear went on a drug infused killing spree, but really, the bear was a victim :( Poor thing had no idea what it had gotten into. I know it's a wild animal, but the way people have made this innocent bear out to be some sort of monster is honestly sad.
Hope they don’t portray the bear 🐻 in that way in the movie. Poor innocent bear.

This story makes me sad, the poor bear, R.I.P Cocaine Bear. Most stories by Mr. Ballen could definitely be seen as short films but this one in particular. He could make going to the bathroom sound climactic and thrilling and his flannels are just something to be admired words just cannot describe.

What do you mean "poor bear"? For the few minutes that bear was alive after the coke binge, you know he was THE apex predator, the most deadly animal alive, and was probably ready to fight God (and win). Great way to go out.

What I find fascinating about the story, is the incredibly detail the bear was able to document of his events.. right down to opening the bag and a big puff of powder, and feeling so great he just wanted to run! Well done Mr Bear

A lot of details seem a little off to me in this story. Like how he said deer hunting rifles aren't nearly enough to deal with a bear. A 30-06 round to the head of a bear would very likely stop it in its tracks. The bang itself could even send the bear running. I will say its definitely not optimal though and if you don't hit it in the right spot you could just piss it off.

I love how the stories intertwined, the guy who crashed out of nowhere on the senior's pavement I knew this incident well but I had no clue it was in relation to the Cocaine 'drop' and 'BEAR'...this video like all of your videos was great!

Apparently, according to his son (Shooter Jennings), Waylon never owned the stuffed Bear, nor a home in Las Vegas. Shooter said he has no idea where the story came from, but consider it "fact checked".

The time I do that: well honestly…I’m from the 5 videos a week days. Everyday a new notification. I’ve kind of lost interest the last two months or so. I think he went too hard in the beginning and now finding decent stories is tough. But the podcast and the other channel all are just repeats from this channel. Besides the one new podcast a week I think it is. No hate but I miss the days when I felt more like you.

The way Ballen tells stories is amazing. His voice IS NOT annoying and adds the perfect amount of emotion without going over the top, or adding too much info. He seems to be a natural storyteller.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I feel like his constant exaggerated hand movements are way too distracting and give me motion sickness. He never used to do that in the beginning. I can only listen to the audio now. Takes me back to the early days of this channel.

Please do a story about the mob of kangaroos in Tasmania that broke into a state-owned opium poppy farm and became so strung out, and actually violent in some cases, that the whole mob needed to be euthanised. They had even been cooperatively breaking down fences, which on a state-owned poppy farm are going to be substantial structures. But on the night that a worker finally discovered what was going on, the whole mob - roughly 20-50 kangaroos - was bouncing around in a circle together, almost as if they were dancing. The whole thing elicited behaviour never before seen in kangaroos; cooperation and planning, etc. Such a classic story ...
