Great episode Mr. Ballen! I just thought I’d let you know for future reference sake that an internal medical examination of an animal is actually called a necropsy while for a human it is an autopsy. Hope that little bit of info helps. 🙂
@@ThatorThisTopic Well necropsy is derived from the Greek word “nekros” meaning dead body and “opsis” meaning sight with for autopsy come from the Greek “auto” meaning self. Not entirely sure why they prefer the distinction between the two terms for examining a dead animal versus body.

MrBallen should definitely have a special gathering of people where he tells stories around a campfire and the proceeds go to charity! The camping trip could be filmed in this type style and could be used as a special for youtube also making more money for whatever he wants! Im here for it!
I think this is a great idea. But I think the profits should go to MrBallen. For a few years now he has gave us brilliant stories over all different media outlets & probably hasn't made a lot of money from this. N we need to remember he has a family.. a wife & kids. I'm sure as much as he loves doing this, he needs to provide for them too. Maybe ina few years he could look into donating the profits to charity but right now his family need to come first.
I agree but i dont think he would want to keep the profits is why i suggested it. I believe he just opened his own non-profit to help victims of crime or similar. But yes i do agree he could keep it all and no one would judge he deserves it!
Apparently, according to his son (Shooter Jennings), Waylon never owned the stuffed Bear, nor a home in Las Vegas. Shooter said he has no idea where the story came from, but consider it "fact checked".
i know it's been popularized for a while now, but you gave this story so much life. it's always intriguing to hear a story so close to home aswell, it almost feels unbelievable.
Bears aren't really that noisy. Walking through a campground I turned a corner of a cabin, bumping into the rear end of a large black bear, then falling over on top of it. As there were black bears around the cabins all throughout the day, I wasn't surprised, but I was afraid that since I just basically jumped onto the back of this bear, that it would immediately turn around and maul me. I stood up and put my hands up, as if I were being mugged lol, the bear slowly turned its head to make eye-contact and when it did, it's eyes got really big, and it hesitantly waddled over behind a very skinny tree, and attempted to hide behind it, hiding it's face against the small trunk, and peeking out every few seconds, and hiding its face again when it saw I hadn't left. It was by far the cutest thing I have ever seen a wild animal do, but also seeing them rip open a large metal dumpster earlier in the day, it was really scary.
Bears are indeed quiet. There was a momma and her cubs in the forest behind my place last week. They were extremely close. I didn't see or hear them until I turned on my truck, and the light reflected off of their eyes.
I listened to this podcast shortly after it came out and just saw the movie the other day, and I have to thank Mr. Ballen for telling me the story. The movie was insane and gut wrenching. Now I’m gonna go back and re-listen to this to hear the differences.

@@LRuso The best storyteller on RUclips by far. He could easily be the star of a RUclips series with the way he tells stories and have high production value on the stories he tells. He gets you into the skin of the people he talks about like you're there living it with them. If you can't see that, then you don't watch him enough and idk what else to tell you.
@@JaneDoe42011 Netflix typically let's the person write it how they want if he was going to do so. So I think it could be a bit better with even more backstory and images he would be allowed to use with the funding. He could also have people track the facts and put the same twist on it he does with his stories to make them more invigorating. He does on occasion take personal liberties to get into the story. Maybe have some of the people involved on their and ask them how to describe the situation to them. Idk.
This story makes me sad, the poor bear, R.I.P Cocaine Bear. Most stories by Mr. Ballen could definitely be seen as short films but this one in particular. He could make going to the bathroom sound climactic and thrilling and his flannels are just something to be admired words just cannot describe.
What do you mean "poor bear"? For the few minutes that bear was alive after the coke binge, you know he was THE apex predator, the most deadly animal alive, and was probably ready to fight God (and win). Great way to go out.
The way Ballen tells stories is amazing. His voice IS NOT annoying and adds the perfect amount of emotion without going over the top, or adding too much info. He seems to be a natural storyteller.

What I find fascinating about the story, is the incredibly detail the bear was able to document of his events.. right down to opening the bag and a big puff of powder, and feeling so great he just wanted to run! Well done Mr Bear
A lot of details seem a little off to me in this story. Like how he said deer hunting rifles aren't nearly enough to deal with a bear. A 30-06 round to the head of a bear would very likely stop it in its tracks. The bang itself could even send the bear running. I will say its definitely not optimal though and if you don't hit it in the right spot you could just piss it off.

Yea It was so weird like, first we’re talking about a hunter finding a dead bear with no signs of attack, then to pilots having intercepting messages on their plane and jumping out, then to a man with Alzheimer’s getting up to find something weird in their driveway, and then it all connecting at once. That was so cool and I hate it so much that they’re making a movie about it. I saw ads about it and thought that it was dumb and saw this and thought right as the bear sniffed and ate the “substance” in the bag, that the bear was sniffing drugs and immediately started hating that that movie was probably true and this story was that.

I was in suspense from the get go and became increasingly intrigued as the tale went on. Furthermore, you gave the unfortunate victim of a coke smuggler some personhood; he wasn't just a hungry black bear in the forest, he was a being who fell victim to a human's actions. Each story within the grand tale was given equal consideration and expertly woven into your opus' final movement and given a finish that would have made Mozart weep. Love that Mr. Ballen describes what the bear thought, saw and smelled! That's some good story telling, right there.
Since when did cocaine smell like flowers though
He must've interviewed the bear...
@@adam100a8 Beats me, but I guess Mr. Ballen does his research. Sniffing coke to get the story right seems like a small price to pay! 🤣
Man this was a great story. And the way Mr. Ballen expertly unwraps each layer is just amazing storytelling. So fun! I feel bad for the poor bear though. He was just trying to eat some lunch 😪

He probably had the most fun any animal has ever had for 5 seconds
Nah he was trying to high af
He’s the only person I can listen to on a podcast. I listen to his podcasts too!
It’s crazy; He will put content that I have already watched on RUclips, but the way he retells it and adds a few little twists I can actually listen to it again even though I know what’s going to happen! I love the way he tells stories!!!
He felt REALLY good, and then nothing at all. 🙏 🐻
Great episode Mr. Ballen! I just thought I’d let you know for future reference sake that an internal medical examination of an animal is actually called a necropsy while for a human it is an autopsy. Hope that little bit of info helps. 🙂
Why necro? What does that derive from? What about auto for humans? Not trying to be a smart ass. I'm genuinely curious
@tarabradford1848 simply to make sure that there is a distinction between the two so when reading an examination report the interpreters know ahead of time what they're reading about
@@tarabradford1848 When I was a veterinary assistant, I wondered about the difference. Perhaps humans were thought to have a consciousness that could "see" or somehow direct the discovery?

MrBallen should definitely have a special gathering of people where he tells stories around a campfire and the proceeds go to charity! The camping trip could be filmed in this type style and could be used as a special for youtube also making more money for whatever he wants! Im here for it!
Would be great to give the funds to a veteran's charity.. Especially since so many have problems after coming out of the military. 😊
He could dress up like C-3PO and the guests dress up like Ewoks around the campfire. That would be hilarious!
@@cherylcobern4483 He already does this 😃
I think this is a great idea.
The idea of Waylon Jennings owning the Cocaine bear taxidermy is top tier what a legend.
Waylon wanted what was in its stoumach. A huge rock of snow.
@@bazglsgw1208 hell yh
How is that a legend?
Apparently, according to his son (Shooter Jennings), Waylon never owned the stuffed Bear, nor a home in Las Vegas. Shooter said he has no idea where the story came from, but consider it "fact checked".
Wow! This story has become legend and the actual story is far from what I’ve heard in the past. Thanks Mr. Ballen!
i know it's been popularized for a while now, but you gave this story so much life. it's always intriguing to hear a story so close to home aswell, it almost feels unbelievable.
Man, nothing this interesting EVER happens in southern GA. It's boring here.
Even though I was but a wee child I vaguely remember this on the news in Knoxville, at least the part of the pilot. Ah the 80's were such crazy times.
The best part of your story is the bear trying to hide 😂😂 “if I stand real still this weird human who tripped over me won’t see me”
Bears are indeed quiet. There was a momma and her cubs in the forest behind my place last week. They were extremely close.
I didn't see or hear them until I turned on my truck, and the light reflected off of their eyes.
It probably would of killed you had you not accidentally displayed dominance by mounting its back

I don't understand why Netflix won't/haven't given this man a show called like "How to get to Bells Canyon with Mr Allen", "Strange, Dark, and Mysterious" or "Story Time with Mr Ballen" etc. He deserves it and I would LOVE to see some high production value on his storytelling!
Da fuk u think this guy is?
@@LRuso The best storyteller on RUclips by far. He could easily be the star of a RUclips series with the way he tells stories and have high production value on the stories he tells. He gets you into the skin of the people he talks about like you're there living it with them. If you can't see that, then you don't watch him enough and idk what else to tell you.
I'd be afraid that would ruin it. His channel is perfect as is.
Idk.
