They make the animations after in the west, to get some improvised lines and actor expressions in, but in the east, such as Japan, they usually animate first.
Here's a story of a guy I know: He works with dead people. So from when someone is dead till they go to the grave, he takes care of the body etc. And dead people need to wear some nice clothing in their coffin, so he asked the wife to bring some clothes. And she brings it to him the next day, and guess what? No pants. And he's like "Uh, miss, you forgot the pants." And she's looks at him with a bit squinting eyes and says, "No, I don't think so." And he's like, "But... I don't see pants? Where are they?" But then in a more respectful way of course. Trying to Keep in mind that she just lost her husband. And then she goes "Sir, my husband was a double amputee." And then he remembered and just stood there. Totally ashamed. He said it was the most awkward moment of his life.
I mean, he still had a penis, right? At least a pelvis? Even double amputees will wear shorts with the legs tied to cover themselves, but maybe she just brought a really long shirt.
I imagine how when you went to the field trips we teachers must've thought that "aww he just wants to be like the other kids", but you just wanted to get out of class :D
My ex-boyfriend is blind. We went to place that they had move a bunch of historic buildings to and had recreated a "town" as if it was the 1920's. There were never many volunteers around so I used to help him reach over railings and around barriers so he could touch stuff. They had recreated a silent movie theater and one time they were playing Charlie Chaplain's "Gold Rush". I tried my best to describe what was going on and there was music. He enjoyed it, he liked all the strange antics. I felt like the silent movie was just an extended version of what I would normally do when watching movies together. No matter what movie I would try to describe actions or settings that were important to the story. His favorite movies were Woody Allen movies as most of the content in them is the dialog. But, he didn't know that Woody Allen frequently gesticulates strangely until I mimed him through a scene where Woody is talking to his "analyst" in Annie Hall. And then there was the time I mimed him through the choreography of You Can't Get A Man With A Gun from Annie Get Your Gun. He thought the song was funny and wouldn't stop laughing the whole time, we used a wooden spoon as a prop gun. Dating someone who is blind is tough and can feel restarting at times but it was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed that most of the time we needed to interaction one way or another.
I didn't date him because of his blindness. My advice is don't aim to date someone blind. Because if that is the main focus then more then likely it will crash and burn. I will say that I did feel closer to my ex-boyfriend then I had any of the others. The nature of it means you have to communicate more about almost everything. For example sometimes I would be angry with him and glare at him and remember he can't perceive that so I'd tell him "I'm glaring at you". Dating a blind person takes some extra patience and understanding. I personally found that because I liked him for him I didn't feel that the extra effort feel like extra. Bottom line is, If I hadn't really liked him it wouldn't have been worth it but that is the truth no matter had be been sighted or blind.
Yea, sometimes I felt stupid for saying things like that. But I realized that if I didn't verbalize it then it would never make any impact. I also seem to remember him saying something along the lines of "You know thats a waste of energy, right?" We had a good laugh about stuff like that. When you are dating or are friends with a blind person you sometimes need to verbalize things that wouldn't be necessary to verbalize to sighted people. A lot of the stuff I'm expressing or saying I did with him kind of manifested naturally regardless of whether I felt silly about doing/saying it. I feel like I should find a way to re-jig the phrase "necessity is the mother of invention" to fit this. I feel a phrase like that explains it pretty well.
Considering that modern art can consist of a piece of shit on a wall surrounded by bright colors to symbolize existential revolution, I also agree with his statement about art galleries.
A man taped a banana to a wall and sold it for a few hundred thousand dollars. A school kid placed a pineapple on a table in a museum and 6 days later there was a glass casing surrounding it. So yes, art is trash.
I have a toddler. He's not blind or anything (thankfully), but listening to these childhood antics makes me so happy. In 8 or 10 years time, when he gets in trouble at school, if his adventures are half as funny as these are, I don't know how I'm going to be able to keep a straight face when talking to the teacher.

One of my daughters' favorite things to do is draw. She sketches, colors, and really loves sidewalk chalk. About a year ago she told me about a boy in her class who is "vision impaired". He can't see much more than blurry shapes and colors, even with thick glasses. She was worried because he was her assigned partner for art, and she didn't want a bad grade. I suggested finger paints and play dough (even though they are in middle school). A few weeks later she brought me some of his art. He had made a 3-D model of the palm of a hand in finger paint, and and an amazing little "cake" with a bow on it in modeling clay. She told me "He really likes it when I bring dough and clay. He wants to make hands for people who don't have any when he grows up. I'm helping him practice." I worry about kids with disabilities in public school because its often hard to develop resources for them, especially if you have multiple kids with various handicaps. But having the other parents aware and involved can really help. My kid may be getting sculpting tools instead of new pencils to take to school. Side note: Do they not have touchable art exhibits near you? In my town we have an outdoor sculpture garden and people can touch them. Sometimes kids even sit or climb on them. I remember those slide projector stories, I really liked those I school. I think I was at the tail end of those though. I never saw any after grade 5. Ah, nostalgia. :)
Funny thing is, we still had the overhead projector during my time in elementary school! I was astonished when I first saw a Smart Board and yet I was only born in '98!
Whoops! I never really thought about that kind of thing before. You tell some really funny stories. I once saw a filmstrip in Kindergarten (2005) about the "signs of danger" and poison prevention. The teacher would stop the tape at each slide and ask "should we drink/eat this" the answer was always "NO!" That's the only time I've ever seen a filmstrip in use.

Hey Tommy, I just stumbled across you somehow a few days ago. I started by watching a few videos about the common questions people ask. I honestly CANNOT get enough of your stories & games, etc. I don't normally actually laugh out loud. with you tho, oh man, I smile so big the whole time & LAUGH- it feels so good!! You crack me the hell up with your observational humor!! I seriously can't get enough of you!! You are such a great human! I'm going through kind of a shitty time & you are absolutely PERFECT!! Tommy, Im sorry to hear you went through that, but from our standpoint, it really was funny as hell... Love you man. One of my favorite people on the planet. Cheers, MIke
its weird when you think about how well put together he looks, nice blue button up shirt, cool hair style you would normally think this guy is put together, thinking he did it himself. for him it was just a vote on what is the style he looks the best in by the people around him.
It just dawned on me that blind people must perceive motion rather differently than sighted people. For example a bird in flight, or a cat's graceful agility. Though I can close my eyes and not see them, the way I think of so many things still have the attached knowledge of them in their moving context. Such vastly different perceptions I can't imagine.
I love you stories tommy, especially since I live in Brookfield CT and only a couple miles from your old highschool and I know all the places you talk about. keep up the great content man!
cool story Tommy. An old work mate told me about the time he and his flatmates played a porno on a projector back in the 70s. They used the curtains as a kind of screen to watch it on. What they didn't realise was that people outside, passersby and neighbours etc, could see it...although the images appeared upside down from the outside haha
Just so you know, if you saw a silent film of the Three Musketeers then it was likely from 1921, not 1934. In early 30s, most films where sound films with rare exception. Another thing, silent films originally where intended to be accompanied by a live organ played or other musician. Later, after the introduction of sound, musical accompaniment would be recorded for silent films being reviewed in theaters or on Video tape, DVD, TV, and so fourth, added in place of the standard soundtrack found on sound films.
Sheesh! I remember those film strips in school. I hated school because there wasn't the technology there is today to help blind or deaf students. My teachers used to ask me to come up and solve equations on the blackboard, then when I would stand up with my white cane, they would apologize and be so embarrassed.
I would love to see a video of you drawing and/or describing different instruments! You've already drawn guitar and so, but there are a lot of different instruments that would make a fun game. :)
Crimson Corsair "Any small channels want to support each other?" "I bet no one will read this but can I get some likes because my hamster died and Internet attention will definitely help"
This movie is on youtube and have like piano-music on, it follows what's going on on the screen, but is a lot to read too. The friend should have read to him all the passages. I actually liked the intro very, very much.
Film strips are functionally like slide shows, yes. They work like movie film, except instead of just continuously running, the film is a foot or so long and advanced manually one frame at a time. Actual proper slides are individual frames of film mounted in a cardboard frame, fed into a cylindrical magazine to be fed one at a time into a projector.
I recently found out about you through Quora and am I ever so glad I did! I've been binging on your videos and I just gotta say that I absolutely love you! You are so positive and complete inspiration.
speaking of those recorded stories... i had a frog and toad together book by Arnold Globell and it came with a 45 record. no point to this, just thought i'd share the memory you sparked. you always spark a good one :)
I can't imagine learning things like science and math without being able to look at diagrams on the overhead projector... must have been hard! Love your videos/stories, Tommy! I'm wondering if your teachers were always accommodating or if they would sometimes kind of 'forget' you were blind, explain something in a visual way that didn't make sense, etc.
Consider a piece of VHS or cassette tape, only more wide, with little squares punched into it on each side to run it on gears which keep it in time. that's how the frames are shown on a silent movie.
What a horrible example those selfish parents set for their child!! Shame on them! I would have bundled up my family and left immediately AND apologized to the child. I can't believe they stayed!!!
Used to be a tour guide at a very steep cave... In the 2 years I worked there I had about 5 "blind" people go on a tour, cain and all. Some alone. Some with people. It's pretty dim in a cave and if you partly blind that you use a cain the I can only imagine what it s like being in a cave that's steep and slick and dark.
I REMEBER THE FILM STRIPS IN SCHOOL!! THE BELL THAT TOLD THE TEACHER TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT SLIDE!! I didnt learn anything much from thoes! It was in biology!!!

berlimett yes but I think thats no big problem

Aldo I mean, you would still need something to cover the waist area. Having no legs doesn't mean you wear nothing to cover your belly down.

Let's face it though, Tommy, we LOVE the stories where you get into trouble ;)
We still use overhead projectors at school... I didn't know it was such an ancient thing! 😂
Amazing video, I love the way you tell stories!!! 😊
Sheesh! I remember those film strips in school. I hated school because there wasn't the technology there is today to help blind or deaf students. My teachers used to ask me to come up and solve equations on the blackboard, then when I would stand up with my white cane, they would apologize and be so embarrassed.
This was a brilliant story!
This is so sad. When I saw the title, I thought he was an adult at that time. But 11 years old? I can't imagine how he felt during this 😥
I would love to see a video of you drawing and/or describing different instruments! You've already drawn guitar and so, but there are a lot of different instruments that would make a fun game. :)
One of my daily youtubers! 😁 Keep it up Tommy!! 👍🏼👌🏼
In class:
2 + 2 = 4
Homework:
2 + 4 + 2 = 8
Exam:
John has 4 apples, his train is 7 minutes early. Calculate the mass of the sun
Krayston go away. your other comments:
"Give mE sUm LieKs itS my birthday"
" sub to me and ill sub to you"
Crimson Corsair "Any small channels want to support each other?"
"I bet no one will read this but can I get some likes because my hamster died and Internet attention will definitely help"
The only comment by kray that was the least bit funny.
People with sight don't like silent movies either
Excited to watch this! 😆
This movie is on youtube and have like piano-music on, it follows what's going on on the screen, but is a lot to read too. The friend should have read to him all the passages. I actually liked the intro very, very much.
"Hey! Tell this people about the movie you saw last weekend"....I almost spit out my coffee.
I love that he laughs at his own jokes.
Dunkirk is a pretty silent movie but I think the sounds in it will get you into the movie still :)
to honor the tittle I watched this without sounds :P
speaking of those recorded stories... i had a frog and toad together book by Arnold Globell and it came with a 45 record. no point to this, just thought i'd share the memory you sparked. you always spark a good one :)
He has such good humor😂
Cool story, i really liked that! :)
hey tommy, I just graduated high school 2014 and teachers were using those projectors till my junior year!
i would love to watch a movie base on your entire life story. it would be very interesting to watch. 😄
Thanks, Tommy. I had a good laugh
0 out of 4 eyes open had me laughing too hard at work.
YOU ARE AWESOME!
Wow, it must have been awful. Even as a sighted person, watching a silent film without music would be utterly boring...
I laughed so hard at this. Great story!
this guy should be a comedian
Film strips were great!
I REMEBER THE FILM STRIPS IN SCHOOL!! THE BELL THAT TOLD THE TEACHER TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT SLIDE!!
I didnt learn anything much from thoes! It was in biology!!!
