#story #injury blindness
Has anyone ever bumped into you and asked rudely if you were blind or something? Did you reply "why yes, I am. Thank you." ?
Kip's Journey he keeps his eyes closed and caries a cane sometimes so I think people get the hint
really? Then why did he say in the video that people have bumped into him? it is NYC... people bump into one another. I think you missed the joke.
Kip's Journey no I think you missed my joke I got yours and Just added some extra banter to it
LOL thank you then. i get your line now with all the sarcasm drippin' off it.
I’m not sure who deserves this... but
You shouldn't feel embarassed, Tommy. You've got a pretty good excuse.
v yea 😁
v The excuse is so good, it's not even a real excuse
Seeing people run into stuff all the time , mostly cell phones
Reading "do not touch" in braille would be pretty scary, woudn't it? :D
Hot surface.
Lmao!! That's a good one
😂😂😂
It would be like reading a sign that said " do not read" 😆
@@wampachomp5120 "do not open your eyes. Mass UV radiation"
I find it to be intriguing that he feels embarrassment even though he can't see anyone's reactions.
I get your drift, but it goes beyond people pointing and smiling
I've embarrassed myself when no one was around... it's an odd feeling. lol It's just an emotion, and doesn't require vision
@ yeah that's a reasonable response to something being interesting.
And for the record, I feel almost no human embarrassment in normal situations, including car accidents and unfortunate losses of bodily functions.
Why are you being so aggressive for no reason?
he could have heard kids laugh at him when he made mistakes as a kid, that will make you embarrassed too. People can make you feel embarrassed by the sounds they make, and words they say, as well as by pointing or staring. In fact I would consider being laughed at to be more of a trope of embarrassment than any visual cue.
Isnt also interesting when someone is alone and does something stupid they feel embarrassment even though noone was near
Your singing at the end was awesome. xD
Indeed, fellow smiley.
Fizzy Note it was pretty funny.
I would watch an entire video of him doing that.
Lola Bradford me too!! he's very funny doing it but he is quite good
Do do do dooodoot! *sorry* bahahaha
I love that you make the same faces when you sing those songs as anyone else imitating those voices would; I always assumed people just imitate faces while they imitate voices, but apparently the faces just go with the voices.
Savant that's very cool, thanks. :-)
You're so cheerful about this stuff! Just, "Oh yeah, it was kinda funny / People freaking out / I almost died." What?
IMPE: when it happens often enough, it does become kinda grimly funny.
@@saizai What does “IMPE” mean? _🤔_
@@immortalsun In My Personal Experience. (Just "IME" is more common.)
He never said he almost died even once. Where'd you get that.
@@knt5429 him falling under the train
I see perfectly well, and have fallen and injured myself 4 times in the last 3 weeks. Vision is overrated. x)
zmashd it goes both ways. It's overrated and taken for granted.
i walk into poles a lot and i'm sighted
@@Pingaheimer
yay mr. youtube psychologist pls start diagnosing me now!!! free therapy. you're great
I don’t think he will see this
I do the same thing but I have an excuse when I'm not wearing my glasses. I'm extremely near sighted and have some depth perception issues(which I literally just found out was there my whole life) so I'm not fully sighted all the time
I've... actually... walked head first into a light pole.. walking. With sight.
I share your pain.

Pink Dawg of Doom thank you so much
Pink Dawg of Doom thank fuck, i've been searching for ages
10/10 useful information
Pink Dawg of Doom thanks, I hate it when I forget!
Bless your little heart, Tommy. For me, this was uncomfortable to watch, especially the head injuries you mentioned. Falling down the stairs is scary for a sighted person, so I can only imagine how it was for you. Glad you're okay!
He's a grown man.
at least if it gets really cold he can cover his entire face
Whenever I am feeling down, Tommy's positive attitude always cheers me up. Keep on rockin' sir.
More longer videos please, I'd love to see more 10 minute videos instead of 5 minute videos.
Has anyone noticed that he blinks with his eyes closed?
Yep it's a reflex, try keeping your eyes closed when you aren't going to sleep
I do it either! I don't know how it works, it just happen
Have you seen his eyes he blind
Human habit.
Tommy, I have to say you are a great story teller. It's like when someone is telling a story, and at a really important part they close their eyes to be right back in that moment.
Tommy are you immortal?
Grandmaster Kush yes

You said you have burned yourself when you cook. Do you cook often yourself? Could you do an episode where you make your speciality? I love cooking shows and it would be really interesting to know how it works on your perspective.
Raatomieli he made chicken strips and fries before in his house and he also made a pizza at a pizza place
Raatomieli look up how blind people cook tommy Edison
Raatomieli I meant to say he made burgers and fries not chicken
oh, thanks for the info!
Raatomieli i second this
I wonder if he's ever gone on a blind date.
Every date would be a blind date for him, technically.
Mephostopheles You don't say
omg, that's a funny & bad pun
Dragger I do, actually. Thanks for noticing.
james wasda Come on man.
i just love his out-non-look on life
New T-shirts, hoodies, and hats with a NEW DESIGN are now available! Thanks for supporting the show.

The Tommy Edison Experience i have 3 friend who are blind, i know the Braille alphabet and i know how to use a brailler
Have you ever had a girlfriend tommy?
Trust me, Tommy, it's way more embarrassing when you're sighted and you walk straight into a pole.
Done it. More than once.
Tommy, I want to thank you for sharing your life experiences. First of all, your sense of humor is fantastic, I can tell you're just a pleasant guy to be around. Second, I really appreciate your frankness and openness about what it's like to be blind. I think that understanding one another and being not only able but willing to communicate about everything is hugely important to becoming one big, happy, peaceful species. Third, the mechanics of your life just fascinate me. I'm trying to wrap my head around how you parse your surroundings and memories, how your spatial awareness works, since you don't "envision" or form pictures or maps. Trying to "see" the world in a new way is a valuable exercise, and I thank you for helping me do it.
P.S. I think anyone might have done the misstep on the stairs, especially if there was a stone loose. A couple years ago I ran up the porch steps to my parents' house, I missed a step so I didn't ascend as far as I should have, and the foot coming forward didn't clear the last step and I kicked the bricks. My foot must have been moving at approximately Mach 1.8, so naturally I broke three phalanges in two toes. Made it to 27 years old without breaking any bones. I don't recommend it but you'll survive.
I envy your editing skills! Good job. And also great punch lines one after another. You have a great sense of humor
Crazy Nate hi
I would love to be your friend Tommy! Your positivity is contagious.
Tommy, my worst experience with ice ironically happened when I was still fully cited. I was about nine years old walking to school with my mom in the winter. We went to cross the street, but neither one of us realized that the street was completely iced over. As we were crossing, the both of us slipped and landed right on our butts. The street happens to be a downward slope as well, so we slid down the street. Funny thing is, by the time we were done sliding down the street we had almost reached my school, LOL
boy tommy is just so sweet
Your singing totally brightened up my day!
I love his sense of humor. It makes me smile and makes my day!
I don't think limping is something you learn. The act of trying to walk without putting weight on your foot is what limping is.
Tommy always makes me smile!
Damn Tommy I could listen to you for hours.
Tommy is one of the best content providers on youtube.

Man, I just love this guy.
These sound rather familiar, though I've not had nearly that many. I remember once being really dizzy and in a rush, and somehow I managed to miss a whole damn tree with my cane. It knocked me on my ass, cut my face a bit, forehead was swollen for a while. Kinda embarrassing to miss something that big, but dizziness & blindness really don't mix well..
Neither does temporarily losing hearing. I had my ears obstructed a couple times, and damn it's disorienting to not be able to hear my cane tip. I know you can learn to do that - deaf-blind people do all the time - but not a skill I have. :-/
I know im late but dam....watch out for those trees man. Get it. 😂
Being visually impaired myself, I can relate to the embarrasment of someone seeing you get hurt feeling worse than the injury itself.
Ouch
Not only are you a RUclips star, but you could easily be a rock star. Keep on singin', man. I love your channel.
I really like this format
Great video Tommy. It's not "weird" to see someone with a cane bang into something, the first thing I think most people would think is "are they okay? Poor fella, that must have hurt"
I liked the singing at the end. lol
This guy makes me happy every day!
Question : How do you deal with awkward handshakes? Like someone tries to stretch their hand to handshake with you and you obviously can't see the hand and awkwardness occurs. Or you misplace your hand to handshake and can't find your target. How can you handshake? How can we handshake with a blind person? (I love your videos. Cheers from Turkey)
I think a good strategy would be to say, "Hey, nice to meet you, can I shake your hand?" and then shake their hand when they offer it.
Fatih He has talked about it before. When he meets someone he automatically puts his hand out and they grab his.
Easy: blind person puts out their hand, sighted person is the one to find it and clasp. It's a small delay but no big deal.
You should watch his video with Molly (another blind youtuber). He extended his hand to Molly and said "I'm extending my hand to you" but she couldn't see it. Both of them were trying to handshake and they actually did it. It was cute.
Sai What if he meets a blind person?
he's so positive i love him
it's so interesting that Tommy hoped no one "saw" him hit the pole l. Even blind people care about their appearance, or how others perceive them.
You're a real inspiration Tommy.
Sighted people run into poles too! RUclips is full of videos of people doing that! I ran into my kitchen cabinet. Just because we are looking at something else instead of where we are going!!! Tommy, then people will say-" Are you blind? " Ha-ha-ha!!
You are awesome beyond words and ypu have the greatest smile and sense of humor!!! Thank you for taking time to make these videos. You have made me see soooo much more that sight could never do on its own!!!❤💚💜💙💛👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Tommy seems so nice. I realy wish I had a friend like him!
Tommy can you give us a house tour?
Be careful out there Tommy, I love our show man
Hehe singing Tommy is the best :3
More singing please Tommy. That was the best.

CyanGaming | ᴹᶦᶰᵉᶜʳᵃᶠᵗ ⁻ ᴳᵃᵐᵉᴾᶫᵃʸ why thank you, you have a great day as well. :-)
Also, that singing at the end. Such a dad move. x)
have you ever used conditioner before shampoo?
Got to love this dude
Tommy: “sometimes I bang my knee of the coffee table”
Me: don’t worry, I can see and I still whack my knee off it
I love tommy he's just funniest and most down earth guy out there
Did you get bullied at school for being blind?
That'd be pretty cruel if somebody bullied him cause he was blind! :(
He was bullied but apparently not to the point of being heavily damaged.
That deck of Braille playing cars gave me a question: do you enjoy playing games? What about board games, so you play those?
Does someone read Tommy his comments? It'd be sad if he never got to hear all this good feedback
Tommy Barnard his computer reads comments to him
Dude! Did you go to the hospital after any of the times you hurt yourself? There could be some internal damage!
Netscape128™ Comment of the year
As a VI person, you get so used to hurting yourself, that you sorta just shrug everything off, even if there could be internal damage. It's only when something sticks around for a few days or gets bad like the story about his foot when we're like, "Oh... maybe I should get this checked out. You know, just in case. It's probably not that bad."
Netscape128™ , lol epic name
Robert Aslin that doesn’t make sense he’s already blind
What about insects? Are you afraid of any? Since it's the look of some of them that scare me, is it the sound for you? Like maybe bees scare you more than spiders? If so, how did it start? So many questions. Tell me! I must know!
Tommy your videos always make me happy. I can't imagine life without my eyes but it's all you know and you have such a good attitude about being blind. Keep up the awesome videos!
Honestly you should never EVER feel embarrassed.. if it happens to people who could've seen it coming (pun not intended) they should feel embarrassed! I walked into a glassdoor once man that hurts pretty bad! Luckily it was already pretty dark and the store was closed xD
watching your videos always gives me so much joy.
I've seen sighted people walk into poles when they're not paying attention. At least you have an excuse, Tommy! 😁
Just now I realized that I am looking into his mouth instead of his eyes now that I've watched a couple videos. I really like how much expression comes through his lips. I actually do feel like I'm having the same connection as I do looking eye to eye in a conversation.
You guys should make a reaction video of Tommy riding in a Nissan GTR or a Tesla and try out the launch control. Could make a video.
I hope you can get this read to you, but I hope you know your attitude is absolutely spectacular. You're absolutely amazing and have overcome some amazing obstacles. A person who can laugh off things others could not. I love watch your videos, to see your perspective on the world as well as to get a greater understanding of your struggles as well as others whole struggle with you. Keep your spirits high as you do, you are a extraordinary individual!
Damn, I love all these little self-ironic jokes ;D
I am 38 yrs old with 20/20 vision. I am impressed that you have not hit ur head and get to bleed. I have done that hundreds of times...
This click bait made me so worried.
Elizbeth Lenchen hows it clickbait?
CucumberLord cause he almost died?!?!?!?!?! I always assume the worst.
Its not a clickbait lol.
Jaska Jokunen but the pow made me wonder if a car hit him and he was in the hospital or something, it's clickbait goddammit!
Elizbeth Lenchen Pow Doesnt mean a car hit You.
When you cry, do teardrops come down from your eyes?
I was born blind in my left eye. When I was young I thought blind people were born with the ability to read braille. So I figured I must be able to HALF read braille. I was very wrong...
I love you Tommy, you're just awesome.
How long can you manage without blinking?
cyancoyote if you take a closer look you can see he actually blinks
This was a genuine question :)
his eyes are always closed. because that's easy for him , talked about it in one of his video
But you can still "blink" when your eyelids are closed
Hahaha! Tommy singing at the end is the best.
how do you cook?
sacredbanana there is a video on the channel where I show how I cook. Have a look. :-)
The Tommy Edison Experience thanks il check it out
The real question is, how do you reply to these comments?
The way he replies is ether his Best Friend does it for him (I forgot the guys name) or He scrolls thru the Comments on his Computer which is on Narrator Mode, Also considering talk and text ways exist in which he doesn't even have to type on a keyboard in order to make a comment.
I just adore you, Tommy!
It's amazing to imagine life of so different person, great video!
Where do you work?
FierceViper I worked in radio for a long time in Connecticut. :-)
As a sighted person falling down the gap between the train and the platform is my BIGGEST fear. Tommy just casually pulls himself back up 😁 I Adore you!
Do you have any tattoos?
If not... Would you get one?
Nick Ross no and no. :-)
Not sure if I'd get one either if I had to go through the pain of stabbing my skin repeatedly for something I can't even see lol...
Why would he?
Mephostopheles Same reason why he cares about what he wears. He, like everyone else has tge freedom to express themselves.
Nick Ross Yeah, but clothes are a necessity. If you go out naked, you'll get arrested for indecent exposure. So, if you have to wear clothes, may as well look nice to others if not to yourself. No one's gonna be pissed at you for not having a tattoo, and Tommy himself would have no reason to care (because he can't see the tattoo anyway). So, there's really no good reason to do it.
i love this guy so much.
How do you do your shopping? Say you're in a hurry and can't order online
In my opinion, you are a great inspiration for the all of us!
Best wishes

How in the world did he reply if he is blind
Blaise Evans Someone reads the comments for him or he has a voice recorder that he uses for the comments.
Love ya Tommy. Be careful out there!
