95k+ on my 02 xlc , needs some love also , just started not to ride it as much lately expired ins,and reg .harley davidson should have never stopped making the traditional Sportster. Great bikes keep them on the road !
Except for the "metric numbers" for weight, fuel capacity, etc. I enjoyed this video-retrospective on the Sportster. My favorite has always been the 1978 XLCR 1000. The XR1200 is a close second and I'd gladly take either one!
Nice video cataloging the changes over the years. Only thing I wished for was a final shot that superimposes the latest model over the first XLCH to see how little the thing has really changed between then and now. Sportster is an amazing motorcycle, even if H-D keeps trying to morph it into something it's not (i.e. a cruiser or poor man's Super Glide).
The Iron 883 is the sexyist, meanest looking Harley Davidson. Looks like a Harley should. So so sad that this range has ended. Stupid move, like cutting off your arms so you'll be lighter there for I'll move faster! Won't I!?
Great video, interesting to see the changes over the years. Or rather, the lack thereof. Jesus man, I'm a cruiser driver myself. I appreciate the classic look, upright ergonomics, carrying capacity and long range comfort they offer over the sporting variety. Being said, there are no excuses (aside from appeasing the ever dwindling braindead marketplace) for the archaic and unnecessarily underpowered engines.
Almost the perfect bike. Approaching 90,000 miles. Needs some love but still reliable.
Just wack 50 kilos off the weight & the Sportster would be the perfect retro bike. My favourites are the XLCR, the XLXR1000, the XLX & the XR1200

**finishes the video with nothing but praise in my head for the Sportster**
**"Why Harley Davidson is ABSOLUTELY BLOWING IT"**
Such a unique bike! Proud to have one!
Both of my XLCHs were pre-1971 kick-only sporty machines. Had a ton of fun on both back in the early '70s.

Best looking bike ever built.
...next to the Triumph X-75 Hurricane!
I have two Sportsters, I love them. I don't need the giant baggers.
The picture of the 1973 Iron Head is exactly the same as the one I bought new from Detroit H-D. Thanks for posting.
The bike shown as a 1996 XL1200 is a 2003 anniversay edition, but other than that this is a pretty cool video!

That's where your wrong kiddo...they morphed it into a Japanese street racer and tacked on an extra 4k....R.I.P xl sportser
Skipped a few years
Come on… you forgot the Seventy Two
HD Sportster = Brilliant Ad
Im about to get a 1972 sportster iron head, it’s going to be a complete rebuild. Im so pumped.
comprehensive, thank you
As always a great and interesting video. Also a nice new style. Keep it on ♥️
I ride an original 1974 XLH with 12K miles on it.
12,000 on a 50-year old XLH? Ummm, my phone's calculator calls that 240 miles/year. You must live farther North than I do!
I have had my Sportster for 25 years and four hundred thousand miles on her.all original engine.
YEOW !!
@@blusnuby2 Truth!

I own a stone stock "except for paint, seat, and air cleaner which I have the originals" 1973 XLH

Lost track of the miles on my 61 Xlch best bike I've owned
Faster than dyna handles better and never got the respect it deserved 27 grand national championships in racing gets called slow lol
The 1996 shown is actually the 2003 100 year anniversary
Please do something on the Isle of Man TT, And how it has evolved in the past 100 years. I think people would really like that.

So innovation stoped after 2005 ?
You forgot the L1984-1985 changes compared to the 1983-e1984 and 1986 -1990
rubber mount started in 2004 not 2005
Rest in peace.
This video isn't completely accurate, at least for the C.C.s of the earlier models.
The roads of Iowa? Really?

Good video, but music soundtrack is about 20 to 30% too loud, and is drowning out the narration a bit.
Nah, I get you but he's going for a feeling. The narration is almost like you're overhearing conversations from yesteryears at a loud bar .
Life's too short ta drive anything else!
You are lost sportster 1200s, 1998 - 2003
Wish they hadn't started blacking them out
No mention of the magneto ignition on the early XLCHs? you should be ashamed.
Kenny Roberts never raced a Harley.
