Well done ! Huge accomplishment. I also love books. I’m happy to say that over time, I’ve reduced my collection by … it’s gotta be 50%. But I could do more !! I love how you love to learn. I can relate . Happy Heavenly Father’s Day to day to your Dad ! And to mine !

I love this video!❤ What a fun challenge to do to curate a book collection. I have 2 full bookshelves in my bedroom away from the littles, and we have been reading the stories and culling them if we didn't enjoy the book. We need to get back to that. Over the holidays we just stopped. I adore books and we also homeschool, so this one is hard to do❤

Great idea and congratulations on homeschooling. I homeschooled my children for a time and loved it. It's not an easy job, but so rewarding.

    I was thinking about you
How are you? Books were easy for me 😅 cannot declutter anything else but books were a breeze 🙏
So glad you’re back!! Vada goes to the library - ours is open Wednesday and Saturday ❤

I'm so glad books were easy for you. Isn't it funny what is hard for some and easy for others? It seems like the things most tied to our identity are the hardest to declutter. I am glad to be back. I admit I have struggled the last couple of months, figuring out what I have to offer, but encouragement like yours helps so very much.

That's a great challenge to decide to get rid of more and more books every single day!

It was a challenge, but it really helped me see when I had gone far enough. It was quite the eye opening experience. Thanks for watching.

Those who don’t want to keep and take care of something themselves, shouldn’t who take issue with you not holding on the same something…. books or whatever it may be.

I totally agree. I ended up with the family place and never could clean out the old house and barns becuase my siblings wanted the things. I finally realized if they wanted the things, the should come get them. I set a date six months in the future, let them know, and sent email reminders every couple weeks or so. Time came and they never took a thing. Haven't heard a peep out of them about it either.😂

I searched “book decluttering” videos, and yours popped up. I was actually thinking of decluttering the same way you did: day 1-1, day 2-2…, but I’m not sure I can part with them.
I was a teacher, too, and those were not as difficult. But I have 2000+ on my shelves, and I want to read them all. I also don’t think I physically have that much time. Any criteria you used to decide what to keep and what to let go?

I'm so glad you found this video and thank you for your comments. One of the criteria I used was to let go of many of the books that didn't have sentimental value and I knew they were at our local library. (I looked them up on our library website.) I also kept a list of the books I donated to remind myself of what I wanted to read. It felt good to give several books to the library for them to store instead of me.

    What about Bibles?

THAT is a very difficult one. I kept the ones that we use or that are particularly special to us. The heirloom ones I used for display. Others I sent to goodwill.

These days you don't even have to go to a library - everything's available as e-books right into your computer. As for keeping books that your loved ones read, I don't understand how someone who loved you would want you to have to manage books you don't even read after they're gone - doesn't seem like love to me - especially when someone could enjoy them. Most libraries have a "friends of the library" group that gladly takes in donations and then sells them, with the monies used to buy new books for their patrons.

I love your suggestions and I agree that loved ones really probably do care much more about our mental health than that we retain their books. I know I have felt so much better after letting go of so much. Thank you for commenting.
