Always glad to see you back in action. It’s funny that we don’t have a good term for the extra indy/alternative/art comics/modern underground comics. Ive often wondered if Corben's art is all a matter of context…discovering him in the 70s was such a radical experience, but in the 2000s and beyond, much less so. For me it’s still a vivid sensation of shock and awe comic across his work. Love Mort Cinder but never finished it…good reminder to dig that back up. The problem with things that are best read in small doses…
I love having a lot of book options like you. I'm also going the the first 50 gradually. I have a couple others I do that with. The original fantastic four, original TMNT, and the crepax series. I've been going through scott pilgrim for the first time as well. Thanks for the great vid.
Good day, Chris. Alan Moore's been on my mind and so I did a live stream last weekend with Howlermouse on his channel discussing his early works like V for Vendetta, Miracle Man, Swamp Thing, and Watchmen. It was a wonderful discussion with Tim since he knows more about Moore and Watchmen than anyone I know. I didn't know you didn't like comic strips. That's a surprise. Corben enchanted me as a kid when I discovered him in Heavy Metal Magazine around the time the film came out. I saw it on HBO. I'm still amazed by how he managed to draw and color like he did. Hector German Oesterheld, among my favorite Argeninte writers. Mort Cinder and El Eternauta, brilliant works. I couldn't put down Monsters when I read it. Did it over two nights. Remains one of the saddest graphic novels I've ever read. I think a life time reading Love & Rockets is a good plan:) Great to see you again. No novels?
@@GoreVidalComicbooks Monster was good often times when I forget I'm reading a big graphic novel it's because I'm a wander and a traveler when I read. I probably read only about 50% in my home. So it's easy to put down and forget the larger sized stuff.
That's too deep for me. It is solid though, I'm hoping to get in a few more listens. Anytime Kendrick releases something it feels like there's all these secret codes built in.
Chris... you don´t like comic strips so... you don´t like Calvin and Hobbes? Also... you will probably read that Mort Cinder a couple of times just cuz of the art
@evolscimoc2888 I've talked with some people that didn't like Monsters. I guess I figured it out eventually. I'm already a big Barry Windsor Smith fan so I'm predisposed to liking something about it.
Look like you have a huge year ahead of you. Looks like it’s time to record yourself while you read. 👍👍
@The_Comic_Chef oh yeah that'll come back eventually lol

@@sleepyreader666 I'm sure corben was a wild look in the 70s/80s. The good news is I always come around to him once I start reading him.

@NeuroSquire a couple crepax and toppi books barely didn't make the cut for this video.
Time to make a lot of videos, Chrisssssss!!!
