I get my Mark Hoppus tone using a PJ bass with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups (just the P pickup is used), run through an Ampeg PF350 amp head with a Ampeg 210HE Cab. I also throw a Behringer BOD400 pedal in, with the blend almost 100% clean, but just a bit of dirt in there
Great video! I find your content so helpful as an upcoming producer for my bands music! Thanks so much ♥️
No problem, happy to help!
Great video! Thanks so much :)
Glad it was helpful!
This what i waiting for so long
I use P bass with Ampeg SVT-CL preamp clone (I built it myself in a pedal format) and with power amp section of the Fender Bassman on recordings. Nice combination of gear.
Awesome vid, in my opinion the best way to get his tone is a a set of fresh strings on a pbass, it is so important to emulate his sound and saves a lot of time and effort mixing wise 👌🏾
Yes
Cool video! thnx! We nedd same video adout guitar tone of blink 182!
great video man! there are some of my favorite bass tones of all time - especially the stingray tone. i was wondering though, where did you get the stems or at least the bass stem for the party song? i have a few other blink songs but i can’t find that one
Thanks! You can usually just google them, or search on RUclips. It's mainly just the singles that have the stems available, but there's a few of the album tracks too that are floating about - like Party Song & Aliens Exist. Hope that helps!
cool
Then you hire And Justice For All' s producer and screw everything up lol
I think that was more on the band tbh
@@nathanielcava4128 yeah, Jim and Lars trolled Jason real bad
Lol
That was all Lars being a petty bitch
Do you have one of these videos for Billie Joe Armstrong? I wonder how you get the tone for Kerplunk and beyond.
This is the closest thing I've got to that atm - ruclips.net/video/EQzGoeie4U8/видео.html
A lot of BJA's tone comes from stacking different amps together, so the tracking is a lot more important than the actual amp sound itself - if you're going for Green Day's '04 era sound.
I might do some Green Day tone related videos in the future though!
@@SugarpillProd I would love a Mike Dirnt tone video, because most of the videos I've found online do horrible jobs of it. They get close with the AI sound, but completely gloss over the Dookie, Insomniac, and Kerplunk tones that helped shape the sound of those albums
The most unique bass tone in punk records that I can think of is Fat Mike's sound in 'So long and thanks for all the shoes' album. For a simple way to get a decent punk bass sound I would go with a P-Bass, fresh roundwire strings and a Sansamp BDDI. Sure, then you can refine it with the low cut and the rest of EQ and the compression. Nice video once again, cheers
One of my absolute favorite bass tones. I think that was on the Dan Electro bass too.
Love that album and love that tone. One thing I will say is that there's not a lot of low end in it. Tons of top end and bite. I agree that it was probably the Danelectro. I imagine those lipstick pickups help with the bright tone.
I thought he was still playing the American deluxe precision bass from the late 90’s on that record? The one with the big fender humbucker at the bridge.
ngl for me it's the matt freeman early rancid tone. that road worn P Bass he used sounded sooo sweet yet dirty
Tbf II wouldn't really call Rancid a pop punk band, haha.
Oh, was that the sim racing guy for a second?
Who?
Not gonna lie, that unplugged rendition of The Cure sounded really good. Mark has a great voice for singing Cure songs, I'm really impressed
what song is it?
@@cohenvansickle390boys don’t cry. But they also did a cover of letter for Elise in 04 that remains one of my favorite live performances ever
@@peterw2880 thanks always interested in that song but never knew what it was lmao
@@cohenvansickle390 Boys Don't Cry from their first album Three Imaginary Boys
@@cohenvansickle390 no prob! I also just remembered they did a version of this with Tom back in 03/04 too. You can find the audio on RUclips
I'm stupid sorry, but I don't understand where you apply Trackspacer? to the master fader or isolated to the bass channel ?
You'd place it on the track that you want to apply the effect to (so in this case, it's on the bass track). From there, it's sidechained to the kick, meaning that everytime it's played, Trackspacer will kick in. Hope that helps!
@@SugarpillProd Thanks you
song in 1:06 dude?
i am a dubstep producer and have been trying to get into metal and punk production because its what i grew up listening to, and i just toss a fuckton of OTT on everything lol 😂
Yeah I know you guys love your OTT 😂
@@SugarpillProd ott compression works wonders though, i slapped it on bass and it sounds gritty and dirty asf
Joey sturgis approves of this message
@@SimonAudiosuite lmao, he's a legend. Such a good producer
What are you playing at 1:16?
Errr Simple Plan's "Welcome To My Life" - I think.
Anybody else find the TSE BOD wont open correctly after downloading? I've several times and never had this problem with any other plug-in.
Have you tried installing a different file format? Sometimes I'll have an issue with a VST2, but the VST3 will work fine.
@@SugarpillProd Doesn't seem to do any good. Thanks tho.
If you can manage to save 75 dollars a week, you could have his whole rig in less than a year
Don't be afraid to use a jazz bass (y'all are sleeping lol) or a Rick in punk!
Scott Pilgrim style
@@AlexvonBass I'm thinking more Matt Freeman with that tone everyone thinks is a P bass on the first record. It's very Jazz. Because it is a jazz.
@@WilDBeestMF first rancid album 1993 was record with an epiphone precision bass it is playing in the video clip hyena
@@cacadordorio Video clip video shmip when it comes to recordings, man. He could be playing a strung dildo with no relevance, y'know. It's a jazz bass on a huge number of those tracks. Just use your ears.
What track on 0:48?
I think it's just a sample. Not a particular song.
00:08 name song?
Anthem Pt.2 👍
Boys don't cry
You use reaper too?!
Yep!
i’ve never understood bass terminology, just standard tuning and plug it into an amp and play. however, i can tell you that the musicman sounds way more nicer than the fender.
I like both tbh. If I had to pick, I'd say the Take Off bass (which was a P-bass I believe) is Mark's best sound. Both both work very well.
YOOOO I have tse bod !!
It's a great plugin!
So a good punk bass tone is a shit bass tone. Maybe for more modern punk. Got it.
To honest it’s a really crap bass tone
What track on 0:12?
Boys don't cry
