I would take the big excavator in there and make a road. then replant and let everything overgrow so then you got a pre fab game trail. Woods are no different than the shop, since everything is jacked up anyways you get to custom design it

As far as the shop comming down and the small things stayed in place is like this. Your shop was tall and flat sided. Catching all the wind like a sail. I drove flatbed semi. I never had as much problems in a wind storm as a big box van semi. So your shop caught the wind and blew down and the chair and Brooklyns toys were less weight but were dang near flat on the ground not Catching the wind. This is only my opinion. I could be totally wrong.

@FLAIR The small forest is not destroyed for deer hunting. It has been made even better. The branch and leaf canopy is gone but it brings huge benefits. More sun to invigorate growth of small saplings and other good feed for the deer. The new absence of excess tree branches gives you many more new shooting lanes. With tragedy, you find triumph. There is always a silver lining. Clean it up and encourage the new growth and you're likely to bring in a nice 12+ buck in November. Good luck and keep up the good work.

A damaged woods is a good Morel hunting grounds. Most mycelium from morels attach to mainly any tree using it as a symbiotic relationship getting nutrients from the tree. Reason why you typically find them on specific trees is because they are the trees we see dying and disappearing in our forest the most in our generation. Once a tree is injured it cuts off nutrients to the mycelium and the mycelium produces fruits (morels) to spawn and release seeds (spores)to another tree nearby. Thats how they survive.

  • @WeldingYeti
    @WeldingYeti 5 месяцев назад +78

Hey @Flair I just wanna say, I'm proud of you for being one of the first people to farm morels inside a trailer and a shop at the same time. 😂

  • @Something-Somes
    @Something-Somes 5 месяцев назад +5

@FLAIR. As someone that has done landscaping...the damaged trees are not bad to leave unless they are dangerous. Some of them may not look great but they can still provide cover and nutrients for wildlife. Like others have stated...I suggest cleaning it up the best you can. Once you have it cleaned up you can make trails easier and plan out some areas. After planning what you want to do...I would bring in some large saplings. Some tree suggestions for you: Maple (purely because they grow fast, Oak (good for ecological succession), Hickory (also good for ecological succession), Ash trees are great for ecological succession, Fruit trees like Persimmon/Plum/Pear/Apple are great for attracting wildlife (Persimmon is great for hunting) and lastly Nut trees like Walnut and Pecan are good for wildlife too.
Oaks and Pine trees are the most common tree you find morel growth around but Ash are great for mycelium. Elms are known to be easy to catch tree diseases which is why they are good for mycelium but if it gets sick it could become an issue for other trees. So be warned on those.
I would not worry about forest restoration right now because you want to plant new trees right before the fall comes. I would focus on clean up and build your trails and plan your layouts before the time comes to plant. If you do decide to plant...make sure you remove heavy vegetation like vines, thick bushes and anything that may take nutrients from the tree zone ( The tree zone is the diameter of the tree when mature).
I had posted a comment on one of Brad's videos about ordering full grown trees online...its possible but you should shop and find places that are local if you can.
Good luck man...thoughts and prayers with everyone effected by these twisters.

Your bobcat with the brush cutter, that grappling claw will help clear a trail. Set up a come- a- long winch deep into the forest so you can extract branches and full trees in one go on a steel cable. It is the easiest way to navigate it through a woods without having to setup pathways.
Another good idea is to find a local person that sells firewood. They will likely come and take away for free since they will make money off the wood. Otherwise you can always pitch in a few bucks for fuel they will gladly come out and clean up the woods.

    • @aliasfred

"Snatch" blocks really help in skidding trees out of the woods. Can handle heavier weights than a come-a-long.

Looking after the clean up would be easier so you're not detecting trash. But you could possibly have a ring, necklace, watch, or something good that landed on your property. And if you find something, can you find the owner would make a great video

Even just the mini excavator has saved you an insane amount of work with clearing the track to the pond. Clearing the woods out will boil down to chainsaws, boots and gloves and a lot of swearing. You'll be finding stuff you missed for years.
It's good to see how well Brooklyns' Beach stood up to the run off.
Nature is not to be underestimated in her fury and power. They're only matched by the randomness of her works. I've been through some pretty serious floods and bushfires where I live (had to take refuge in my pond with my dogs at one point in a firestorm) and seen some pretty good storms, but I don't envy you having gone through a tornado like that.
Keep plugging away at it, mate.

To clean the woods, I think i would try to clear out as much debris as you can get to, and when you're done try to get some sapling trees and try to replant as much as you can.
I wouldn't clear out all the downed limbs at all but try to get some paths through. Some of the downed brush will still provide some shelter for the wildlife

What's the point of the cameras if when the power shuts off they just stop working. They need to atleast still record even if u can't watch the cameras while the power is off it still being able to record is important. What if someone just came on ur property cut the power n then boom no cameras recording so no proof of anything they did. Yeah nah u deff need better camera systems cuz if u had those in the first place we could of seen all that took place n the trailer missile lol

Had to go through a similar cleanup after a wildfire. Just take a mid sized excavator through there and pile debris and broken limbs as close to the road as possible. You can call in a trash trailer (if they accept mixed debris), or just dig a deep pit and burry everything. Leave the trees standing, they will grow back in a couple years. You can also supplement the lost trees by planting some acorn trees, and various fruits (like mulberry and apricot) to help bring the deer back in and provide a bit of cover. Just make sure you put wire around the trunk so nothing gets to the bark.
Deciduous trees like poplar will also grow extremely fast and help fill in the mature trees that don't recover.

    Two ideas
    1. Bring back beefcake construction for clean up duties.
    2. Tornado decoy duck/goose hunt for the fall

Might have to weigh down fresh root balls so they don’t float off. But I think natural structure is probably the best. If you have it use it! Love the videos!

Hey Flair! I met someone who works with one of the promotion companies you use and told her an idea! I said you should get an ice cream truck and make it into a jerky truck! Every time someone walks up you gotta go SHEEEEWWWW welcome to beefcake jerky what can I get you! You could get someone to drive it around the country to different events and promote that jerky!! Maby you will hear a word but I thought that would make a great video and promote the brand in general. Anyways SHEEEW have a nice day. Love the vids

You need to get a tuller handler to get to the higher tree tops to clear those.

Add as many root balls as you want. Once the wood soaks up enough water as long as it stays under the water it should stay like that for years.

for the woods you should honestly just look threw it and look for anything salvageable and then chop it all down and take the excavator and call down D again and pick it all up and then you’ll get a whole bunch of new open land to build.

Any damage at the ranch or the lease? You may be able to talk to your insurance company about lost timber value. I don't know if this is a thing anymore, but I know at one time, I think through the forestry department, they would pay you to replant acreage of trees. They would even provide the seedlings.

I would suggest that you watch some "LIVE" tornado videos. Take note which way it is spinning, (It may help you locate where the bulk of your "material" possessions ended up). Also, watch all the debris (debree) spinning around it, from the ground, up to "infinity" all at minimum speeds of 100 plus mph. Then as the 'nado weakens, where your "stuff" fell out of the vortex. Also, How long was the tornado ON the ground, (ie) how many miles? How wide was it when it rearranged your landscape? Just be blessed that no one in your family was hurt. Material stuff can be replaced.

The feeder is salvageable. Take the electronics out and stick them in rice or those beeds in the silicon packets and it will probably be good to go. Unless things look fried. Even then its cheaper to replace the board and screen than to replace the whole thing.

I feel like the dam side of the pond needs some structure. Like you said most of it is together by the Beach/boat ramp

The way id clean up the woods is take a quad or SxS something with a small footprint essentially that has a winch out and use a sawzall to cut the pieces down then wrap the junk with a strap in a choker hook the winch to it drag it out for bigger stuff like the dux trailer i would wrap a chain around it where ever you can then hook it to the ranger and yank it out until it can be grabbed by the mini, just my thoughts

Tornados are very different beasts‼️ When I was a little kid, we had a small one go through my backyard and down the street. It opened one gate the wrong way, broke the spring on our backdoor screen, opened the other gate correctly, and deposited my Mom's rugs (that were on the clothes line drying) all over our neighborhood. One was 4 blocks away. And a couple were never found. It, also, took a small camper and turned it up-side-down, without damaging it. So, YES‼️ Tornados do some really crazy stuff‼️

When you’re cutting a log that is raised from one side cut from the top, when it’s raised from both sides cut from the bottom, this will lower the chance of you chain getting pinched
