People don't even realise how low she's singing until they check because for her it's so natural and easy to sing and phrase in the lower third or upper second octaves
Exactly. People say shit about the way she talks and sings but she knows how to use it.
This is an authentic contralto voice. It's the lowest alto range & the highest tenors. Some people even consider a women's deep octaves a type of falsetto. Not sure I'd go that far, but here she pretty much sings from the bottom to the top of the contralto vocal spectrum. She also sings with a dropped soft palate, which accounts for the slightly nasal tone. Stevie Nicks has a similar construct to her singing, but Miley has more range & power.

Everyone brings their A game to this cover. Miley transforms into the rock butterfly she was always destined to be. Epic performances on drums and guitar and that Elton/Yo Yo outro is just sublime.

A year late to the party here. When I first saw that Miley did a cover on this song I feared I would be underwhelmed as even though she is very talented, she at times leaves me thinking wtf. But this rendition, WOW. My first thought was how much she sounded like a young Stevie Nick's on the low tones. As the melody grew and her range expanded absolutely beautiful.

I’ve loved this song for such a long time. But I can say, just listening to this version once, it is my absolute favorite version of it. No offense to James, he’s a pillar of hardcore music, but this song... damn, it’s like she was forged to sing it.

I used to hate this cover, but over the past year i have gained a ton of respect for Miley and this cover. She’s got a very wide range of vocals, perfect for many different genres. I also never was into her, but Plastic hearts album is amazing and when i get to it i listen to it from top to bottom.
. although her recent album with Flowers didn't make it for me tbh. But i started differently see her as artist, and her Noting else matters and Zombie covers are freaking amazing and one of the best covers i ever heard!!!
