I use to treat sleep as a reward for working hard. Then I burnt out. Now I’ve realized that sacrificing sleep is counterproductive to achieving my goals. Sleeping 8-9 hours is now a built-in pillar to my productivity.
The irony that we are skimming through the actual book by watching this video. But I guess, most of us need the information first in order to read the book.
One day i had this breakthrough when i asked myself, how much things got added into my life thanks to the thousands of hours spent on the internet trought the last 5 years. The answers is barely nothing
Book First is a cool concept. I read my notes and affirmations first before diving into other things. Also I observed recently that I tend to skim so much info and watch knowledge youtube videos at 1.5 X Speed with still scrolling through other videos. This video appears to be a wake up call and thank you for creating this. Regards,
I have paper books stashed everywhere. As soon as I get a moment; I read. I have an old flip phone that makes me more situational aware and present (mainly for physical security reasons since I carry a loaded firearm at all times due to work.) Smart phones are the source of most of the loss of focus and they spy on you.
Excellent recommendation, especially the realization to fight for focus. And, if one hour in the morning is good, wouldn't two hours or more be better?
I guess it's a compromise between setting priorities and being productive. I guess you could say, Why not 6 hours in the morning (although it is likely evening by then), but then you spent too much time planning to make yourself productive that you skip the productivity.
Loved this idea but it's aimed at a certain demographic. Just impossible to get up and have this much sole attention when you're incharge of 3 small humans. The thought of getting up and having my own time to do something like this sounds like a dream in itself.
On the book reading, I take issue. People dont read as much as they used to? Dude, I spend a buttload of my day reading emails, tech docs, code and bullcrap like tweets or reddit posts. I dont want to read any more when I clock out. I also read to my kid every night for about 12-20 minutes. I have considered getting up in the morning to take a walk then read before the family is up, for leisure/growth but I really dont see reading as all that rewarding any more.
Most seems like bad advice except for the sunlight, starlight and spotlight methodology. You should only read a book if it progresses your starlight, otherwise what’s the point?
Kinda tired of these idea gurus. Their livelihoods depend on creating ideas that are attractive, getting a book deal, then talking about it for months / years. Do you think they believe or even care about that idea usually‽
I would highly recommend this book. According to me this summary, unfortunately, fails to mention some very important ideas that Johann has emphasized in this book. He mentions that this is a Systemic Problem and Individual-level solutions will not suffice. He talks about this idea called "Cruel Optimism", it is when you take a really big problem with deep causes in our culture-like obesity, depression, or addiction and you offer people, in upbeat language, a simplistic individual solution. I definitely don't think Johann comes across the "Idea Gurus" that you talk about. In a way, I think he makes his readers aware of such people through the discussion of Cruel Optimism
Oh, the irony of RUclips putting two 15 sec ads in the middle of a video about people's inability to focus in the 21st century.
Best book I've read in the last twelve months and I read one book a week. He takes complex research and makes it so accessible.

Yeah like to see if i like the book before i actually read it or if it's a concept i have already read in another book
@@nickardomccrae1519 Agreed, when we so frequently see newer books which are just a compilation of in part various older books.
Irony isn't always negative
Meanwhile, I'm skimming through the video as well.
I thought this exact thing too hahaha

After listening this, I'm stopping x2 Playback, sleep 8 hours and thank God, I choosed this audio summery over a music video.
Knowing how to focus is a superpower in the modern world.

Solid Points- I am guilty of being on my phone sometimes before going to bed.
This video "spoke" volumes to me ! Beautiful !!!
Love the new graphics. More refined and accurate. Thanks for the content 🙏🏽
Great breakdown but now I feel bad that I had RUclips open before bed..😂
I skimmed through this summary impatiently
Thank you so much for doing this video. Really hit me in so many ways. Really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for this wakeup call

Thanks!

@5:45 What is this guy’s name? I can’t understand it and the captions aren’t right.

Slight irony in that just watching this video was skimming content.

Well, I wish I could sleep 7-8 hours of day would be amazing, however, I don’t know how to convince my baby
It would help if you s-l-o-w-e-d down. You speak so fast it's difficult to understand.
Make your payback speed 0.75
@@tpmash Thankyou for the tip! I tried it out and it's much better now!
0.75 seems like a much better speed. I almost wonder if the audio was sped up for the video.

James Clear, Atomic Habits and Robin Sharma, the monk that stole a Ferrari… the only 2 I follow, I believe they do
