Nope, he's right. Look at the reception of this song, it's the worst they ever had, so there must be a reason. "A thousand suns" and "Living Things" didn't sound like the first albums at all, but they were still amazing and special.
"Heavy" is an "okay" song, but very mainstream and far from what they can do. This is the type of songs you can hear all day on the radio and you can be damn sure that they made it to be a hit, that's all.

This is a good version, but it pulls the emotion out of the song. It doesn't fit the tone of what Linkin Park were trying to put out.
Most people don't give a shit about emotion. They just want to blow their ears out with heavy guitars, drums, and screaming. I like the original better than this one, but it's just a fact that there are some fans who do not like the softer side of LP, and that goes back to songs like In Between (one of my favorites on MTM) and The Catalyst.

Matt , This cover is great but the original will always be better. The only reason I say this is because the song itself isn't meant to be heavy, the lyrics are. Chester didn't hear it in his head as a heavy, angry song. I think he heard it as a soft, heavy on the heart song.

You need to understand that the linkin park you grew up with in the early 2000's are gone. They've taken risks and exceeded in more ways you could even possibly imagine.
They have naturally evolved and done genre breaking music and have become what they always wanted to be and MORE. I understand that there older music defined a new generation and naturally you will always crave the nostalgia of what made them so special to you, but in the end it doesn't even matter.
If you are a true fan and have never lost sight/sound of them you'll see how fucking awesome they truely are on every level! If you just like an album or 3 maybe more or even just a handful of songs thats great too!
But...there not young anymore just like the rest of us whos been there since beginning. It's all time to grow too! Think its time we move on accept/respect & finally start breaking the habit!

This is literally the LEAST risky song they could have possibly produced right now. It's exactly in line with every pop song out there these days down to the 808 kicks and the complete lack of guitars.

No they haven't. They WERE producing the music they wanted to produce. With The Hunting Party, they marketed that entire album as a "return to their roots" and made statements like "we're a rock band". Fans didn't like their electronic infused stuff on Living Things so they back peddled. Apparently THP didn't sell as well as they'd hoped because now they've done a complete 180 and decided to make the safest sound they could have possibly made. Seems like they're chasing after the money. Not after "genre breaking music". If they were really naturally evolving they would have continued in the direction that Living Things took because that's obviously where they were heading since Minutes to Midnight. Instead they tried to appeal to their old school fans and now they're just trying to appeal to mainstream audiences that eat up this generic pop.
I don't even think Heavy is a bad song. It's pretty decent for what it is. But it's so obvious that it didn't come from any sort of creative place at all. You could have said it was the new Maroon 5 song and I would have believed it.

I don't understand you people that say this is better than the original. It's a very sad song (if you pay attention to the lyrics), HEAVY is trying to touch your feelings, It's not a rebellious song like their old stuff.
