    I love how you skip getting the valve stem in because that is the part that sucks and is nearly impossible

    • @rumad19
      @rumad19 10 лет назад +8

      Im no expert but I've done a couple and I find grabbing the valve between your 1st and 2nd fingers like holding a cigarette but a closer the the finger nails with the tube on the upside of your hand works well, I make the gap a bit wider with my left hand and just push my valve cigarette deep into the gap curl my fingers a little and slot the valve in, takes seconds :)

    • @dankcherries22
      @dankcherries22 7 лет назад +13

      Thats literally the only reason I was watching this is to try and find a better way of lining up the valve stem. I find if im really having a bitch of a time like with a stiff tire and heavy tube you can use the tire iron to pry BOTH sides of the bead to the outside of the rim. then your not fighting the bead trying to drop into center right where your valve stem goes.

    • @discflight
      @discflight 7 лет назад +3

      Yep I chuckled then too! I find not too much air in the tube for that part then add a bit more once stem through rim. I'd love to hear anyone else's good way... ✌️

    Consider using the new tire (or an old tire) placed underneath the old tire/wheel as a cushion when jumping on the old tire to break the bead. It minimizes or eliminates contact of the disc/sprocket with the floor/ground.

    I know I'm way behind and this video is almost 9 years old, but if you're still at BB, THANK YOU!! I change a lot of road tires and have a No Mar for that, but it's too much of a pain for dirt bike tires. I have the exact same stand as in this video, but I don't go through them enough to remember all the tricks. Technique is a big factor. This is the first time I've seen someone recommend standing the tire up on the floor and spooning it off. That was awesome!! Do not forget the valve stem wire puller thing. Haha. Anyway, my tire change wasnt "easy" but they were better than in the past. If I did more than one set every 6 or 8 months, I'd be way better!!

    Thank You sir. I had not changed a new motocross tube in 40 years (I recently got back into riding) but I took on the challenge and got it done in one evening. Besides your information two things I learned. Once one side of the tire is opened, install the valve stem otherwise it will be harder to align and install later on. When installing the time on the rim, go down one side to get past the tire lock. The tire will be harder to install the remaining portion of a tire if you have to work in the area of the tire lock.

    In 16 years of riding dirtbikes I finally changed a tire on my own a few hours ago. The best tip I can give is to keep pressure on one side of the tire with a spoon while you're working with the other spoon on the other side. It really is that easy. And like Steve said, lube is key.

    I am tackling a 1980 Yamaha TT 500 rear wheel with bad spokes and an almost new "Old Tire" so It's a Beotch ! no matter how "lubed" I get it. I find a small bar clamp or "C" clamp to keep the tire pinched together and into the center groove helps to lessen the need to stretch the bead..

    Best freakin "how to change a dirtbike tire" video on here. This guy makes that motocross tire look like it is made of silly putty. The Dunlop D606 DOT tires I run on my WR250R are way stiffer and about ten times more difficult to wrangle onto the rim. One last step I would suggest is to check your bead all the way around on both sides after you have it all mounted to make sure it seated properly. 1/10 times it won't seat right and I have to take my spoons and work the bead out around the edges

    1mnutz is crazy. Of course you put air in the tube first. Have you every had a bad tube? Nothing worse then putting on a tube that you thought was perfect just to find you have a leak. Great Videos, I've used your technique tor changing tires and it works perfectly. In cold climates where I live, I put the tires in front of a heater first before adding the lubricant. Thanks so much for the vids.

    Had to watch this today while changing the rear tire on my 2001 honda xr200r I just bought. Pretty sure the old tire was original and super stuff. Had to use a cutoff wheel to saw the tire in half to get it off, there was just no prying it off. But once one side was off the other wasnt too bad. Got the new tire started, tube in and fought like crazy getting the valve stem through because the new tire is still quite stiff. Fought me the whole way and I'll be super lucky if I didnt pinch the tube. Guess I'll see if it still has air in the morning lol.

    • @berube361
      @berube361 4 года назад

      @Derek Gardin Unfortunatly the tube did pinch and lost air. I found out after getting the tire on that it had a date code from 2006 so despite being new it was older and explained why it was a bit stiff. Took it to my local shop and he got a tube in no issue since he has a proper stand and better tire spoons.

    I too am new to changing tires. I tried this method today on my son CRF 150 and fell short today. I was able to put a new tire on the front rim but blew through the tube installing it. went to put air in it and heard a lit of air everywhere.
    the back tire came off easy. just like a bicycle would come off but putting the new tire baxk on... yeah didn't work well. my guess is I didn't have the proper length spoons or not enough lube on or both.
    anyways baxk to bringing the tires and rim baxk to the shop for now. like anything I guess I need more practice.

    I just changed my first tire on a KX85. Taking it off ended up being not too bad. Then putting the new one on was giving me fits. After it was a good way on, I aborted, because I realized that I was stuck. I knew what I wanted to do differently. I could feel myself making progress and getting close, and kept hearing Matthes saying little bites, little bites, which got me oh so close, but I could no longer use the irons, and then remember Matthes saying to do the last part by hand, and BOOM ...... I did it.

      chubby42806 Hey Chub,On our website, type in a search for a valve stem puller. That little tool is awesome. Makes the job super easy, and saves your knuckles, works on both valve stems and inner tubes, and doesn't cost much at all. Thanks again for watching our videos.

    Probably wouldn’t hurt to put a little heat on the tire (ie let it sit in the sun or let it sit in front of a garage heater) depending on the temperature could really make a difference sometimes

    This would have been a great video of you didn’t cut out the part that I came here to watch. I’m having trouble getting the valve stem to get the tube back in. Any tricks for this?

    Thank you thank you Thank you; I’m the amateur who is pinching the tube 3 times in a row because I don’t put any air in a tube . .....

    its easier if you put the tube in the tyre before putting the tyre to the rim, and also i like to grease the tube, that way it will last longer and less like to get a flat when going through rough rock trails
