I'm a musician and Irish dancer from Dublin, and have heard dancers dance to this song for years. I was looking around RUclips to see how people play it, and NOBODY else I found plays it with a swing like this, which is how it's supposed to be played. Either all the notes are somehow wrong, or it's all straight 8th notes and has no hornpipe feel. I loved this, and your rendition of The Butterfly slip jig. Thank you from Dublin!

My first interaction with this song is from a game called Morrowind. The song came from a mod someone made back in 2005-2008... a huge castle with Nordic/Irish mythos tied to the few quests involved with it.
It plays in a dockside tavern, with a talking fish that begins "Drunken Sailor" if you ask it to. But I always remember "King of the Fairies" because I had to request it from the band that was playing in that tavern.
All aside, I completely forgot about "peakfiddler" around 2013, and just now decided to search for "King of the Fairies." Boom. It's there right here, with a tab I can play on my mandolin. So much love from the Aspect of Music, my friend. Also so good to see this channel still kicking.

Hi Olga, it will be something that I have recorded myself, as I like to record other instruments behind my fiddle playing. I would normally put up a lesson and make a backing track video for a tune like this, but last time I tried to make a recording of this in the key of C, I got challenged by a copyright company who evidently feel that this traditional melody is their property. So I haven't bothered since.
