I agree the simplicity is what attracts me to it, its a knife, it looks solid and and it does what its suppose to do, the fancier a knife looks the cheaper it looks in my oppinion
....absolutely disagree with the statement of this publication!! I think that these SRK"s are one of the most beautifully designed and constructed knives...~!
As a Toyota fan, I understand your comparison. We had a 2001 Toyota Camry. We had gone from New York to Georgia in various trips. It got into a wreck and was totaled. We missed that Camry. Anyway, as a Cold Steel fan, I have a Recon Tanto San Mai 3, Kobun, Drop Forged Survivalist, and a Click N Cut. I also own 3 Cold Steel Machetes and 19 Kitchen Classics/Commercial Series knives. So that is all of my Cold Steel fixed blades. But of my 4 Cold Steel true fixed blades, including my Click N Cut, my Recon Tanto SM3 is my Lamborghini. It is ONLY for mail opening and home defense. My DF Survivalist and Click N Cut are my Toyota Tundra and Tacoma; my rugged go to's for hard use, and it show with all of the scratches on them. My Kobun is my Camry; practical for whatever tasks. That is my designated knife for fishing. But i feel that your Master Tanto is for the looks; your SRK is for the woods. Just my 2 cents. Nice video though.
Nice collection 👍🔪. Im not new to Cold Steel but I am new to buying them. Im totally obsessed with these knives lol. Ive only been buying them for about nine months now but i have six already lol, just got my Kobun straight edge blade today haha!
from my use, no. it'll baton okay, do some shaping okay, do some food or utility okay, its really kind of just okay at everything outdoorsy but not as good as all the specialty tools. i use mine in my smaller kit for hikes or non-basecamp stuff because of its smallish profile and jack of all trades ability.
Light chopping but better for battoning, not meant for heavy chopping but a great knife especially for the price, and i love the look of the srk personaly
Just came across this cool channel tonight while checking out some CS tanto vids, which led me to your latest two vids on my all time fave mid-size primary "wilderness survival" blade, the ever popular SRK (have been rocking the earlier gen San Mai w/the wide Ricasso - the former VG-1 iteration). Have very much enjoyed listening to your detail-oriented thoughts and musings on these fine knives and others, as well as your style of presentation/reviews. You've got a new sub here. Wishing you and yours a blessed Chrismas season. 🎄
Thanks so much! I really appreciate kind words and the feedback. I have a VG1 Recon Tanto with the large Ricasso coming in the mail, looking forward to that one!
Pull the trigger finally found the san mai on amazon for $90. Loved the kydex sheath, 4-6in blade great for multipurpose. Not too fat but big enough to chop small wood. Handle fits great in the palm. Added a paracord chain and done!
I just bought the SRK C after watching so many great reviews. I thought it was super boring looking to but after receiving it in the mail and holding it, it's just way too practical and comfortable for me not to like.
In my opinion the Recon 1 (folder), the Master Hunter (hunting /utility), the SRK (survival /tactical) and the Trail master (survival /wilderness self defence) are the KINGZ of All Knives. I know CS can be a hit or miss sometimes, they make shit products too, but these 4 knives are the all time Kings of knives.
I couldn't agree more. I always find myself reaching for a Trailmaster for chopping and a smaller knife for skinning game. If I can only have one blade, I think a slightly longer and heavier blade like the Fallkniven A2, can chop and skin game.
As such my Srk doesn't get used as much..just doesn't have the heft to chop. I think the MTECH 096 bowie in 8 inch is pretty Dane good chopper..and thin enough to cut veggies..and sometimes goes on sale for 11.99..regular price is like 16 dollars..crazy price for the knife you get. And that 440A steel is no slouch either.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I collect. And I must say the SRK 3v is the most beautiful and perfect knife I have ever seen. I could just hold it in my hands for hours while watching tv. On the other hand the tanto is really ugly to my eyes. Just always seemed like a sushi knife to me lol. But to each his/her own. 🤷🏻♂️
Just to know the rubber handle seems to be failing on these. Check out 411 outdoors. It was brand new and he threw it 3 times and the handle had was making noise. I am still a cold steel fan but I just think GSN really needs to look at there quality control. Don't think this happened when Lynn Thompson owned the company. Just let every body the heads up.
Honestly, the handle is great… it’s durable material (I went to town hammering stuff with it to check it out and it still looks mint), it’s well formed and it’s comfortable and grippy. But I don’t like it. I want to change the handle up on my srk because I have a preference towards natural materials. I just don’t have a lot of equipment or know how on how to do that
I’m reading that the Kabar knives are stub tang construction, and are failing. The full tanged knives are inherently more rugged. I have a Survival Lilly knife, and an SRK. Tough stuff. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
I don't think its boring myself. It looks super cool, like Leon Kennedy's knife. An iconic classic.

Love cold Steel knives... the SRK has been on my list to get for years as an addition to the shoulder strap of my EDC bag
Check it out and let me know what you think! It's a great blade
I picked the sk5 srk I love it. The shape just work's.
Agreed! It's a great choice, especially at the prices for the Sk5's

My question is can it be a good chopper?
Good is kind of relative I suppose haha. But for its size and design, it does just fine. Not really meant as a chopper though.

They've got a cool blue Kraton handled Space Force Kabar.
Haha I know I picked one up!
Me too! Beautiful show piece. Too Fn pretty to use. Just a queen.
It's very simple but effective.
Is the SRK compact the Corolla ? Be pretty sweet if it was.
Lololol it would indeed

I actually like the simple design of it like the video tho
To each their own!

That slightly offset blade on the USMC KABAR has always bugged me. It should line up evenly with the handle 🤦🏻♂️

The 3v version is the Toyota hilux of knives.
And what where you doing, when you broke the tip of your SRK in SK-5 steel? Hm...
Pretty light use. The hollow ground sk5 is pretty thin at the tol
@@MattRoseKnives Well since I do not split wood with a knife. I'm good :)
you will break any tip off a knife if you abuse them hell you should see my box of k bars ive broke
Lol a millennial giving a review on the official knife of the US navy seals
Just wait until you find out that millennials have been SEALS for years now. Embarrassing!
Junk
Nahhh
Love the knife ,only thing I don't like is the rubber on the hand guard. It tends to rub off and peel a bit.
