These are huge wdym. Good review, not for me however, I think I'ma try a mini bronco
I also like my Kobun very much, for most of the same reasons...very capable for it's weight and price. Have to disagree with you about the belt clip though. I find the tension of the sheath on the knife (how hard you need to pull to remove knife) overwhelms the tension of the clip on my belt. Whether I wear it IWB or OWB, the darned thing comes off the belt before the knife comes clear. Have a Tek-Lok on order to replace that silly, slippery spring steel. As usual with Cold Steel, good blade in so-so sheath.
I am a Marine too retired after 23 years in Dec 2003, I started out carrying the Ka-bar than which to the Gerber Mark II 22-01874 which I still have. I also used an AL Mar that I picked up in Japan, great Knife, I ended up my service carrying the Cold Steel War Craft, love this knife. I have looked at the Master Tanto just haven't got one yet.
Looks great with the satin blade and orange handle! CS should offer it as general option! The height of the blade is also less than on the full size. So all around smaller.
No branding on handle therefore a copy surely.
Mine just got delivered to me today (11/29/2024). I love it!!! I was thinking of a Large Voyager but decided to go with the Rajah III instead. First thing I noticed is the weight, or lack thereof. It says 5 oz. on the box. Feels closer to 4 ounces. I love the girth and shape of the handle. I've been getting into 4" blades for the past few months. This one at 3.5" seems okay to me for utility and self-defense. Another thing I noticed immediately is the tri-ad lock is much easier and lighter to actuate compared to either of my Recon 1s. I cannot use the lockback of my Recons with my index finger. I can on this one. It's still not as light as my Spyderco lockbacks though. Initial impressions are very positive. I need to use some wrist to flick it out though but that's okay.
SABER GRIND!
Umm no, it means that ugly (on the inside) people do ugly things. Also, that's full tang because of the full tang.
My banana is custom from Nicaragua! 🤣🤣🤣
Always liked Case knives and just picked one of these up with a 20% discount at my local knife shop. Great modern flipper knife made in the USA and I would rather support Case. It’s a really good knife for what you’re paying for it. Sure it has a couple things that a knife snob could pick on but I think they’re headed in the right direction with what they’ve put out here with the kinzua. I’ll be watching to see if they’re listening to their customer base and making improvements over time.
Store it spine at the bottom inside the sheath. Same way the Samurai held their katanas in their waist--sharp edge up, to prevent dulling.
As far as I'm concerned, high carbon steel is a super steel, if the heat treat is right. 💪
Totally agree! It’s all about that heat treat!💪
420 steel 🥴
Haha I feel ya
At 9" that blade would be classed as a mini khukri, British military is 11" today. WW2 BRITISH Forces in Burma used a 15" blade. Hong Kong Police carry the small 9" blade today.
I'm pretty sure the hong Kong ones probably use a kydex sheath with modern grips.
@earlahmer5528 You are probably correct, it would make sense. Myself I have only seen a photo and it wasn't very clear and it didn't mention the sheath in the accompanying article
NOT EXPENSIVE!!!! Great value! Why do people always want something for nothing
Nice to see a reviewer who clearly actually uses the knives they're talking about. So many reviewers out there will have these pristine factory-new knives that they act like they use all the time but have barely made it out of the box.
Amen, YT and Instagram are full of flashy sponsored reviewers
f**k I bought a Taipan and I can't get it out of its sheath for half an hour, my hands are falling off.
👍Very insightful review(s). Thank you!!
THAT is a sweet kukri!!
received mine today, added my first self made lanyard. I paid over 100 euro, with kydex. but if someone told me this costs 250, i wouldn't be surprised, the quality is just insane.
Thank you. It’s November 2024 and my Master Tanto, from Amazon, tax included, is $99.98; it will be here tomorrow. It is my first Tanto and my first Cold Steel.
I agree that a crappy sheath on a $100+ knife is not acceptable. I just bought the 3v SRK & the sheath I received is just as bad as these!
You can criticize Spyderco because of the box it comes in and how thin the tip is and because it looks funny...blah blah blah, but they are about the only company that has a really good heat treat, so you can go buy a softie Benchmade or some other brand where most of the chromium is in solution and the carbides arent what they are supposed to be, but im gonna pay extra and know im getting the blade steel i pay for with an excellent heat treat and stick with Spyderco!!!
Nahhh. They’re not the only company with good heat treat. Benchmade has a soft heat treat, I think they always have. But Buck’s heat treat is outstanding, Cold Steel does excellent heat treats, and so does LionSteel. Lotta good company’s with good steel and heat treat. Like what ya like though. I still like spyderco, just think them and Benchmade are both a bit off with pricing
*Over Priced and Cheap Manufacturing...This is essentially another Chinese Schrade Knockoff* *SK5 is just barely hardenable..1045-1050* *Maybe if it was half the price CS is asking for it....MAYBE*
Good video review of the Buck 119. Odd comparison knife to chose. Thumbs up and subscribed
CRKT is Columbia River Knife & Tool.
Esee heavy duty? Dude, are you for real?
But do the T5 and T6 both have a FULL tang??
IMHO Cold Steel SRK knives are the most knife for the carry weight. And that seems to be true for the SRK-C. Great choice for long range backpackers.
Good option Ive gravitated towards pocket fix blades because try as i might i just know i wouldn't enter into "polite society" with a fix blade that needs to be belted and folding knives have too many points of failure, id rather not worrt about medhanical drawbacks when using a knife roughly or cleaning after wetwork I am pretty irritated over the thickness of knives thesebdays however.
It comes with a Ferro rod but can you strike a Ferro rod on that spine?
Compare to the ZT 0770
This is my third tirade lock,my edc is the recon 1. Within around 1 year I got lint in the lock and it failed to seat. I contacted cold steel and got the worst experience in customer support I’ve ever experienced. They gave me the run around, stated that a case worker got sick & couldn’t get into my warranty case. I kept having to call & finally after the 5 call the operator from cold steel stated the don’t do warranty work. I looked on RUclips & I cleaned the tirade lock of what was pocket lint. So I wish they were just honest and just my own experience. Thanks you midway USA has these for $50 shipped. That’s why I got one. 🙏
The Gordon is definitely sharp.
Howmuch cost Buck 119 knife sir?
I'm thinking about taking the black off the bevel of mine.. but leaving it on the rest of the blade and changing out the scales to some African black wood my friend has laying around . I've had mine prolly...8 ? years something like that and barely have any flaking of the black from the tip . One of best knives I have ever owned..
Yeah go for it! That would look dope
Get to the damn point already. 3 minutes in and you're still in the intro stages.
Do you like the fucking grind ? Already !!
One reason they may not be into heavily finishing the handle. An old school wooden handle knife is meant to be filed/sanded to fit your hand and then you add the final finish. Over-finishing it ahead of time just gets in the way. Much like an axe or hatchet. I personally just want the raw wood with no finish. I can tune it up, fine sand it, add any markings, maybe burn it a little and then apply my favorite oil finish.
That’s a great point! And this knife would be ideal for that.
Same 1066 as my BPS - one scandi and the other full flat. Very usable steel and great value. Thanks 👍
It would be a very simple matter to put improved scales onto this knife, tailored to the user's hand. According to my investigations, the downwards lanyard hole siting on your BPS example is less than ideal. The Beavercraft would work better for me in this regard, but I would wish to put my own scales on, to improve comfort, and perhaps restrict the lanyard hole to an upper positioning. Kind of talking myself into another project here ;D
The Marilla is one of my favorite knives in my rotation. I'm surprised this knife isn't more popular.
Too expensive
@azdragoon72 $119 at Smokey Mountain knife
Just bought the same color. Great 🇺🇸 made Case.
minute 08:40 that could be the idea of a bottle opener and nut cracker type design element. but I`m same as you, it looks not that much helpful and even disturbing with larger hands. This detail at the end of any knife, is for me reason enough to stay away from buying.
The warcraft tanto will chop and split wood better, thus better for camp craft.
I picked up a few BPS knives that have really impressed me so I was curious about Beavercraft. Thanks! And I agree on that odd "lanyard hole."
time to update this one is discontinued
BUCK 119 4 eva !!
I carry this on my side and side carry a Kabar BK2 on the back of my belt
I just bought this same knife as a gift for myself
