This is my favorite king by far! It is an intense drama about the sudden transformation of the foolish young man unexpectedly delivered into the prepared hands of death-and what does he do? He accepts it! And that is what is profoundly unique about this young man. That is what makes him a hero to me. That's the wracked and emotionally charged power of Richard II!
I really love this play. I'm not sure I think he's my favorite king, and I think he's way better suited to be like a priest or a librarian or something than ruling a kingdom, but I love watching how it all falls out.
This video is so amazing. After watching this I am now able to write any questions that occurs from this chapter. Thank you so much for such type of videos.
+Books and Things It killed me not to just quote Richard's lines the whole time, but it's one of the few I've never seen onstage! Have you seen the BBC's Hollow Crown series? Their Richard II was just beautiful.
I've seen the Henry IV, but not the next. I really need to. Especially the Henry V as I've never seen that one on stage. I've seen Richard II twice and I love it so so much!
To be honest, i'm very glad for your mistake of Aumerle killing Richard, because after i watched your vid, I went to read the play, thinking Aumerle is the murderer but then the play surprised me with Exton! So watching your vid both gives me a summary of what the play is about before i read the play and also leaves me some suspense. So great work! and your voice is very soothing too!
Indeed. Hopefully I haven't thrown too many people off track. Every production I've seen conflates these characters, and I got mixed up writing the script.
You neglected to mention Richard's last stand where he killed 2 of the hired killers. The 1982 David Birney version does him one better and allows him to kill 3.
Can you explain what you mean? You'd like your own set of finger puppets of the cast of the show to perform it for her yourself? Or so she can play with them?

Just finished reading this play for the first time, (Arden edition of course!). Thank you for simplifying the plot points, your videos are great.
Thanks so much! I'm glad it was helpful. :)
I wish I could find these finger puppets somewhere! Getting my daughter ready to go see a live production

Brilliant :) Richard II is one of my favourite Shakespeare plays, probably my favourite history play alongside Julius Caesar :)

this is so creative and helpful thank you :D
Oh, I'm glad! You're welcome. :)
Sir Piers of Exton kills Richard, not Aumerle.
You are correct. That was my mistake. Every production I've seen conflates these characters, and I just got confused while writing the script.
Was wondering this! But still, great video
GIRL I LOVE these videos!!!!! They're great! Keep 'em comin'!!!!! :D
+Brown Girl Reading You just made my day! Thank you. :)

Came here to say this.
