I have a DDR rescue i don"t know how old he is or his past. I have had Him for 5 and a half years, he is slowing down. When he is gone a part of me will also die, and leave a huge hole in my heart. He is a gift from God. I should be always be thankful for the time we have together.
I agree. We had a DDR before all this ridiculous breeding program started. I didn't even see the dog except his pics. He was trained by my two maternal uncles and would eat only if my mom fed, worst case my grandpa. He lived for roughly 10 years and died in 1962. So, this is way back. He acted in two Indian movies and won in a dog show. He was trained like super K9. No one can go near him. He would allow only two people other than my mom side folks. He was 9 when my mom got married and she raised him since he was tiny. He would sniff my dad. Our house earned a nickname dog house, meaning no one can dare to enter the house. My mom and my uncles would spend a lot of time with him as they were all unmarried. They would say "Do you know how much work it takes to train a dog like that?" He would not move an inch without my uncles command. Super confident, smart, agile, amazing livliness. He was named Cesar and lived like the Roman emperor. Why would anyone take a good breed and develop breeds with so many health issues? Welcome to USA. GSD-Greatest, Smartest Dog, God's Security Dog.
Cuida a tu amigo que fue un regalo de Dios, disfruta cada minuto, recuerda que él también te rescató a ti! Saludos y un fuerte abrazo desde Guatemala 🇬🇹!
Among all the dogs I’ve known and I’ve shared time with, the DDR I have on the 80s was definetly on another level. Comparing that animal with all other dogs I had is not fair. The courage, sharp instincts, fighting skills, obedience…perfect balance…Top animals
Very moving... beautiful... so great to hear someone.not getting caught up in drive...protection...aggression..you see them first and foremost as dogs... beautiful sentient beings. That deserve love and companionship.
I bought a very high percentage (97%+) DDR Schaeferhund puppy from a proud breeder here in Alabama in 21. This is my 4th GSD, and my second working line. I’m amazed by this little shepherd. Smart, driven, alert, motivated, and most importantly level-headed. I left him intact in case I want to breed him. He’s that impressive. Great video!
In my opinion, the DDR is the ultimate German Shepherd. Stable, solid nerves, confidence, rock solid in all situations. I recently acquired a pup with heavy DDR lines, super excited to see how he grows.n Already he is a perfect match for me and we are super bonded.
I love reading this. That's the "secret", when you get a GSD - bonding, regardless of bloodlines. But also I hear you well, when it comes to looks, the DDR definitely has the edge, so I'm sure you're seeing some fine bone structure on your dog.
@@PsychoSpit He just turned a year old. He is a big pain in the butt, but the sweetest dog I've ever had. He adores children, pretty standoffish with adults he doesn't know. He's stuck to me like glue. A massive cuddle bug. He's super stocky, still short though hoping he gains a little height. Incredible bark, nobody would even come near my house the way he barks. Super territorial of the backyard and house.
I had my first DDR GSD when I was 35. Best dog/companion ever. Had him collected before a prostrate issue. I now have his son 75% DDR and just as amazing. Im retiring and will spend everyday enjoying him and giving him the best life I can
I just received akc ddr shepherd from a veterans organization, and he has bonded with me so immensely, he is so beautiful and so chill unless something is up
I have a 10 month old East German/Czech shepherd. She's a beautiful dark sable. Cairo is very intelligent with lots of drive. She is all business! She's my first working line shepherd.
To everyone who has followed me on my old channel. I will do my best to make a second part, in a desire to bring closure to things, as I want to share my life lessons while breeding dogs.
This is a beautiful video and I hear the pain in your voice at the possibility of losing a piece of living history. Back in the day, I raised Lipizzaner horses here in the US where they are considered a threatened breed (less than 1,000). They have the same problem as DDR, a small gene pool, a long recorded history, good owners and of course a share of stupid people breeding them to other breeds. So I understand. This catches my attention because I would like to have a nice family GSD dog who is self confident enough to do beginner ring work yet kind enough to get along with my menagerie of rescue dogs. My GSD/BM rescue is doing fantastic but is on the shy side. So don’t know one DDR dog line from another. I sense that you are hoping to find a network of really good family owners who are also good handlers with good intentions. But what those good owners need is a functioning network with one or more advisors. In my time, each year the director of the Spanish Riding School visited each US region and viewed the breeding stock/youngsters presented and he stayed at the homes of the organizers. He openly graded each horse’s conformation and temperament so everyone learned what to look for in their breeding programs. Imho, rare lines/breeds can exist and grow as long as their is some sort of structure in place to help guide well intentioned owner/handler/breeders who don’t know the bloodlines or are not well educated in conformation
I totally hear you! Thank you for the fine, nicely detailed post. And by the way, I thought the Lipitzanner is a Romanian breed (Lipițan) but I know pretty much nothing about horses so I'll keep quiet 😂 But yes, I like the way you point out the gene pool element and the structure aspect. I actually want to congratulate you on being among the very few who still see things for what they are. Gene pool and structure to work on have been taken over by money. That's the number one reason things have gotten to where they are, not just when taking GSD's, but most working dog breeds.
I have a Shepherd that is the offspring of German imports. He is highly socialized, super intelligent and flawlessly protective..mama has a pet and companion when I'm gone..I test him, he's a tiger,,,no one comes into the yard and when they do he's cool until mama has a concern. The pooch is watchful, intuitive and highly responsive...we bought our Shephard from a breeder in Colorado,,quite pleased
@@DDRGermanShepherdDog People adopt dogs from shelters and really don't know their lineage, half the time the people at the shelters guess what breed it is. I purchased the Shephard I mentioned and a Dobie pup and these dogs were great dogs. I never did much more than obedience train them...I guess I'm doing what you said..."enjoy the simple presence of my dog"...best wishes...the DDR dogs bloodline should remain and remain undiluted...Here in America we see dilution all the time. The ads say "Belgian Malinois/Poodle" or 'Rhodesian Ridgeback/Dalmatian" mixes for. It's a shame..
@@guysolis5843 cool stuff, thank you for the kind person you are, by giving new life to the dogs you saved! Sometimes we focus so much on royal blood that we neglect those "simple" ones around us. And yes, bottom line is, you got the dog - stop worrying about its history and etc (unless you aim to breed!!!) and simply enjoy its presence - while it is still around.
@@DDRGermanShepherdDog Our friends always go too soon..but I've always had a dog in my life. At 62, the working class and energetic Shephard I have now is almost too much for me..take car, good talking to you..
@@guysolis5843 thank you for stopping by! I hear you, that's because the breeders focused mainly on high prey drive, which is what scores well in sports and what brings more cash to the seller. I mean breeder.
Happy to see you come back, I love your videos and your dogs. I have a DDR German Shepherd myself. I absolutely love the breed and enjoyed the videos you put out years ago. Welcome back!
@FreddyCondo, I love the German Shepherd breed myself. The greatest breed in the world. I am on my 6th one. I just watched a video by a German Shepherd breeder and he was saying don't be fooled by the DDR or Czech name. All it is, is marketing BS! I live in Massachusetts and get all my German Shepherds from a very good breeder in New Hampshire. They are all show line dogs. They are intelligent, strong, protective, and good natured healthy dogs. My most recent is Dakota. He is all black long haired with a huge head and weighs 125 pounds. He is a knock out. I wish I knew how to send you a photo of him but I don't. Love him to death.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ One more myth. Not all showline dogs are angulated either. Many are straight back. One of my 6 were angulated, and he was as healthy as the straight backs. He could run like a Cheetah as well. Good luck with your German Shepherd. Best breed!! Freddie,
We have a wonderful red Sable east german DDR. She is sweet, adventurous loyal smart and strong. Lovely personality. She smiles big and toothy when she gets belly rubs. ❤love this video. We are considering breeding her staying true to her history. She was brought from germany by her trainer Bill. Bill knew and loved the breed.
main problem you are facing is keeping a proper genetical diversity. this is a common problem for each pure breed to ensure that you have no overlaps for at least four generations to be able to obtain healthy offsprings. BTW, I loved your puppies - they are great!
Thank you for the comment on our pups! And yes, the problem is always both found or solved in the genes. I did not want to step out of specific lines and I knew eventually things will lead me to a closed angle. But I preferred that way, than mixing the blood like crazy, like so many others have done. And look where things are today.
Genetic diversity is not need to have healthy offsprings, this is all a scam. If you want healthy dogs, just don't feed them on cooked or kibble food, only feed them naturally RAW, so you don't damage their genese, like most of the people does.
I have my 1st GSD shes half DDR and half west and has a beautiful black and silver coat. Shes a talker, a big talker. Never a dull moment and always a pure joy.
These are beautiful, highly intelligent dogs who need loving homes with a lot of human companionship. Wonderful breed. Truly got to know this Czech working line after having had one for a few years. YOU are their person. The bond established has no comparison. They show you their soul. ❤
I have a intact male DDR Shepherd. He is my almost constant companion. He is so even tempered that even the local Vet said that he is one of the very few intact male GSD's who they can handle with no problem away from my presence. Both of his parents were imported from Europe.
We would also be interested in knowing the pedigree. We are looking to breed our female DDR next year. She is imported from Germany and well trained. Lovely dog
I love your puppies and all the dogs you have shown. I would love one. My GSD is very long legged and she is big and thick. She has seizures sometimes. But we are blessed to afford the meds, and we give her the best life always. And she is protective also. My prayers always that her issue will stop. I have been laughed at for that statement. But she has gone from having clusters and multiple seizures a month, to 1 once and a while. We love our Bandit. Bless ya'll.
Never ever ever underestimate the power of prayer and never overestimate those around you - I guess even more so when you're being laughed at. Prayer works, both you and I know that but at the same time we know sometimes the answer does not come. I pray God will bless you in whatever way He decided to, in this circumstance you mentioned! As long as you offer the best life possible to her, all is well, regardless of the ending this story will have. Thank you for making yourself vulnerable and sharing your journey, it takes strength!
Great vid, this was how i adopted mine “failed protection dog” and the owner didnt want. Well, that was my good fortune, cause now i have a beautiful, fun and very intelligent companion.
No one getting in my front door.GSD.❤ 7 GSD. Different personality. u. Great dogs.but all my dogs have give me so much pleasure and will always protect me and my family Grest dogs. One of the best.
Great video, insight and facts. I have 2 DDR in the UK from Serbia. I do protection training with them. I have had West German shepherds from a young age. The DDR’s bite the sleeve, once they win it they drop and continue going for the man. I totally agree personal protection is inbuilt the DDR’s genetics.
This was beautiful! I grew up with a Rough Collie and a Westie. As an adult I raised a German Shepherd with no papers and a Beagle-terrier mix. Also rescued a Maltese with some treatable health problems. The last 14 years, I’ve raised a Collie-mix and a Chihuahua (both rescued) that are both nearing the end of their lives. The Rough Collie, the German Shepherd, and the Beagle-mix were the most gentle. All are different; all wonderfully unique dogs that lived good lives. I just began helping my daughter with a Cavapoo that she just rescued, and my grown son wants a German Shepherd. I want to steer him toward a DDR but have been tentative because of some of the videos out there. I’m glad I stumbled across this one that reaffirms my approach all along: Dogs are the most wonderful companions that just need the love and nurturing according to their natural temperament. First and foremost, they’re family.
I love the way you end your comment, thank you for taking time to do it. Too many dog movers out there, I for one know quite a few. It's all business to them. You're talking about rescuing dogs so obviously you're at the other end of the spectrum. Again thank you for taking time to comment.
Great video I’ve had the pleasure oh 5 gds in my time lost the last not long ago he reminded me of a DDR dog but Iam not sure he came with no paperwork but he was a awesome dog with all the quality’s you’ve shown in your video if I is lucky enough to have another in my life I will strive to get a DDR thanks again for this wonderful video
I owned a West German shepherd with Pink papers that came from a police dog. The stud / father was great and my dog Rommel was the smartest best dog I personally ever owned. He was not bite trained although I'm sure he could have done so, but he was obediently trained and he was great and a great family pet. I've trained dogs to hunt ally life and he would even hunt with me once he knew what I wanted. He always wanted to please, but he had to have a job or he had too much anxiety so I was very busy keeping him busy mentally and physically. The best dogs though and I hear good things about DDR dogs. ❤
I don't know about all this east and west, but you can go look at my shorts my dog is a force to be reckoned with and I never taught her any aggression. She's trained but I never felt like I even wanted to train her in aggression because she already protects her home and her yard with her life yet I can take her anywhere. Her manners are impeccable. I have no doubt if someone broke into my house unless they had a weapon they would not leave, when she's at my gate and someone tries to baby talk her it just makes her more intense. Her whole body actually vibrates. She's not a barker but she's always watching everything. Everybody thinks she's a male. I would give my life for this dog she's a one in a billion. She's always watching. Very independent secure animal. Doesn't follow me around but always has one eye on me to see what I'm doing. Anyway I just feel I got a one in a million dog and it's a shame I'm not at her level because I feel this dog could have done anything. She's smarter than I am😂😂
I always had German Shepherd , it's the best bit I never had a DDR bloodline one I do agree about everything , they do need everyday a lot of hours of exercise and a constant committed strong training at least for the first 3 years. Doing that you will have the most amazing dog friend ever!
I adopted a GSD ex show girl at @ 4/5 yrs. No longer needed by owner. Criminal, she didn't know stairs. But she wasn't leaving me in the workshop alone. Sweetest gentlest dog. Friends 4yr old daughter would kiss & hug her to no end. She loved it. RIP Daphne.
My niece is trying to re-home her three year male after divorce. He's beautiful and don't want to see her lose him . She has asked me if I would take him, but my female will have no part.
I only found out recently that there are different lines in GSDs. I watched a youtube video by a woman who is a vet, she said that there are 5 bloodlines. Also said that the DDR Shepherds are not good for pets, as they are very high in aggression. So I'm glad to come across video, better information. I have always admired GSDs, bought Winifred Gibson Strickland's book Expert Obedience Training for Dogs, hers were all GSDs. I had to call this city's (calgary) animal people when I came across a beautiful grey/black and tan GSD on the street downtown, he belonged to what looked like a crack house, but nobody was home, and the neighbours were feeding him pizza and scraps. My Standard Poodle tried to make friends, but he just ran away. He wouldn't come near me, he was very nervous, abused I'm sure -- and he had a large wound in his shoulder, so I called the City, who came at once, and it took them an hour to catch him, in the back yard of the house. He was able to hide under shrubbery, and he was so afraid. The finally got him, and I'm sure the owners never got him back again. I always felt bad for him, wished I could do more, but Calgary has really good resources for dogs. I've never actually bought a GSD, what with one thing and another in life, I had Standard Poodles, Airedale, huskies --- and I was worried about finding a good breeder for GSDs. It's much easier now with the internet. Plus I've got the room and the time. Waiting to hear from a breeder in Colorado, and glad to have more information before talking to them. Thank you for the video. I agree with keeping the bloodlines; you'll have more diversity then, instead of having everything focused on one or two
Beautiful I have a Czech shepherd dog I’m glad you telling this because you are 100% correct. Let’s hope that more breeders like you keep them alive and healthy and Pure!!
I don't believe that can be done - with minor exceptions, via the still existing ddr dogs, coming mainly from one bloodline. But other than that, the cz and ddr lines are hugely washes out and you can't turn things around. The LSZS influence is huge, simply huge. But at the end of the day that shouldn't be a thing. If or when you get a gsd, just offer him or her the best possible life and enjoy its presence, regardless of bloodlines.
@angrywolverine6749, I have news for you, your Czech German Shepherd is no different than a showline German Shepherd. DDR or Czech is just marketing bull-sh*t. What is important is the breeder that you go to and the dog itself. The name DDR or Czech has nothing to do with it or what country the dog comes from.
My son and I co-own a 50% DDR pup. Almost 7 months old. The rest is 1/4 Czech and 1/4 West German lin es. She is a lot of dog. Her breeder is local for us and will be expecting a pure DDR litter sometime in 2024. Her DDR dogs are Enno Stasi line dogs. Very impressive. She is doing Penn hips for hip dysplasia. Our dog is currently at a trainer due to being too much dog. She has a home for life. I love that dog and she guards me.
I have a VEOs shepherd, his dad was all black and was a police K9. The Hungarian breeders told me that his line was smuggled out of Russia, im pretty sure hes a decendant of the russian breeding programs. He is very protective, large, massive neck and tail. They crossbred Laikas, Mollosers, and Ovchakras to get them larger and to survive cold. Mine is fearless. He thrives in the snow and mountains, and loves my daughters to death. I knew his name before i got him and his companionship is a gift. Im so proud of him.
These are GREAT dogs! Sadly often times people hold on to bloodlines originating in the DDR exclusively and not trying to breed for the characteristics of the dogs themselves. If people don‘t stop that type of breeding behaviour we‘ ll be hard pressed in finding good dogs… honestly we‘re already there today
I agree 100% with my Czech DDR dog she is the best dog I’ve ever had and I’ve had two other German shepherds and I agree don’t worry about drive just enjoying your dog
I presently have a GDR that replaced a west German standard that unfortunately lost a fight with cancer. As you indicated they are 2 very different animals and personalities. The west German for instance did not play well with others. In fact he was kind of an ass hole to be honest. The DDR is much more social with much less prey drive. That is until someone he doesn't know tries to come into my house, or tries to get too close to me. At that point he quickly regresses to a very protective fur covered bag of razor blades. One of the best dogs ive ever had. I forgot to mention, he's also a rescue.
I have 4 dogs, all rescues. I have little tolerance for people who are unwilling to give dogs the love and attention that they need. "The more I know about people, the more I like my dog, and he bites"
Very nice video! This is exactly what my breeder told me last week. The DDR lines has almost no genetic diversity anymore. Their (my breeder) dogs are mostly old west German lines with maybe 25% east. My dog is west lines and he is like you say very very driven but thank God very stable and has a clear off button.
I've found some very reputable breeders in Canada that have East German lines. When I got my girl I looked for almost 2 years. The people I got her from imported both parents from East Germany. Most seem to mix the East German with Czech.
My first GSD was East German working lines in 1980. They were still great dogs then. German hasn't protected their heritage. I import from The Czech Republic now.
I have 2 Czech Shepherds. Sable, very active but calm. I keep them both indoors, close to me. They're not as protective as my Rottweiler, but definitely let me know of possible threats. One of them, "Kamikaze" loves to be by me at all times, she wants attention all day! I cannot love her enough! Sweetheart of a dog with all humans when she gets to know them, but a menace with other dogs/animals. I often wonder if she's not Czech at all? Thank you for the video and information on this beautiful breed❤
I have watched this same video for 4 years now. I once wanted to get a puppy from this canine, but it took me a long time to convince the owner that I was serious. He said that it would be an honour for me to have one of his dogs as my partner at work. But COVID-19 hit hard, and It all went down the drain, all my planes, financial and personal, went to shambles. I lost my job, and the means to care for such generics the proper way. We never spoke again. I like dogs with substance, square head and strong bones, I never thought of a shepherd in terms of agility, or the so-called now days, “versatility”; a term use to discriminate shepherds from the Malinois shepherd, meaning speed physical traits. Which gives the Malinois the advantage. When the real significance of the word versatility, in the dog world, is to describe what a GSD is capable of doing.
The East German Shepherds are the purest and best dogs I know. I am East German and grew up on the border. I personally experienced how the dogs were trained by the military and it was unforgettable.
I recovered a german shepherd, I believed it was a standard showtime. The older it got the more folks (8/10) people assume it's a Mal, however after multiple DNA tests and research I realized it's just a czechoslovakian shepherd. Very hard mask fairly short haired and a good bit smaller and leaner. This dog will take commands all day, and then some (often times until 4 am) there is simply no turning it off. It's very clear she's genetically different than the standard German shepherd dogs Very similar to the one you have shown (Sable looking one)
i had a dog that did the exact same thing with the plastic bottles cap first lol. I too got tired of buying toys for him to destroy and just saved him bottles and he was so happy lol. Dogs dont always require the expensive option to be happiest
Dogs are fiercely loyal and will obey the groomers. Professional handlers are best for dogs who are required for protection. All my love for the dog for it is my only friend.
How great to hear you out in this video! I wonder, is the black German prone to any more diseases or ataxy higher risk than other large dogs or GSD? I am looking at a black GSD puppy now, both parents are cleared from typical joint health issues... the mother been used to breed police and military dogs in Denmark and is a working line, the father is also a working line. but what to consider as potential issues coming from labrador, Australian shepherds and Border Collies, - what should I make sure to look for to make sure he does not get any typical problems for a black GSD in life later on? - and what to make sure I take care of while he grow up now the first part of his life, so he become as mentally stable and calm to work with me in spite of guns, fireworks or screaming people , aggressive people, or anything that can scare a dog otherwise if around them? -what can I focus on training him in the first few months in life to give him the best chance to become a personal protection dog? ... thanks for getting back!
We are talking genes, we can never pin point what is ahead. You can use the healthiest parents and still have issues in the produced pups down the line, simply because of genes. That's where breeders with healthy brains do their job and their best to avoid health issues. I am saying that because some major problems - like bloat and HD will likely always hunt the GSD. And Labradors and etc, generally the medium to large breeds. I guess your best thing is to look at what those two specific dogs have produced already. It's like reading the reviews before you buy, as opposed to getting caught by what it says on the tin, as they say.
@@SimplicityForGood I was suggesting that you try and find info/feedback on the pups the two dogs have already produced and this way you know what to expect.
I served with the US 2nd Cavalry on the Iron Curtain during the Cold War. There were several checkpoints where we would see DDR German Shepherds chained to trees and they were pretty nasty. Story was, they were fed raw meat once a week.
In my part of the world when I was a younger man I was given a few examples of a family line of hounds. They were amazing dogs , a reflection of what they were bred for as the United States was coming into it's own. Hard , serious hounds with intelligence and a fast paced calmness if you can understand. These dogs are all gone now, bloodlines watered down with the latest fad to come along because the hunting they were masters of has gone away. Years later I had some quarter horses from a similar situation gentle, large heavy boned powerful working horses they are not gone but numbers are low & time is short as ranching changed & a different style of horse fell into fashion through marketing. These are deeply sad things that only certain types of people understand & feel . Please work these dogs - often - because if the work survives it will preserve the very things inside these dogs that make them so special. I can tell you understand what responsibility is in front of you and I wish you luck with it
it's genuinely comforting when reading this, because not many understand what's going on. It's not just the GSD but the working breeds and based on what you say, it applies to other animals, too.
@@DDRGermanShepherdDog yes sir, living history in your hands. I believe certain people are selected to preserve it & I am glad you realize what you have been chosen to preserve. The old way of life is slipping out of our hands once gone never to return and there's a few wise enough to see it & fewer yet responsible enough to do something about it. May God bless you
@@Yelladog78 while I appreciate your very kind feedback, I must say I would not have the rarest bloodline right in front of me, had it not been for my friend and mentor, John LaTorre. I deserve none of any potential praise, it all goes to him.
Until you share life with a DDR GSD you will never understand.....once I bring them home it's done.....lifetime commitment.....then we see what we got. :)
I have a 7/8 intact DDR … he’s our 5th GSD and I can tell you the breed is VERY different from other GSDs … I can also tell you that this guy was right in his message to just enjoy the dog for what it is, because the bloodline is going away. I personally don’t believe there’s a 100% out there anymore.
Good video. I remember watching it on your old channel. Unfortunately, I see a lot of "DDR" German Shepherds that really have hardly any work ethic and it's mainly due to people breeding their dogs just because they're DDR, and not remembering what made the DDR a DDR. Line preservation can be great, but if people are breeding away from what the line was developed for, can we really even call it the same line? Just my thoughts on your great video.
Very good point you're making. The breed is a working breed and while I understand that individuals stood out in conformation /looks and so the show line developed, things were taken to the extreme where working qualities were covered by looks. Perhaps contrary to popular belief, the ddr dogs were not all excelling in work, there were also the dogs that were bred and promoted for looks but - and this is purely my personal experience with dogs - at least the percentage of dogs excelling in civil drives /real protection, not sport, is higher in the ddr (when compared to west lines). Except for my Jessie who's almost as high prey driven as a west line dog, all my other dogs are/were calmer "by default" but very good home protection dogs. Nala was top, top material, from young age. She reminded me of Ben, my first dog back in the days, Ben was not allowing you to walk up to shake my hand unless he knew you. Nala did the same. Also she was one thick boned gsd, the only other dog I had that was thicker, was Tito.
@@DDRGermanShepherdDog Well said. And when I say work, I mean any sort of work really. A dog doesn't need to have Czech line drives and energy to be successful in doing a job by any means, for example the DDR lines. Even West German Showlines can excel at work getting IGP titles. I've just noticed when browsing around different areas, many of these dogs have no working qualities and its because of they only care about the purity of the line. I've stated earlier that, that is fine to do, but don't sacrifice what the line was bred for, for the preservation of the line. It is good to see your dogs doing some civil work, and showing that they do have the ability to perform what they were bred for.
@@skyforgerpack3645 thank you for putting things out clear and rough. Though there is a fine connection between preserving lines and in doing so, preserving specific (working) qualities. Or else the breed wouldn't be where it's at as we speak. In order to pin down certain qualities, you need to focus on certain bloodlines. Modern breeders (let's call them that) have simply mixed the lines like crazy and outcome is well, what we see nowadays. That said, you try now and nail down certain qualities!! I mean, ok, you will get a nice pup here and there BUT AT THE COST OF HOW MANY PUPS that won't fit the job? And they will end up put to sleep or moved to several homes in the process. Trust me I know what I'm saying. This is one of the reasons I wanted to resume things online, I want to make a few points that will hopefully open some eyes.
How do go about acquiring a strong blood lined Ddr? Ive watch this video many times since last year. And dont know who or how to trust. Living in yorkshire UK Can you send some giudence please
I am on my 6th German Shepherd dog and they are the greatest breed in the world. I know you won't like this comment but all my German Shepherd dogs were are American showline and they were all great.
@@DDRGermanShepherdDog Well! you probably won't like this comment. DDR German Shepherds are just a marketing gimmick. As long as you get a German Shepherd from a good breeder the show line are just as good as the working line.
I have a 2 GSDs one is DDR other is pure Czech. My DDR is more attentive and is extremely hard with other dogs, he only has a few friends that he gets a long but is more gentle with the family, he knows how to be softer. Czech is a bit more opposite he doesn't bark as much but a lot more agile and is nice to us but he's clumsy with people, more forceful. Either way, I love the dynamic personalities they feed of each other together but both require a lot of attention.
My working line GSD hair stands up just on his rear area when I play fetch. Is that normal? Looks like he has a mohawk but just on his hind quarter. Looks funny
I have a Bi-Color working line GSD. I would love to have a DDR GSD and breed it to spread their bloodlines and support your advocacy. Please let me know how can I acquire a DDR GSD here in the Philippines.
I have a DDR rescue i don"t know how old he is or his past. I have had Him for 5 and a half years, he is slowing down. When he is gone a part of me will also die, and leave a huge hole in my heart. He is a gift from God. I should be always be thankful for the time we have together.
How do you know it's a DDR? Heart warming words, this dog deserves you!
They would say "Do you know how much work it takes to train a dog like that?"
He would not move an inch without my uncles command. Super confident, smart, agile, amazing livliness. He was named Cesar and lived like the Roman emperor.
Why would anyone take a good breed and develop breeds with so many health issues? Welcome to USA.
GSD-Greatest, Smartest Dog, God's Security Dog.

I own a 5 year old Sable gsd. I got him in Berlin, Germany. Very loyal protective of my home self and family members. Best dog breed in the world.
I'm glad you got got something good there. Though I'd challenge you to think twice before breeding, if you never did this before.

And by the way, I thought the Lipitzanner is a Romanian breed (Lipițan) but I know pretty much nothing about horses so I'll keep quiet 😂
But yes, I like the way you point out the gene pool element and the structure aspect. I actually want to congratulate you on being among the very few who still see things for what they are. Gene pool and structure to work on have been taken over by money. That's the number one reason things have gotten to where they are, not just when taking GSD's, but most working dog breeds.
I love the horses you mentioned raising.
They are so beautiful and smart. And of course I love the GSD.
Sounds awesome!
My humble thanks 🙏🏻
Would you mind sharing her name?
We thank you for this beautiful video! Keep up the good work

main problem you are facing is keeping a proper genetical diversity. this is a common problem for each pure breed to ensure that you have no overlaps for at least four generations to be able to obtain healthy offsprings.
What will you do when you have reached the closed angle you mentioned? What are your plans after that point?
@@mathurinkerbouchard8931 enjoy the memories maybe
Genetic diversity is not need to have healthy offsprings, this is all a scam.
If you want healthy dogs, just don't feed them on cooked or kibble food, only feed them naturally RAW, so you don't damage their genese, like most of the people does.
And don't use vascines against them off course.
I have my 1st GSD shes half DDR and half west and has a beautiful black and silver coat. Shes a talker, a big talker. Never a dull moment and always a pure joy.

I have a intact male DDR Shepherd. He is my almost constant companion. He is so even tempered that even the local Vet said that he is one of the very few intact male GSD's who they can handle with no problem away from my presence. Both of his parents were imported from Europe.
Great stuff! Can you share his name? Or a link to his pedigree?
We would also be interested in knowing the pedigree. We are looking to breed our female DDR next year. She is imported from Germany and well trained. Lovely dog
I love your puppies and all the dogs you have shown.
I would love one.
My GSD is very long legged and she is big and thick.
She has seizures sometimes.
But we are blessed to afford the meds, and we give her the best life always. And she is protective also.
My prayers always that her issue will stop.
I have been laughed at for that statement.
But she has gone from having clusters and multiple seizures a month, to 1 once and a while.
We love our Bandit.

Absolutely phenomenal, so underrated. I personally love the European Dobermans but the DDR is now my second favorite ❤ wow 😊
And what an amazing breed the Dobermann is, too!! I wonder how things are going temperament wise in that area!
Beautiful animals sir. Thank you for sharing.
I’m glad I stumbled across this one that reaffirms my approach all along:
Dogs are the most wonderful companions that just need the love and nurturing according to their natural temperament.

I live with GSD ten years November. Third in 40 years but first female. Wish I could do it forever.
I have a love and passion for these dogs. I know a lot more but for now that's what I'm willing to say x
Just be a good home for the dog, everything else is negotiable.
Nice work!
Remarkable video.
Yes your description of the DDR indeed indicates the east type (less prey drive etc)
Well done fore taking in a rescue, you must be a fine man and you deserve that dog!
I have 4 dogs, all rescues. I have little tolerance for people who are unwilling to give dogs the love and attention that they need. "The more I know about people, the more I like my dog, and he bites"
I have a 70% DDR shepherd, (sire is 100% ddr), he’s amazing
Great, enjoy her presence!
7:24 so well said!
My GSD is a perfect being- just the way he is.
That says a lot about you. You deserve that GSD!
East or west, the old lines were great!
Where can i get a DDR? Or some close to it.....please make more videos regarding this breed
My first GSD was East German working lines in 1980. They were still great dogs then. German hasn't protected their heritage. I import from The Czech Republic now.
You'll get plenty west blood from the CZ nowadays. I hope you won't import from the biggest kennels, I only had negative experiences with them.
Love my line 5a Stasi kennel confident big boned boy is one next week. Been watching your videos for years on your old channel
Got one, best dog there is.
I have always wanted a DDR shepherd. I almost had one this spring.
Thank you for your feedback and words of appreciation! Sounds like you are doing exactly what's needed, meaning you're enjoying them dogs!
Well. They’re visibly different..
When the real significance of the word versatility, in the dog world, is to describe what a GSD is capable of doing.
great video sir,thank you!
The East German Shepherds are the purest and best dogs I know. I am East German and grew up on the border. I personally experienced how the dogs were trained by the military and it was unforgettable.
Wow, thank you for stopping by to comment! 🙏🏻
It's very clear she's genetically different than the standard German shepherd dogs
Very similar to the one you have shown (Sable looking one)

I wonder, is the black German prone to any more diseases or ataxy higher risk than other large dogs or GSD?
I am looking at a black GSD puppy now, both parents are cleared from typical joint health issues...
the mother been used to breed police and military dogs in Denmark and is a working line, the father is also a working line.
but what to consider as potential issues coming from labrador, Australian shepherds and Border Collies,
- what should I make sure to look for to make sure he does not get any typical problems for a black GSD in life later on?

GREAT DOGS !!!!
I served with the US 2nd Cavalry on the Iron Curtain during the Cold War. There were several checkpoints where we would see DDR German Shepherds chained to trees and they were pretty nasty. Story was, they were fed raw meat once a week.
My dog loved plastic bottles too, that noise that is created when they bite down gives them a lot of pleasure. She also loved her balls.
Was there 2 types of ddr wall dogs?
And where are you located
My Belgian Malinois … watching and eating popcorn
What’s the name of your kennel, and do you ship pups to panama ?
my west working line gsd she is from the militiry is doing the exact same thing white the water bottles she is 10 years old now
How do go about acquiring a strong blood lined Ddr?
Ive watch this video many times since last year.
And dont know who or how to trust.
Living in yorkshire UK
Can you send some giudence please
And thanks for this video
I am on my 6th German Shepherd dog and they are the greatest breed in the world. I know you won't like this comment but all my German Shepherd dogs were are American showline and they were all great.
I totally like your dedication to the dogs, regardless of lineage.
@@DDRGermanShepherdDog Well! you probably won't like this comment. DDR German Shepherds are just a marketing gimmick. As long as you get a German Shepherd from a good breeder the show line are just as good as the working line.
@@freddie3206 Why would you preface your comment like that? Just state that it's your opinion, and leave it like that. There is no need to be rude.
You described it all very nicely, thank you for sharing. Enjoy the dogs!
How does one find a quality DDR puppy with more defense drive and less prey drive?
Well that should go by default (if we're taking east lines). Less prey drive is one of their traits.
So now I am completely confused. My family bred GSD in the UK but I'm now in NZ so no idea what to get
Go for whatever makes your gut tick.
Can they get along with a smaller dog if raised with it from puppyhood
Of course they can.
Not for the dog park ?
My working line GSD hair stands up just on his rear area when I play fetch. Is that normal? Looks like he has a mohawk but just on his hind quarter. Looks funny
my buddy left me after 15 years :( am totally fkup , your dogs looks so beautiful , pupps are insane , love it , is there any possibility to get one ?
So sorry to hear about your loss. No I no longer sell pups. But surely you'll come across a new pup that will fill the empty spot in your heart.
Dani you should make a part 2 to this
Yes I plan to make a part 2 later this year. My desire is to bring closure to things, I got a few things in mind I'd like to share with this world.
@@DDRGermanShepherdDog sounds good 👍
That GSD in this video look like my Bella, she is sable l, adopted her at 2mos old. Sweet, patient and very alert.
Do you have website?
No I took it down several years ago.

Te salut, vecine! Multa sanatate !
What’s a kennel you would recommend since you don’t breed anymore
I'm out of touch with things but when I find some time I will take a look.
I have a Bi-Color working line GSD. I would love to have a DDR GSD and breed it to spread their bloodlines and support your advocacy. Please let me know how can I acquire a DDR GSD here in the Philippines.
I am sure you can find a DDR fairly easily (though mainly line 13A) but I doubt you'll be able at any level to "spread their bloodlines".
