Man United - Arsenal rivalvy in early 2000's was something else. No fake courtesy just pure madness and drama. As a United no other team i wanted to see crash and burn than Arsenal and i bet its vice versa among Arsenal fans. Great time!

Yes the rivalry between these two teams was incredible between 98-04 (and even a bit before and years after). However Arsenals and United’s local rivalries were always Spurs and Liverpool (city came into the picture due to the oil money otherwise they wouldn’t be a massive rival).

Back in the day when there was no social media & the stand out fixture for the season was always Arsenal versus Manchester United......I remember watching Arsenal win the premiership at Old Trafford courtesy of brilliance from Sylvain Woltord combined with Nwankwo Kanu & Fred Ljungberg....Dem days were so special & intense football matches.
Man utd v Arsenal was a much more exiting game than Man utd Vs Liverpool in this era

arsenal united was such a good game back in late 90s - mid 00s. greats games for the neutral
Jens Lehman was so important for Arsenal. Seaman was a better keeper overall but Lehman stepped into his shoes properly

I think lehman was better in certain important games whereas seaman before 1997 was better over a whole season. But already at arsenals second double year 1998 he was over the top. The young austrian keeper manninger was better. Arsène wengers first big mistake to put seaman back in goal after his injury then.

Back in the day when sides had to put in super human performances to even get a point at OT. Referees falling over themselves to award Utd the advantage - giving decisions against them and they never refereed at OT ever again. When you keep transferring across clubs every few years, what rivalry would you care about ? To have a minimal sense of rivalry, you need to play at a club for atleast 5 years. Passion for the game and your team is different than rivalry. Don't confuse the two

I watch this game every time we’re about to play United to get myself into real rivalry feeling.
Ironically, it wasn´t the first time a massive brawl took place in this fixture. Must have been around 1989(probably a 1-1 draw) when a 22-player brawl ignited. I can´t remember the United players involved but Winterburn or Adams were there for Arsenal.

Both captains Vieira and Keane getting sent off. Both conceding a penalty in the final minutes of the game with the scores level. Both would have lost their invincible and treble record winning seasons had both Bergkamp and Van Nistelrooy scored their last minute penalties which would have won their teams the game and both wearing the reverse home and away kits in both games.
