With the Canon C500 Mark II round the corner, they lost me on the no "6K internally or externally for now". I guess it's now also a matter of lenses you already have and the color science you prefer. I'd go Canon for sure also because I don't really mind shooting above 60p right now. Love your review CVP, thank you !
Yeah it's an interesting battle between the two! I will be doing a comparison between the two as soon as I can get my hands on them both. Thanks for watching. Jake
I think it's the far better choice. It's just what Panasonic did with the 5.7K image sensor in the EVA1 - the image is just insanely good coz of downsampling. And to be honest who needs 6K at the moment? And if you really need it for a project then just record externally... you can easily charge the customer the additional costs of renting a recording unit. Everyone will understand. For me this camera might just be what I've been waiting for - Electronic variable ND, full frame sensor and downsampling - YEAH!
yes you are correct, it also does not ship with dci 4k, it will be a firmware update, also S35 100,120p is only through RAW output only. SO 30P Full Frame 4k, 60P APS-H (83% of the FF sensor 4k, All this tells me that the a7siii aint gonna shoot no 6k internal, maybe not even 10bit
Get good microfiber cloths on amazon, i buy 30+ packs of "Magicfiber" Change your cloth after a couple months, the difference is incredible. Give some to family and friends, theyll thank you.
Thnx for the review, but i think its a crippeled camera. Once the c500ii goes down in price... 10ish k$ i will have no hesitation what ill chose. Sony promises firmware updates, but i think it wont be enough.
When you say center scan mode, does that mean you can switch it to super 35mm mode? I have several lenses I would like to use that don't cover full frame.
Is there any roadmap as to when the future firmware updates will be released? it would be great to have an understanding as to how long we would have to wait for some of these important features i.e S35 QFHD 3840 x 2160 120fps, FF FullHD 1920 x 1080 180fps. Thanks, great video!
@@CVPTV I'm going to laugh loudly if the mythical A7 SIII still has 8-bit at 100Mbps max as all of the current A7 variants do. Sony has kind of boxed themselves in with their having to purposely underspec cameras to protect more expensive cameras.
You can think of moving the ISO above it's native rated value as changing the exposure in post, sort of like pushing film stock. At a base of ISO 800, if you set the camera settings to have a "normal" picture viewed through as if it's at ISO 1600 (i.e. meter for 1600, and have your shutter/aperture/NDs set for that accordingly), what you're actually doing is actually underexposing the image by 1 stop (the difference between 1600 and 800), as the sensor data is still read at a sensitivity of 800, but shown to you through a monitor LUT as "1600". These "artificial non-base" ISO values are also commonly referred to as Exposure Index (EI), to distinguish between the sensor's native ISO (defined by physical limitations of the sensor circuits and algorithm readout), and the "ISO" that you wish to rate the camera at while setting exposure. Because it's underexposing by one stop in this example, u lose detail in the shadows correspondingly. The inverse is true if you were to have the camera at a base of ISO 800, but shot through a rated EI of 400, where you will start to lose dynamic range in the highlights and have your whites clip earlier than they would have otherwise.
different kind of cameras basically, apple vs orange. Basically this run and gun camera out of box with confidence and robustness to be used in field. Z Cam and BMPCC, you need to rigged them up first which also cost $$$ but the rig could be too filmsy to be used confidently as run and gun cameras.
@@dayspoiler4608 This camera has a few flaws, like no 4k/60P in FF and a too high price. But how can you even compare a full fame camera with perfect AF, IS and 15 stops of DR with a M43 camera ?

hell, even the s35 alexa only has a usable dynamic range of 14stops, the only cameras that can achieve true 15 stops usable dynamic range, are the arri lf and 65 cameras.

This dude is worth his weight in gold for CVP / the general industry. Love his no nonsense and clear delivery.
A few questions:
1) Can you finally dial in white balance while in SLOG?
2) Is there surround view?
3) Is there a LUT on high speed playback?
8:28 glad to finally see doubled datarates in 60p, often that option is more compressed

This camera looks like a good update to the FS7!! Let us know what you think of the new camera down in the comments below.

that gyro is an interesting way of doing things,
do you think it makes sense for them to move this feature to low end cameras?
I don't see why they shouldn't. Jake
What about the menu system? Is it like the FS7 or VENICE ? or new?
Like the FS7 unfortunately! Jake

could you add a bit more detail on the SLog2 decision - I was just getting to like that.

Serious framerates? The Sony FS700 released 7 years ago can do 120fps 4k (4 sec buffer) Raw output. You are kidding right?
Fx9 also will be able to, after the firmware update
