Instead pull the HDMI cable out to where it accessible from inside the vehicle, and when you use your iphone you may go direct from Apple AV adapter to HDMI. When using your android you may go direct fro USB C to HDMI. This method is the best solution for your case.

When the phone is being mirrored, only what is being played on the phone may be listen to. If you would like to listen to a radio while the map is being navigated through your phone, we recommend to download a radio application on your phone.

I purchased this kit, and installed myself about 2 months ago. This evening it suddenly stopped mirroring my videos. The screen currently displays the blue no input screen? What should I do? Also when it was working, it would freeze every ten minutes. I would have to unplug phone, close app, and re set it all up. Can u help me out?
It sounds like the lighting extension cable failed. Try replacing it with a new one. If that doesn’t work test the Apple AV adapter. If it is not authentic Apple, it will also cause these issues.
Does it keep displaying google maps when you turn off the screen on the phone? it would be useless to display it both on the phone and the screen at the same time, specially with OLED screens and their burn in risks.
The phone screen will have to remain on for the mirroring to take place. Burning image on screen is very unlikely with the current generation phones. You may dim the phone's screen if you are concerned.

You may connect an Apple TV to this kit. However, you will need another separate hotspot in your vehicle for data to Apple TV. Your Iphone will not be able to act as both a controller and internet data source for the Apple TV.
