    Great works! Statins were killing me. I went cold turkey after doing research. How I feel now compared to taking statins is mind-boggling. Intermittent fasting, along with exercise will work wonders.

    I am 68 now. I remember my uncle being put on statins years ago. He told me about this wonder drug he said "I take this and I can eat anything I want". He thought it would protect him from bad health. So I think in some cases statins encourage people not to care about their lifestyle. In my case I came off statins because of the side effects I will take my chances with diet and lifestyle. Having done lots of research since then , eating a low carb diet, walking my dog every day, cycling, my cholesterol is still 'high' according to the tests but I am not worried because I feel great. I will continue to take my chances because I think lifestyle is far more important. I don't trust big pharma because I think they don't really care, they have shareholders who want to make money.

    I’m frustrated as a patient . I was put on a statin about 20 years ago when I was 44 , now after all these years I started thinking they’ve been shoveling statins on me year after year dr after dr , and none of them stopped and checked wether they are doing any good or not.. I’m so frustrated because you have profit and health care in the same sentence., that can’t be good for me as a patient. Now I have type 2 diabetes ED muscle ache , low testosterone as well , just within the last four years. I don’t want to as a patient fight with my dr or tell them their job that’s not my JOB !!!! What do people like me do . Good job getting the information out there .

    Thanks, STEM Talk, and Dr. Diamond! I can’t tell you how important it has been to learn how bad statins can be, and how good cholesterol is, especially for someone my age. Thank you so much!

    My grandmother has severe arthritis and high cholesterol, her Dr put her on lipitor. Her joint pain got really bad and she felt really bad. I read about cbd oil and bought superior hemp oil 1500mg and had her take 5 drops at night. The first morning she said slept great but still felt joint pain. The second day she felt less joint pain and on the third day she was able to take a walk and get some sun (vitamin D). We have since worked on her diet, got her off the lipitor and she has continued to take the cbd oil and her cholesterol has gone down.

      Boron is distributed throughout the body with the highest concentration in the parathyroid glands, followed by bones and dental enamel. It is essential for healthy bone and joint function, regulating the absorption and metabolism of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus through its influence on the parathyroid glands. With this, boron is for the parathyroids what iodine is for the thyroid.
      Boron deficiency causes the parathyroids to become overactive, releasing too much parathyroid hormone which raises the blood level of calcium by releasing calcium from bones and teeth. This then leads to osteoarthritis and other forms of arthritis, osteoporosis and tooth decay. With advancing age, high blood levels of calcium lead to calcification of soft tissues causing muscle contractions and stiffness; calcification of endocrine glands, especially the pineal gland and the ovaries; arteriosclerosis, kidney stones, and calcification of the kidneys ultimately leading to kidney failure. Boron deficiency combined with magnesium deficiency is especially damaging to the bones and teeth.
      Boron affects the metabolism of steroid hormones, and especially of sex hormones. It increases low testosterone levels in men and oestrogen levels in menopausal women. It also has a role in converting vitamin D to its active form, thus increasing calcium uptake and deposition into bone and teeth rather than causing soft tissue to calcify. Also, other beneficial effects have been reported such as improvement of heart problems, vision, psoriasis, balance, memory and cognition.
      The German cancer researcher Dr. Paul-Gerhard Seeger has shown that cancer commonly starts with the deterioration of cell membranes. As boron is essential for cell membranes and boron deficiency widespread, this may be an important cause for the initiation of tumor growth. Boron compounds have anti-tumor properties and are "potent anti-osteoporotic, anti-inflammatory, hypolipemic, anti-coagulant and anti-neoplastic agents"
      Bone analysis showed that arthritic joints and nearby bones had only half the boron content of healthy joints. Equally, synovial fluid that lubricates joints and provides nutrients to the cartilage is boron deficient in arthritic joints. After boron supplementation, bones were much harder than normal and surgeons found them more difficult to saw through. With additional boron, bone fractures heal in about half the normal time in both man and animal. Horses and dogs with broken legs, or even a broken pelvis, have fully recovered. (1)....

      The trace mineral boron is a micronutrient with diverse and vitally important roles in metabolism that render it necessary for plant, animal, and human health, and as recent research suggests, possibly for the evolution of life on Earth. As the current article shows, boron has been proven to be an important trace mineral because it (1) is essential for the growth and maintenance of bone; (2) greatly improves wound healing; (3) beneficially impacts the body’s use of estrogen, testosterone, and vitamin D; (4) boosts magnesium absorption; (5) reduces levels of inflammatory biomarkers, such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α); (6) raises levels of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase; (7) protects against pesticide-induced oxidative stress and heavy-metal toxicity; (😎 improves the brains electrical activity, cognitive performance, and short-term memory for elders; (9) influences the formation and activity of key biomolecules, such as S-adenosyl methionine (SAM-e) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+); (10) has demonstrated preventive and therapeutic effects in a number of cancers, such as prostate, cervical, and lung cancers, and multiple and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma;

    Can I assume the efficacy of statins is still only a small 1% absolute risk in secondary care patients who have already had a cardio vascular event?

    • @SusanBrewerspiritraveler
      @SusanBrewerspiritraveler 4 года назад +3

      You are correct!! But it's "less than 1 percent." Actually it's an Interesting study. The group on placebos actually did better than the control group on statins. The conclusion asserted that patients who believed they were protected can be just as effective for preventing strokes and heart attacks. Since one of the major causes of all disease is stress, then this conclusion also makes sense, at least to me.

    How do I practice medicine give people statins all day long and have researchers tell my I’m harming people.

    And millions of Asians eat bowls of rice all day and are healthy.

    • @thomasemberson8021
      @thomasemberson8021 7 лет назад +5

      Without fail, populations that eat ancestral diets are not metabolically broken. And those populations that you generalize, eat vegetables, meat, and very little bread, sugar and vegetable oils.
      You can not for any equivalence between the western diet of high carbohydrates in the form wheat, corn and sugar products, and absolutely not ancestral vegetable oil, to that of ancestral asian cultures.

    • @iArrivall
      @iArrivall 7 лет назад +7

      1. Many Asian nations consume MUCH less food than Western nations, as well as exercising much more as well, as they usually tend to walk everywhere and take public transport as well as work strenuous jobs.
      2. They eat much more than JUST rice, it's a silly misconception most people have that all Asians eat is rice, but they eat a lot of unprocessed foods, fats from fish (Heard of sushi? Shrimp? Calamari?) vegetables, soups etc. So they aren't eating ONLY rice, they're consuming it usually in smaller portions accompanied by other food sources.
      3. The misconception that Asian countries are perfectly healthy eating the way they do is entirely wrong, in fact Asian countries actually contribute to more than 60% of the world's diabetic population as stated in this study: ( www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3382707/ ) and the epidemic is getting worse, this is accompanied by rising obesity rates stated here: ( www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2939400/ ) as well. While I believe ancestral background somewhat plays a role in how you are able to process certain foods compared to other, you can't run from simple biology. Obesity and diabetes is not just contained to the US, as we have had a large say so in the worlds health regulations for a long time, many of the reccomendations followed by our country are picked up by others as well, so back when we demonized saturated fat, much of the world followed suit, similar things happened with the criminilization of Marijuana but that's a whole other rabbit hole. Obesity and diabetes is a GLOBAL problem, that can for the most part be solved by changes in diet and better regulations. Do a quick Google search before you make crazy, uninformed claims to justify terrible eating patterns.

      Rice has a relatively low carbohydrate density (See Ian Spreadbury's paper for details). That is, it isn't absorbed rapidly into the bloodstream compared to flour, sugar and other powdered substances (milk derivatives, protein products derived from vegetable matter).
      It's sugar and flour that's the problem.Always was, always will be. The industrial seed oils are another toxic component that has flown under the radar as everyone became distracted by the indictment of animal product.
      Sugar, flour, industrial vegetable oils. Get them out of the diet and see how health improves effortlessly.

      China has clise to the highest diabetes rates in the world so stfu.
      Rice like all grains is converted to glucose so stfu. Small amounts eaten with high fiber foods is tolerable. Large amounts eaten alone contribute to disease
