ok
i doubt u will reply to this but any ideas for a $50 budget thats hotwsappable 75 percent and soundw nice stock and also i like the sort of arrow keys layout on gmmk pro but not the one joined like any normal key so if u find something that will help loads 😅
Blue Cat keycaps link just brings you to the NJ80 btw. Thanks for the reccomendations!
@HistoryFacts he said he didn’t know
hey bro could you get me a keybored because i have a really bad keybored and my mum cant afford a good one -chiptune
13:17 I can confirm I joined the discord to ask about keycaps and instantly like 5 people started helping me with keycaps and websites to find them and I ended up finding a set I really like from one of the websites
after reading your comment i joined the server. and the people are amazing. i asked for good silent switches and got like 15 suggestions and alternatives. its truly amazing. they helped me choose one (gazzew bobagum silent :D )
Its honestly probably the most wholesome kind discord community ive ever come by

for the most thock, use a keyboard with a plastic case like the kbd67 lite, a brass weight, a polycarbonate top plate, any switch with a full nylon housing and POM stem, and SA profile pbt keycaps, and the softest gaskets you can find.
I started with a NJ80 about a year ago, it was a nice board at the time but I would get a Keychron V1 if I were starting now. Went through several cheap custom boards till I figured out what layout I liked and have now settled with a Keychron Q8, I love Alice layouts.
bro spending 200$ on a keyboard is not normal
@@donernesto1174 kinda is
@@donernesto1174 you know you’re on a keyboard channel right?…
What palm rest for alice ?
@@donernesto1174 bruh 200 is budget in custom keyboard world
Just jumped into this world very recently. So glad you made this video!
100% can confirm building first and future custom keyboards are a blast especially with a lil Hipyo playing in the background for support.
It may take just 2 hours to physically build... but it'll probably take weeks or even months to optimize the keymap. That's the beauty of custom boards though... they can be customized to each person's individual needs.
This is an example of toxic productivity.
Optimized for what exactly? If you are spending that long just trying to optimize, then how much work are you getting done?
I’m not trying to mock your hobby. I use Linux, and every month or so I change desktop environment and “optimize” it. Just trying to share a different perspective.
@@dstinnettmusic It doesn't take long in terms of minutes... just reassign a key once in a while when the need arises. But it's a thing people tend to keep coming back to, as they find new ways to improve it.
As a small example, I press Shift+Insert a lot to paste text in X11 programs like urxvt. But the two keys are far apart and not in the most convenient places. So I mapped a key for it, and now pasting text is really easy. A couple minutes spent to improve a thing I do a hundred times per day... seems like time well spent.
As another example, I sometimes want Vim-like macros in other programs. So I assigned a pair of keys to QMK's macro-record and macro-play functions, and now I can use macros absolutely anywhere. Super handy.
Does this make sense?
that just turned me off from getting into it honestly
@@Nootlest It can be a very deep rabbit hole. It doesn't have to be, though. People only have to go as deep as they feel is necessary.
Im convinced that keyboard hobbyists sniff the most copium out of all hobbies. They spend so much time and money on devices that are so cut down on features and they think its beautiful.
I was looking at the different sizes of keyboards trying to figure out what works best for me. And now I’m on a journey to make my own custom keyboard because of this channel 😂
Thanks for this bro. I’ve been interested in building for years now but I dont know where to start. I remember doing research years ago but it was pretty difficult to find guides like these. Now I might be able to actually get into it more.
just for anyone who wants to know "budget" to enthusiasts apparently means $165+
the keyboard they built in this vid is probably somewhere around $200 to $250
Normally a custom keyboard goes for 250-400$.
@@carnifpsgod9383 and a keyboard that does its job is like $30.
@@theastuteangler You could probably say that about any hobby.
If you don't want to spend on keyboards, then a $30 is enough.
But the same way I ain't only gonna get a $300 PC, I ain't picking up a fucking Logitech Romer-G, no sir
@@burningscarlet that's all fine and dandy, but the word "budget" doesn't belong anywhere near this video
@@theastuteangler So if I buy a $2000 dollar car, it's not considered budget?
Budget to enthusiasts in the genre, not the general public.
i just finished a NJ-80 and it was really deep too with the Aqua Kings. glad others like that board too.
I was watching ig keyboard videos and came to youtube and I came across your videos. I ABSOLUTELY love your style of videos. It was fun and easy to follow. You both were hilarious! Thank you for making your videos-you got a new subscriber here!
Having a volume knob has become a prerequisite for any keyboard I might buy. In the past, I never considered buying any keyboard that isn't the full layout with a num-pad (mostly since some older games used to use those keys on PC and in some cases it wasn't feasible to rebind the key(s).) but nowadays I almost never use my num-pad and it sure would free up some desk space for me. TKL and even 75% boards are starting to look much more appealing to me...
Take the 65% pill.
The Keychron V2 looks pretty cool. Although I have to admit I prefer the NJ-80 layout, I'm not too fond of the arrow keys separated from the others by a divisor.
@@sousuzumi I sure do love not being able to quicksave in games
@@Legoman1352 if your only use of an entire row of keys is to quicksave (and maybe quickload) a game, you may be happy to know that a 65% keyboard has access to the F keys through a function key.
@@sousuzumi That's ridiculously inconvenient and very much not quick. I genuinely don't understand what benefit you get by removing 1cm off the top of the keyboard. (Tbh, I also don't understand how people use KB without numpad, but that's down to personal preference and does save a lot of space)
@@Legoman1352 numpad is only for accountants and other work related reasons. It takes so much space and I never use it. Same for the F row. I have a 60% but I'm planning to upgrade to a 64%
love the final color layout!
10:52 This is like my 3rd time watching this video that was a sick edit so clean i didnt even notice it till now how clean it was
6:07 I was NOT expecting a Club Penguin throwback in a keyboard video, damn I feel old 💀
FINALLY HIPYO REVIEWS THE NJ80
Thanks man, I am looking to build a keybord as a medical student, typing all day for recalls is fun, but can be way more !! thank you ❤
def look into custom keymaps; find a keyboard that is VIA compatible to make it super easy to customize your layout. If you find you're pressing "ctrl+shift+insert" a lot, for example, you can map that to single key.
Cute end result to the NJ80!
I'm very new to all this. I've heard the term "bent pins" often in watching keyboard vids, and how bad it would be to have one, but I didn't understand what could happen. Such great info and content in your vids. Thank you!
Good thing you knew about it beforehand, cuz I had to learn it in the hard way 😵💫
@@user-ck4fm7os1w Oh no. That doesn't sound good. 😱 I hope it all turned out well in the end!
Generally you can bend it back straight therefore no problem. Pin snapping off is the real issue here.
switches have 2 pins in the back. if u put them in the keyboard and one of the pins is bent it is most likely to snap off and then the switch is useless but if its just bent u can check it and fix it
Jeremy seems like such a fun friend to have!
im excited to hear it!
I really appreciate this transition 10:51
Literally bought those wuque aurora switches yesterday, cant wait for them to come
How are your videos so good? Hahaha
I can't believe I've been 23 years of my life without this
Jeremy's energy is amazing, great video - many tips taken from this video :D
I’m new here! I love your content! Because of you I now want a custom keyboard!
Wow ! I've been meaning to get a nice SILENT keyboard. I've always been fascinated at all these pretty keyboards and after watching this video, I may take the plunge !! Thinking about joining your discord :)
I'm doing a full silent build with a Keychron Q3 that's all black and using TTC Frozen Silent switches over the weekend, I'll post a sound test if you're interested!
@@peterklick2385 Hey there! Thanks for the response, just saw it. How's your keyboard going? I'd totally love a sound test!
Do it! I'm also on the silent keyboard roll, and currently have 2: One with Gazzew Boba 4U switches and one with Otemu Silent Sky. Both are tactile and lubed. Random comments from the office where I use Boba U4: "It sounds like heavy rain on a window when you type" and "It's so pleasant to listen to. Like galloping horses in the distance"
Good luck on your keyboard journey!
I've got the exact same wallpaper on my work laptop!!! Good choice.
8:18 “light layer of brush” amazing
This is the best looking keycaps I've seen so far in my life.
Hi Hipyo! I'm looking into buying and putting together my first keyboard and have found your videos super helpful! I was wondering what switches you used for this build? And additionally, are the Wuque switches similar configuration to the Cherry MX switches? The keycaps I'm thinking of picking up say that they're Cherry MX or 'clone' compatible and I'm not really sure what that means. I'm hoping to find a good linear switch set that is pre-lubed
I liked this episode. More Jeremy keyboard adventures please.
Wholesome Hipyo moment
what a delightful laughter that lad has!
The video we needed
Congrats on 500k 🎉🎉
Ordered the blue key caps! They look awesome
i think i want a 75 with those caps and a silent, low pitch THOCK sound profile. he basically made the keyboard I want just a little smaller
This might be my favourite video yet
Cool looking keys, the cool ones used on IBM Selectric typewriters. :-)
God bless.
10:49 i just felt disoriented with the closset transition to the next shot hahahaha nice one 🤣
Yooooooo you have my same exact background!!! That's amazing
The Keydous NJ80 is an awesome budget keyboard! I'm typing on mine right now. Picked it up from Drop a couple months ago and I've been thoroughly impressed with it.
A moment of silence to bros that paid like $100+ for a NJ80 when they find out the Lychee and Dukharo version is less than $100 😂
@@chiizuu752 I didn’t pay $100 for the NJ80 but I would if it did. It’s a darn good keyboard.
I looooove this vid! Thanks so much!!!

jeremy is so kyute :3 love the thumb nail polish!
Gotten myself the NJ81 love it
The Akko Mod 008 is another excellent option.
This video is so thocking great.
Step 1.5: If you only have two hours, don't choose a GMMK Pro, too many screws and fiddling with stabs. Yes, I'm salty ... don't ask me how I know.
This was really fun to watch lol. It makes me want to build a custom keyboard on my own someday.
aaaaaand I finally did lol

@@ispy4194 it was awesome, I bought the Gamakay LK67. Found out that you need to be really careful opening that board, otherwise it could potentially break off the switch. But yeah, overall process of building my 1st keyboard took 7.5 hrs XD
where did you get Keyboard #5 from? I really love the sound it makes and would love to get one! or even a similar one, what switches does it have?
I think building a keyboard will always be super fun if Hipyo is with us in the room.
3:50 "Ohhhh" 3 way confetti facial. LOZ!
Hey hipyo, im curious on what you think about the MSI Vigor GK30. Maybe you could even do a vid about it idk and maybe if I’m lucky enough maybe fix it.

dude we got same wallpaper. love it!!
I remember putting a pen spring on caps lock way back then lol
OMG this hack ^ lol
My keychron V1 just came today. I put my modded EG Aqua king switches in and my keycaps and it sounds really good. it has THOCCC! the best part is i still haven't modded the V1 itself
im just so invested into keyboards now
This was much help!!
Cool video man. Lol. Would like to do something like this and just try to do my own Amazon only thing just for fun and cheap.. kinda like you did.
You should do a review of the epomaker ep84 pro upgraded and te epomaker theory th80
got my first keyboard, Wooting 60HE on the way soon! gonna put it in a Tofu base
My first mechanical keyboard was the razer blackwidow chroma v2, which is severely clicky, and i had it for a couple years before now a month ago i bought my second one with linear switches.. and i hate it. I miss the tactile part of my old keyboard but not the sound, so i have now ordered tactile switches and am really excited to try them. From what i’ve gathered tactile switches is the middle ground, so for beginners my very unprofessional opinion is to choose tactile switches, because its actually good for typing swell
My favourite keyboard i’ve used is surprisingly the apple magic keyboard, which is probably horrible to you enthusiasts but the feel is lovely to me
hey its ok! just please change your mind... OR ILL COME AND FIND YOU (this was a joke please don't take it seriously)
@@Leherie optical switches are the most versatile imo, maybe for gaming linear is better but no way in hell did i enjoy typing on a linear keyboard
I loove that color scheme and keycaps, would they work for a k8 pro?
Thocking awesome.
The first Keyboard I will be building is the Viterbi Keyboard - 5x7 70% Split Ortholinear. I will be using the Gateron G Pro yellow switches. And I will be 3d printing the case with PLA and 3d printing the keycaps with resin (still debating on how I want the case and keycaps to look).
Hi, I'm new to this. But what are the types of switches they use to make those very quite but nice solid sound keyboard?
Making somebody get into Mech Keyboards in an hour and a half is like asking the intern for those TPS reports. It can definitely be done, but should it? With all the space on my TKL, why is it that only 75%'s get to have fun with the knobby bits?
My zoom65 has a knob. So not just 75s
Too cool now i have to sub
thanks, my new keyboard specs are
keyboard : GMK67
switches : Milky Yellows, also lubed
keycaps : Translucent black keycap cherry profile, and ect
mods : the GMK67 already came with mods so checkmark. and saw that the stabilizers came pre lubed, thats nice!
HELLO hipyo . Will you review the Shelby 80?

I appreciate the sneaky Club Penguin moment in there
I like the way these keyboards feel but I’m not spending that much time building it. I wish though kind of fun
greetings from Malaysia, still very new to this keebs communities but i would love to see you build a wood kayboard, with wood keycaps
Hey Hipyo. Can you do a video about YMDK 68 CNC Barebone Kit? As this is the first kb i have seen for 80 dollars for full aluminum case
6:07 the club penguin pizza builder 😭 recognized that instantly haha
It’s so cute I want one !
i love his laugh😂
I wish I had you as a friend so I can try out these keyboards
My mans picked the same keyboard I put together! I used holy pandas and used pudding cap keys for highlighting game movement keys
i love your commentary
He has that Spiderman’s friend vibe. I like that 👍
Hey Hipyo,
I would really like a custom keyboard, but I couldn't find a keyboard.
I currently use the Corsair K70 Mk.2 low-profile and if possible, I wanted to have a keeb with:
TKL, low-profile, white (if possible) and a volume scroll/knob for multimedia and if possible wireless
I couldnt find anything and ended up pre-ordering the Razer Deathstalker TKL, which ticked every box except the color.
I know it's very overpriced for 200, yet it's the only thing that comes close to what I would like.
Corsair released a TKL version of the K70, but those are not LP.
Good video, I enjoy your shorts on keebs! :)
I relate to Jeremy’s “what games do you play?” “?????”
2:21 I like how you didn't even mention clickies lmao
I wanna build a keyboard and thank u for helping to guide me (:
Seeing that brush made me almost spit out my coffee I was drinking
i m not buying any keyboard i m just addictive to watch keyboard videos
The Glarses jingle kills me every time.
What Wallpaper is on your 2nd monitor? I really like it.

eyyy blue cat v2 keycaps right there :p
Sorry off topic but how do you like your Tannoy Golds? I've wanted a set since release but can't find anywhere to try them.
This kit may be from the same OEM of Lychee G80/Dukharo v80. It looks and sounds the same at stock. Amazing kit for the price
