I "met" Derek Klena through a zoom meeting for school and then later he came to my art school, i didn't get to see him in person but i was able to ask him a question in the zoom call. I started with Mr. Klena, and he responded, "No, please call me Derek", such an down to earth dude. Overall, such an upstanding citizen, amazing singer and actor!
I like how they changed it just enough to make the ending to the musical sad but triumphant in a 'I loved and was loved in return' sense as opposed to the ending of the musical which went from the triumph of the play to the sadness of Satine's death where it ends with what he told us in the beginning 'The woman I loved is dead'. Originally the script had him ending his book not with 'a story about love. A love that will last forever', but with 'I started to write. I started to live again.' I don't remember if they had it ending with Christian singing 'The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return' but it was a good line to end the movie on. It summarises the fact that this is a tragedy - a flamboyant, colourful tragedy but still a tragedy. But here ending with 'Come What May' they're taking the lines from David Bowie's song and are turning it around - he's saying 'I learned the greatest thing there is to learn, I loved and was loved in return, and I will not let death rob me of my triumph or her of memory'.
Well, in the movie he may not say it but even when I watched it as a kid I realised the subtle ways in which you see that, as he writes the story, Christian is reassembling himself. In the end, he looks clean, the room is tidy, the colors are warm again. It will always be more muted (the pain and love still there) but writing had a therapeutic effect on him. At the beggining he looked destroyed; in the end, he looks sad, but... you can see, you can feel, he'll live on. For her. All understandable because of the colour, composition and characterisation. I thought it was brilliant. :D
i’ve seen moulin rouge twice, first time i saw it was in june second was a week later. i saw derek and jo-jo the first time and obviously i cried because moulin rouge is my FAVORITE musical and i can’t sit through it without crying and the second time i saw Aaron (not tveit) and JoJo because Derek was out (this was the day before father’s day) i saw them both a week apart and both were amazing and i think derek was an amazing fit for the role of christian and this video was amazing
i know right. i just learned literally 1 minute ago that he took over after Aaron and i NEED to find a recording of him doing roxanne. Literally he and aaron are two of my top three favorite broadway guys 😭😭
Can someone please explain to me why JoJo and Derek are leaving Moulin Rogue? They both seem so perfect for the roles and I hate they’re getting replaced

It's hard to leave people alone because they want to have a normal life. They don't believe in magic. Without the help it needs.
i so badly wish i was an adult with adult money to watch him :((((
please do Jojo's as well!
Sorry but I think my phone glitched and made this clip 36 minutes long instead of 36 seconds… anyone else experiencing this?? 😩😂🔥
