- Diving into the current issue with the 1960 Panhead. The current coil is the wrong ohm for this setup and needs to be changed. I am also changing the ignition switch, plug wires and petcock. I did find that the fuel filter was clogged and there was rust in the tanks that needed to be removed.
In the end the issue was with the Mallory ignition module. It was intermittently working. Thanks to my buddy at Steves Antique Auto Repair for helping me out and getting this fixed. The link to his page is below, give him a follow.

SWEET PANHEAD OF YOURS THANSK FOR SHARING KEWL
Thank you! And thanks for watching
I used to have one of those old white seats like you got on the wall. Years ago I sold it
I’ve had quite a few of them. This one I’m hanging onto. May put it on something eventually
If I remember right the originals now I don't know about the replacement but you can take them apart and clean the contacts put it back together
Unfortunately the module wasn’t able to be cleaned and had to be replaced.
I'm questioning about grounding the switch is all it does is switch power. Unlike sometimes today when you have low voltage from a computer you can switch the ground or the switched side could be the positive. Just thinking
See. I wasn’t totally sure what the issue was. Just chasing all the ideas and sifting through the madness
I think I paid 27 bucks. For my switch for my shovel head it didn't come with the key so I thought well had. Just got it the other day some of them I seen said the screws were smaller than normal. At least this one had high marks and the screws with a wiring connect seem to be regular size
There are some deals on eBay when it comes to these switches. I just wanted one with keys.
Chevys in their first h e i distributors and that module and I have them go out. Friend of mine bought a brand new one for his 74 Monte Carlo The whole distributor and it didn't take long that module went out so we put an old one OEM and it's been fine ever since yeah them modules and and they all that module does need to have that goop underneath I think it's to help with heat saturation or migration away from the module
I guess this is a common issue. These things work until they don’t and there doesn’t seem to be a reason or expected length of time before needing to be replaced
I tried one of those anti-gravity batteries but it floated off ..and I never did find it ..
lol
I'll stick with a gravity battery😮😂
😂 good thing mine is tied in nice and tight!
