I'm consistently impressed by how bad DC movies look in the year of our lord 2023. Obviously the bad CG that makes up 98% of the visuals in the film is a prime contributor but shout outs to the editing and cinematography also being uniformly unpleasant to look at in almost every shot of every one of these movies. It's like DC set out to make anti-movies.
I think they're trying too hard to make them look overly cinematic lol. Like they try SO HARD to make them look epic, perfect, and "stunning" that they just look like trash. There's such a thing as too much effort 💁♀️
The sad part is you can absolutely make CG look good and have a good looking mostly CG movie. It just takes time and effort. And studios HATE listening to CG effect departments when they very reasonably say that they need more time and money to make the movie look good.

The newer Suicide Squad movie was great, but part of why it's good is that it's not TRYING to be a DC movie, right? It's just being its own thing. You can't compete with Marvel and nobody really wants more Marvel stuff right now. So just make weirdo one-off films with unique fresh takes on these characters like Joker or Shazam and just be the more indie-feeling lower budget Superhero studio that doesn't play things as safe.
I feel like Adam could make a whole separate video just laughing at those fake clickbait trailers. The funniest thing to me was seeing thumbnails for movies nobody is asking for, like "yet another Terminator sequel with old Arnold", or "Titanic 2, Jack comes back from the dead", or the live-action Moana remake with The Rock.

I still don't see how much of threat that Black Manta really going to pose to Aquaman. Aquaman got a big power up with the gold trident and the Orange armor in last movie. He beat him unarmed and in street clothes the first time. Black Manta is just a guy in a mech suit. Unless there is a second secret villain Aquaman should be able to beat him pretty easy.
@@ammagon4519 They should have went with the Young Justice animated design and make the helmet smaller. In that show the helmet is around the size of an astronaut helmet and the eye lenses are a narrow diamond shape. Looks way more practical than what is in the movie.

A movie that had its own history of being stuck in Development Hell, it could give The Flash and Matt Reeves The Batman a run for their money (don’t even bother asking if this movie is in the DCEU or the rebooted DCU at this point, it doesn’t matter anymore. This movie exists in a awkward void of what could’ve been if the merger never happened and if James Gunn didn’t take over completely).
Matt Reeves’s The Batman is it’s own standalone universe. No connection to the DCEU or Gunn’s DCU whatsoever. Same with Joker and it’s upcoming sequel, those are set in their own universe as well.

Deathstroke was gonna be the villain, Batgirl was gonna be in it (Keep in mind, this was years before that Batgirl solo movie was made only to get cancelled), and it was gonna have a fight scene at Arkham Asylum a la Arkham Origins. But Ben Affleck left the whole DCEU in general, then that position was given to Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson and here we are.

Poor Things has been receiving rave reviews from film festivals and said to be one of this years big Oscar contenders. Also hearing him and Mark Ruffalo might both get nominated in Supporting Actor as well as Emma Stone winning a second Oscar. With the amount of bad buzz in Aquaman 2 from reshoots and delays, Amber Heard controversy and being the final DCEU film. Even if the first film made a billion dollars worldwide, I don’t see it being as big as a financial hit as its predecessor. I have a feeling Willem Dafoe dodged a bullet.

Adum is the first human being other than myself I've heard point out the abs thing for costumes. I hate it so much, but I hate people's justifications more. "Dude it's his abs, that's what they look like, they're bulging out the suit" and whenever you start breaking down how wrong it is, they turn to... you guessed it: "Dude it's just a movie, just turn your brain off, don't think about it."
The only reasonable argument for abs in armor is that there is some historical precedent for it, primarily from archaic Greek muscle cuirasses. They looked silly back then, and they look silly now in modern media, btu I suppose there's some justification in the Aquaman movie for Atlantean armor because Atlantis and the various underwater cultures are meant to be vaguely Greek-coded I guess? That aside, I still totally agree with you, muscle armor is dumb.

Being the king of this civilization actually means dealing with political stuff that could be allegories for real-world foreign policy, that's way more interesting feeling." Like... if we're adapting these comics.... maybe we shouldn't be taking less interesting elements and doing them in the most stock generic way possible...??? @@dracocrusher I was more referring to the old old stuff, where Manta's main motivation kind of was just hatred for a long time, Aquaman was a happy family man until Manta's aforementioned hatred reached a boiling point, and plots in general were much more simplistic and generic. Now, there is a good way of doing such things, and a bad way, and the trailer seems to show off the bad way. I would love for the movie to be a throw back to those types of antics, but it seems it only got the surface level stuff and didn't bother to go further than that. Now, I can't say that for certain without seeing the full movie, but it looks that way.

Nobody makes a Batman movie by making it a goofy story about Batman wearing rainbow outfits even though it's literally canon to the comics. You go for the stuff that you can make a good compelling story out of. @@dracocrusher Firstly, Silver Age zaniness is almost never boring. It's simpler, goofy, and often seen as cheesy by many nowadays (even though it really isn't), but not boring. That stuff can make for a fun movie, and even a good movie (look at Batman '66, Superman '78, Superman II, all with more simplistic plots, but still with good stories, good writing, and good performances), but it can also be made into something awful (Superman IV, Trial of the Incredible Hulk, etc.). You can make a compelling story out of that stuff, if you try. Second, do they really need more going for them? Also, classic Manta does have charisma, it's just that his motivation is simple, pure hatred. It's part of what makes him interesting. Instead of being someone who harms ocean life in some way, someone who commits crimes at sea, or Aquaman's jealous brother, Manta goes out of his way to hurt Aquaman. Yes, at first he was a thief, a pirate of the modern age, but that quickly fell away. He started concocting plans to kill Aquaman, to hurt his family, even torturing sea animals just so Aquaman can hear their anguished cries. His only motivation became hatred, and that was kind of unique amongst Aquaman villains. It even led to one of the most notable Aquaman stories, the one tat tore apart that happy family man image, Death of a Prince. All because of simple hatred. So, really, you don't need sympathy. Charisma, yes, but what I described certainly isn't lacking in that. Unless you meant charisma in a different way.

The only reasonable argument for abs in armor is that there is some historical precedent for it, primarily from archaic Greek muscle cuirasses. They looked silly back then, and they look silly now in modern media, btu I suppose there's some justification in the Aquaman movie for Atlantean armor because Atlantis and the various underwater cultures are meant to be vaguely Greek-coded I guess?

I don't believe thats true. That is something WB wouldn't have even let Hack Snyder do, so no. It's of course possible that it is some kind of illusion or the macguffin of the movie allows Aquaman to turn back time or something like this. Just not the baby really dying and not being brought back.

Unless the baby gets slowly decapitated while screaming and we have to watch its head separate from its spinal cord in gory slow motion...I can't see people walking out. There was a whole cool 'trying to bring Atlantean Society to the surface world' thing where people didn't quite get it but they were trying to understand, and then there was a terrorist attack and it's like "Okay, cool. Being the king of this civilization actually means dealing with political stuff that could be allegories for real-world foreign policy, that's way more interesting feeling."
Like... if we're adapting these comics.... maybe we shouldn't be taking less interesting elements and doing them in the most stock generic way possible...??? This unironically feels like one of those fake fan-trailers people make as a joke.
@@dracocrusher I was more referring to the old old stuff, where Manta's main motivation kind of was just hatred for a long time, Aquaman was a happy family man until Manta's aforementioned hatred reached a boiling point, and plots in general were much more simplistic and generic. Now, there is a good way of doing such things, and a bad way, and the trailer seems to show off the bad way. I would love for the movie to be a throw back to those types of antics, but it seems it only got the surface level stuff and didn't bother to go further than that. Now, I can't say that for certain without seeing the full movie, but it looks that way.

Like, it's possible to have a villain that works because they have this single-minded hatred fueling them, but they have to have more going than just "I am bad man who hates the hero", right? You need that sympathy or some charisma behind them or SOMETHING beyond just being evil.
@@dracocrusher Firstly, Silver Age zaniness is almost never boring. It's simpler, goofy, and often seen as cheesy by many nowadays (even though it really isn't), but not boring. That stuff can make for a fun movie, and even a good movie (look at Batman '66, Superman '78, Superman II, all with more simplistic plots, but still with good stories, good writing, and good performances), but it can also be made into something awful (Superman IV, Trial of the Incredible Hulk, etc.). You can make a compelling story out of that stuff, if you try.
Second, do they really need more going for them? Also, classic Manta does have charisma, it's just that his motivation is simple, pure hatred. It's part of what makes him interesting. Instead of being someone who harms ocean life in some way, someone who commits crimes at sea, or Aquaman's jealous brother, Manta goes out of his way to hurt Aquaman. Yes, at first he was a thief, a pirate of the modern age, but that quickly fell away. He started concocting plans to kill Aquaman, to hurt his family, even torturing sea animals just so Aquaman can hear their anguished cries. His only motivation became hatred, and that was kind of unique amongst Aquaman villains. It even led to one of the most notable Aquaman stories, the one tat tore apart that happy family man image, Death of a Prince. All because of simple hatred. So, really, you don't need sympathy. Charisma, yes, but what I described certainly isn't lacking in that. Unless you meant charisma in a different way.

Funnily enough they did the exact opposite in The Flash: Ok, giving the main character only a few scenes wouldn't have worked anyway, but they gave Miller even a double role (including the ending even a triple role). With all the reshoots and so on they could have at least written Barry 2 out of the story, but nooo, then we wouldn't have all the unfunny scenes with Miller vs. Miller ...
