The Thunderhawk is such a classic, but the Stormbird has a more unique silhouette, it'll keep the Space Bears feeling fresh adding to their identity. Since all the design motifs don't appear anywhere else in the universe. Loving the series so far! I can't wait to see what the team comes up with next 😊
I think that the Stormbird looks more "Primaris" than the old Thunderhawk; so I think it works better for a successor chapter. Murray's freehand is very cool.
However, the Stormbird is a Heresy-era vehicle employed by the OG Astartes Legions. The Thunderhawk has largely replaced them over the course of the 10.000 years since.
The Overlord is the new Primaris Thunderhawk, naturally personally designed by Cawl and Cawl only. It seems to me like it would look like a Caestus Assault Ram on steroids. Why the writers would go with that shoe on head design is beyond me though. The Stormbird/Thunderhawk is clearly the better platform with better customization potential. So I think the Stormbird should be the proxy for the Overlord. This is the excerpt from the Lexicanum: /wiki/Overlord_Gunship The Overlord is a new aircraft used by Primaris Space Marines, one of the vehicles commissioned by the Primarch Roboute Guilliman to the Archmagos Belisarius Cawl. Overlords are a new aircraft that seems to be an evolution of the Thunderhawk. It has powerful quintuple engines and twinned hulls thick enough to permit insertion from orbit like Thunderhawks or Stormbirds, despite being similar to Corvus Blackstars. Like Blackstars, Overlords possess twin transport bays with their own assault doors, but they're considerably bigger and even more blessed with advanced technologies like energy shields. An Overlord is equipped with anti-munitions cannons, wing-mounted Desolator Lascannons, nose-mounted Melta Cannons and Heavy Bolters fixed on its lower wing surfaces. An Overlord can transport up to forty Primaris Space Marines. During the Battle of Ardium, an Overlord transported one early-pattern Space Marine and thirty-nine Primaris Space Marines, some of which were wearing Mk X Gravis Armour.
Okay but the combination of Norse and Native American motifs within the Space Bears is BEGGING for a Thunderbird/Eagle atop the World Tree motif for the Stormbird.
A full on painted thunder bird on a thunderhawk top and or bottom or other avian traits would be cool, maybe the landing gear could even have claws to grip the ice where they land! Also perhapes a fur interior and possible frost forming a cave like look inside and around it would also add to the mystique and the slumbering, awakening themes
I love and respect the story arch for this model, learning patience and finally rewarded for his efforts he serves the Imperium and his chapter once more with honor.
I like to think Space Bear Dreadnoughts are more accepting of the process of being placed in stasis between battles as their Chapter's emphasis on hibernation and patience would help prepare them for the jarring nature of being woken up possibly centuries apart. It'd be cool to have a Chapter that was known to produce super even-keeled Dreadnoughts that could adapt quickly when waking up - Maybe like a download of information while they dream (in keeping with the dream catcher motif) in stasis, kind of like how Eversor Assassins are prepped before a mission.
Have you thought of making a Space Bear Tech marine and chaplain? If you’re already doing it please make a video on it, would love to see how it is turns out
