These RUclips videos represent the Fathers we all wish we had- Someone who takes the time to show us how to do things with patience and communication- Thanks so much!!
Great video! Thanks for posting. I have to weld some trailer light enclosure upgrades tomorrow morning and have never done wiring on LEDs...swapping out the old style lights such as these. Thanks 👍
Outstanding video and one can see just what is being done and how. Great Camera Work. One Concern not mentioned and I hope you have done it now is YOU CAN'T MIX Incandescent lites with Incandescent lites... I hope you have fixed your trailers all other lites over to LED also. If not please do so.....
Philoe Thank you. they do make it easy and i really like them. Being so low on my trailer and LED much brighter i feel they grab drivers attention much more than the old bulb lights. Thanks for viewing
I bought the same full light package, ,one of my trailer wires were broken someplace, ,,since yours already worked you could have just bought led replacement bulbs for the existing set up...
The light came with three wires. One for grounding , the other for brake and the third for driving light. To which wire should I connect for turn/hazard?
kimutairop2847 the trailer wire is pretty basic either 7 wire or 4 wire. In this video my trailer is wired with 4 wire. The yellow is your left turn, Break and emergency flash. Green is your right Turn, Break and emergency flash. Brown is your running lights. White ground. The tail lights connect as directed white is ground green to green and brown to brownj. If colord dont match get a test light turn on your running lights test for what wire turns on the test light do same for left and right signals. thoses will be the break and emergency flash.
If you do this using those crimp connectors, leave the bare wire long enough to cross to the other end - the more the wires contact each other as well as the connector, the better. Then again, why not solder them together and be done with it?
Great video thanks. I noticed you didn’t completely blur out your trailer registration plates and I was gonna post it to you via secured communication but couldn’t find an email address.
Marvin Gerald your welcome and thanks for viewing. No worries i'm not concerned with anything being out in a rural area i know the vehicles that come down our dirt road. My email should be on my channel home page. I'll check you never know it may of got deletes or something.
Russell Wahrman great question and yes. These are a direct replacement. They should connect to any 4 wire set up. Just be sure to make good ground so you won't have any issues.
The wires that came with my LED trailer light kit are red white and black. And I I am working on them right now to try to get them to work because I have to use the trailer tomorrow and I will be leaving at 4 AM when it’s dark. I don’t know if it helps or hurts, but I am a retired electrician
Harry Lime sounds like basic wire. Generic wiring one ground one for running light, one for brake & signal. hopefully the kit states which wire is for what sounds like you have it under control info never hurts you never know when someone else may have the same problem good luck and have a safe trip
The Shack I wiring for the lights on the lights, the wires were red black and white. The trailer wires of course are brown yellow and green. I went on this site/RUclips/and one of the confident guys with a very nice trailer said that the white wire is ground. I found out yesterday that the black wire is ground.. now the lights work fine. If only my two sons would stop accidentally bumping the lights, breaking one of them. This is the fourth set of taillights I have put on my trailer since 2000.
Questions , I followed his instructions step by step & my led lights come on , but will not blink for right or left turn , nor flash for hazard ..please help I have been at this problem for ( week's ) ( note : my trailer is for boats )
Montell Williams Id start from the beginning. test the outlet from the vehicle and make sure all terminals work, running light, break light, turn left and right. Then check the colors and match them to the trailer. Most importantly make sure you have a good ground on the trailer. I had a boat and every so often I'd check the ground even if I had to scrape the area of the ground to make sure there was good contact.
I'm converting my S10 into a flatbed and I've got the ones that have the turn signals and brake lights. Is it possible to splice the wires that connect with these to the old tailight wiring harness?
Why didn't you switch the light housing right to left and mount your plate above the tail light with the clear window facing upward? The housing is still waterproof and your plate should be illuminated at night.
Put new LED light system. Won't light. Manufacturer's tech says I need to buy a LED flasher. Not enough current draw. Really? Or add resistors in line so I am drawing more current?
Scott that makes no sense. LED draws less energy. that's why they are so good. Not sure about newer vehicles. But I have pulled this trailer with my 72 chevy, my brother in laws 03 ford and a neighbors 2012 dodge so i don't know why you'd need a LED flasher. These are basically plug-n-play. Sorry I'm baffled.
@@TheShackHome it didn't make sense. But my super clean to bare metal tongue ground wasn't good enough. Drilled a new ground hole in trailer frame and all good. Helped to bench test a light to have confidence that they worked.
@@pastorjuanm.woodson3966 if no ground then you could attach a ground wire to the light or solder a ground wire to a washer attach that to the light then to the wood and hopefully that will ground the light just attach that wire to a ground source
would you be able to flip them that way you can add your licence plate holder.? and also you know put the left on the right and vice versa. I know the light will be facing up. just a thought..
payasso it can go any way its just what they suggest if you want to flip it and have the LED light facing up shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for viewing.
Not sure if anyone else is as dumb as me, but you need to make sure the ground wire is connected to the metal of the trailer... I had mine connected to some metal on a wood piece of the trailer and lights did not work! Watched this video and realized my mistake.
Curtis Nemetz don't under estimate yourself. It's common to think connect to metal for ground but the wood acts as an insulator breaking the chain. I'm sure many have done the same. I replace an alternator 2 times, changed out the battery only to have a friend ask about the ground. We took the wire from the battery to the body some sand paper reconnected it an BOOM started right up. Yes I felt really dumb It happens. Great tip for future viewers. you just never know. Thanks for viewing.
Good thing you blurred out your license plate. Did your wife tell you to do that? You know it is mounted on the outside of your trailer for the world to see? Do you cover it when you drive it! It’s funny how people worry about the most stupid things that make no difference.
Really? Scared for years to pull your trailer with conventional, incandescent bulbs but not scared to drive your vehicles with the same bulbs. Yes, that same type of incandescent bulb in your "old" trailer lights is the same as what has been in vehicle tail lights for years & still is in most vehicles?
Pat Rafferty even if the newer vehicles have bulbs...its not like any trailer lights...the lens on cars are made so much better....and are alot bigger......what kind of new vehicle are you buying that have dim trailer lights on them...lol...

Great video. Installed trailer lights following your video, made the job so easy. Thanx for posting.
Just bought these! Ty for the vid brother

Question, so my existing bulb lighting for my trailer is there. So if I want to change out to LED, with the existing wires will work, correct.

you are welcome. Happy to help
Excellent.
Sullyyy thank you
Have trouble figuring the ground wire
I like the old ones better
what do the big side things on each side look like. or do?
SLC they are just side markers running lamps.
The Shack ... oh ok. cool. they look good. I'm going to pick some up
Thank you

Not very durable for my use there cheap and get smashed easy I made custom boxes around mine on my trailer with flip down mesh door work very well
Spikey, why hide your plate,,paranoid? I like my old light just fine.
