The first five seasons of HOUSE is as good as ER. But Grey's Anatomy is just bad. They used to sell this Dr. McDreamy character to coax viewers into watching the awful show.
I remember my mom had me watching this with her along with my siblings on NBC and telling us "Shhhh my show is on"! Growing up in the #90s and #00s was awesome
My mother was (and still is) a big fan of the series. The show was running originally at 8 PM, and it was the only way for me not to go sleep at 8 as a kid, as she allowed me to watch it. Eventually I grow up enough for it to not be the reason, but I kept watching it regardless. Just because it's simply a good series. No medical drama ever before or after reached this potential.
Nicholas Langley YEAH!! Growing up the beginning of the theme used to make me nervous- Because I would think 'Oh no its the hospital!!!' and as the show went on, I had a slight interest because John Stamos was on it. 12 when the show ended- and now I wish I would have watched and paid attention when my mom watched it!!!
Also.. Since you folks seem like the crowd that would care.. My mom served as a nurse for 38 years at Swedish Medical Center. She never stopped helping people until she passed away from cancer. She was awesome and when I was growing up she obviously loved this show and as a kid I thought it was so cool that mom was the real life version of what was on tv. Uniforms and all. It was awesome. Mom I love you. ❤ You're my hero.
sorry for mention to your voice after seven years i want someone to know an actor named Norihiro Inoue who played Dr Greenes voice in japan passed away recently. when he died many fans cried, saying"Oh,DrGreene!!" i hope you have chance to see japanese version of ER and see how his voice was terrific as Dr Greene. from japan
My mom used to watch this often while drinking black coffee and eating biscotti. My bedtime was pretty early, but I remember she let me stay up once or twice with her to watch this. She let me have some of her biscotti, too. I remember feeling really grown up :')
When I was little I had round-the-clock nursing because I had both a trach and a G-tube as well as some other medical issues I can’t remember. The nurses would always watch the show with me so I don’t remember the episodes all that well but the theme song is imprinted into my brain. I still come back to listen to it every couple months.

A friend of mine is an ER doc and was practicing in California when this show was filmed. He told me he was called by the producers for story ideas based on his experience. So, he said the show was realistic, but the reality is not quite as exciting as the show made it. He laughed that they used all 3 of the stories he shared in one episode but he would have never had all three experiences in one night.
Hey guys, I did not pass the test. But I decided to enroll in a Software Engineer MBA and I´m concluding it on April. Also, today I did the last stage for an interview for a junior developer position in a company in my town!
I remember the first time I heard this and how slick and modern it felt . Still sounds epic 30 years later. This is the original commercial release by James Newton Howard where he extended it out from the main TV cues . The original TV mix has the sequenced synth and choir swells much higher in the mix . The guitar in the end motif is much louder too . And of course no sax solos .
One of my best Medical Shows among many others, this show and Doogie Houser MD had a strong impact on me to be in the medical field..I'm training to be an EMT and still love watching my medical shows I learn a lot from watching them
Love the theme song! The best medical drama tv series, waaay better than Grey's Anatomy! I would always stay up after midnight on Saturday nights to watch the reruns! Huge crush on Dr. John Carter, Dr. Greene too! :P
I miss this show as everyone is missing it. But since this show and House M.D made me think of helping people when I was growing up I decided to become a nurse in college and after college and medical school I am going to be a surgeon. Thank you ER for being on air while it lasted. :)
This brings back so many memories! I think it was Thursday night? I would want to stay and watch but my parents would usher me out and state that their show was on :)
Love that theme song. Saw every Ep 94-09. Great acting, cast, storylines, and deserved to stay on so long. I think everybody just wanted a break. Sooner or later we'll all be in an ER and hope the docs and nurses are as good (and hot) as on the show!
I love the way this show ended. I know that’s not the most popular opinion but it was the perfect way to end a story you can’t really write an ending to. The way the El went by during another trauma at County brings me to tears. The whole ending does. Not to mention when Carter calls Rachel Dr. Greene ahhhhhhhhhhh
Only two shows ever grabbed my attention in a big way: 'ER' and 'The X-Files'. I bought and still own 2 'ER' books and the OST CD that was released. I was rather obsessed with Mark Greene and used to cut out pics of him, which were kept in a poly-pocket in a ring binder. I cried when he passed.
You've got to love this. One of the all time great TV Shows, with one of the all time great theme songs. Absolutely love this. My favorite character is Abby, she is brilliant. And Neels is a babe as well. I will definitely have to one day start from episode 1, but for now I'm up to season 12 and will watch until the end, then start from the very start.
never watched this but this song fucks in a sorta eerie way when it feels like something from childhood but you can tell it was made before you were born? Something barely before my time y'know
When the show moved away from this intro song it was a completely different vibe (not necessarily for the better imo).. Iconic introduction from my childhood...
This is actually an awesome piece of music. Why did gatekeepers fail to recognise that there was often better music in TV, movies and videogames instead of most crap in the charts during the '90s.
I was obsessed with this show as a kid. Would sneak out of bed in the middle of the night to watch it. It was always my dream to work in a hospital (I was the terminally ill kid who was always watching the RNs tediously as they busted ass, always reading medical dictionaries, etc). I’m 30 now and I started working in the ER where my son was born and it’s honestly so much better than TV 🤣
Whatever alternative scenario you might place this is, with the keyboard and electric guitar making it suitable for a late night city drive or the melodic sax giving off vibes from those astereotypical 80s sitcom intros, remember that James Newton Howard earned an Emmy nomination for this. One listen and you will understand why. And this is my first time listening to it!
I prefer the shorter version of the music. The sax-like parts (except the last one) remember of old sitcom tv shows like Full House and similar. Can you really listen to those sax parts and not think about about a guy in his 30s throwing a baseball, a football, doing something very dad-like or similar that, then turning for the camera, smiling and his name appearing under his face?
Yeah it's basically like 2 different ideas for a theme connected together... maybe he was trying out different things and he just kept it for this full track...
