ER was a show that could go on forever. Much like real life hospitals and workplaces people come and go over the years. There are always those people you identity that you would make friends with. I feel the same with ER. As the cast changed so did relationships, friendships and dynamics which is so true to real life

Yes but I’m kind of happy they ended it on a high with the great cast they had. These days things are different and people aren’t the same imo - everything is much more dumbed down in general and people are much more plastic and fake, I would hate to see Er influenced by that. I love how everyone was so genuine looking in Er and wasn’t caked in makeup or full of fillers. And I love how the women where so smart and mentally strong, these days the women idolised by the media can barely string a sentence together.

I'm a nurse and I loved ER when it was on network TV. I love it now that I can watch it in syndication. I will always love ER!
Dr. Mark Greene was the most realistic of ER doctors ever on a TV show. For most of the first seasons all the doctors and nurses and staff were believable for the time. Toward the middle and end of the series they began casting some people who just didn't come across as believable as doctors, but the writing never failed. Certain episodes I've saved on my DVR; the attack on John Carter and Lucy Knight as well as the following episode of their surgeries and Lucy's subsequent death, all the episodes leading up to Mark's death, his ghost walking through the empty ER being my favorite of ALL! But I also saved the episodes of Luka's experience in the Congo when he came very close to being executed while on his knees. Then there was the lovely Dr. Robert Ramano being squished like the roach he was. Paul McCrane is one HELL of an actor! But then, they all are. I saved these very special episodes so I can watch them whenever I like.
Love the show, love the characters, each and every one!

By season 13 (mid 2000s), almost no show had an opening theme song anymore. It took too much airtime, as 60 minute shows went from a standard of 44 minutes down to 42/43 minutes to make way for more commercials. Rather than eliminating time for the episode, opening theme songs were eliminated.

It doesn't seem so impressive by today's standards, but this intro and the production values were next-level at the time. It seemed futuristic and was ahead of the way everything else on TV looked. It had a completely different feel. It made "Chicago Hope" seem boring and unrealistic. This show felt REAL because Michael Crichton had lived this experience as a young doctor.
That extended to the camera movement on the show with so many handheld shots. It was groundbreaking and compelling television.
This show was such a ratings bonanza for NBC that it aired for 15 seasons. Fifteen! When it finally went off the air in 2009 (!), they didn't know what to do at 10 p.m. and just put Jay Leno there.
Because it was so widely viewed, many viewers came to rely on the show for medical advice, which meant they had to tighten up their scientific accuracy so they didn't accidentally lead people with real medical problems astray. It actually became educational for a lot of people, even though that was not what NBC/Crichton/Spielberg originally set out to do with it.

The ER intro song is the greatest of any show to me, I just can't get enough of it. My favorite intros will always be the ones from S6 & S7 because that's when I started whatching the show, and that's where most of my favorite characters are featured, but I honestly love them all. I do remember crying when I saw the first intro without Anthony Edwards in it, but I'm glad they kept showing his shadow in it, because somehow it validated that he was ER's soul to me. I love this channel. Thank you for existing.

I like how the 0:22 section of the intro has always stayed. To me it represents and hang with me now, the surgeon as a Christ figure coming in to save people and LITERALLY walking on water in those brief seconds. Editors and producers don't just leave things for no reason and I like to think this was specifically filmed for good reason, hence its longevity in the opening.

This opening, this song, this filming, this editing, the cast of characters from the first show to the last, is absolutely ASTOUNDING. To watch Noah's character grow from a floundering newbie to the E.R. boss was incredible. I'll never forget the first season when Clooney's character looks at a guy who abused his kid, called the Cops, and yelled at him simply, "He's a LITTLE KID!!" After watching Freaks and Geeks, to see Linda Cardellini added to it was a T.V. HIGH that I will not forget to this day. 🧡🖤

Seeing the finale return with the OG theme was exactly what the series needed to close out on. It would be nice to See ER again, maybe following Rachel through her life as an ER doctor in a more modern ER, still located in Chicago, still Cook county General (But the updated and new one opened in 06 instead of the original one). Capturing the same elements. The rushes, the traumas, the slow days, the weird people who come in needing help.
It probably would never happen. But man, this show really captured things well.

10 dislikes from Morgenstern, Hicks, Anspaugh, Jerry, Randi, Chuny, Halet, Connie, Yoshi, and Lydia for being in more episodes than some cast in the theme and yet never making it to the theme

I think Chuny, Haley Frank and Jerry deserved to be in opening credit for as long as they were in that show.

I feel like they never got the intro just right. The credits were often mismatched on the screen, the timing of the Benton punch with the piano hit varied, and the pacing changed. I do like the “hard” intro start and the softer “bells” start.

Erik Palladino as DR DAVE was always great. Coming in after Lucys tragedy to provide that bit of off the wallness thru s7 - his firing in s8 was a serious downer. But then the rest of s8 went thru the roof.
