I saw this video yesterday and couldn’t wait to try making some bookmarks myself. I sprayed the stabilizer with a little spray of temporary quilting spray, The scraps adhered to it making it much easier to handle the small pieces and I had no problem removing the stabilizer when I finished the project.

It breaks my heart to throw away scrap fabric and this is a GREAT way to use them. Thank you!!!

I love that you created something from the scraps I usually toss in the "filling" bin. This is a great project!

What a cool idea! I used to throw out all those itty bitty pieces of fabric! This would be a great item to use at a quilt guild show.

Love this idea. You could also put the ribbon on after you trimmed the bookmarks, and this could also be used for tags and use lace. The sky is the limit. Thanks for sharing. 😍

I love your project. At the finish I would put a topping or 2 of Mod Podge glossey to give it a really nice shine

I use an almost clear dissolvable film I get it by the yard at Jo-Ann's, made by Pellon. Dissolves so much faster.

This looks like a fun way to use up scraps that are too tiny to do much else with. I will try it soon. What kind of sewing machine do you have? I like the idea of using decorative stitches. How about using some colorful threads for another accent?

Coloured threads and decorative stitches would be great for this. I can’t remember which machine I was using when I filmed this one but I now have a Pfaff Quilt Expression 720. I suspect I was sewing on a Janome for this video though maybe?

Do you have to drop your feed dogs when you are doing the over stitching?

    • @ScrapFabricLove

No not for this project. You can wave and swerve even with the feed dogs engaged. Great question!

This seems like a lot of work for a bookmark. Using such little scraps ...why would you even save them? I can say I'm not a quilter, and I guess I just don't understand. But they were cute, I like long bookmarks, I would have only trimmed them a bit.😅

I don’t like to throw out any of my sewing waste. If the little bits didn’t go in something like this I would use them for stuffing in a bean bag, doorstop, cushion etc.
