WatchMojo.com could have done it first time, i kept my eyes open at a flashing screen for 20 mins, and i never got a single seizure from this incident.
I never understood the Twin Towers ban. Especially when they digitally removed them from the King Kong remake. They were here, they existed. I don't think it's disrespectful.
I agree, but I think from their perspective, there's no right answer. I personally think it's weird to almost pretend like it never happened by just omitting any reference the towers existed. Especially with things that were shot years before. I'm actually kind of surprised they didn't remove all the towers cutaways from the old episodes of Friends as well. But I also didn't live through it in NYC. If I lost someone in the towers, I probably wouldn't want to be reminded of it while just watching a rerun of a tv show that supposed to be funny either. It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Though the strangest "ban" I remember was for the video for "Distrurbed - Prayer" because parts of it vaguely looked like the dust cloud from when the towers came down.
I think it's just one of those things, where it was better to err on the side of caution. "If in doubt, don't." All that. And then of course all the people who will get dolla signs in their eyes, try to sue over trauma (cuz turning the TV off is just too damned difficult) or are offended...everything comes down to that.
I don't think every scene with the twin towers was removed from the episode. There was one part where two guys in the towers were arguing, then one yelled to Homer, "Sorry. They put all the jerks in Tower 1". It's pretty understandable why that was removed.
Well, it wasn't banned permanently. And it wasn't the only thing banned from public, the first trailer for the Spider Man movie for example was banned aswell, because Peter spins a web between the two towers to catch a falling helicopter. Yes, ok, that one was probably justified.
The original Spider-Man with Tobey Maguire had to have edits done to it because of 9/11. In the original trailer Spider-Man webs a helicopter in between both towers. The people to of the country were shook. I was in highschool during 9/11 and I know that i didnt want to be reminded of it for awhile.
I'm just glad most of these episodes are available again. I'll always remember Homer going to the top of World Trade Center because he had to pee real bad but when he got there the bathroom was out of order and he had to go to the other tower.
How about the brochure advertising the cost of a bus ticket to New York @5:05? $9, and the towers looking like 1's...looking like 911. Eerie foreshadowing. That episode was season 9, episode 1 and first aired September 27th, 1997.

also, according to the late Maddie Blaustein (Meowth's original voice actor when Maddie was Adam), Electric Soldier Porygon was in the process of being dubbed until the incident occured. After that, 4Kids did not want to air that episode.

Watchmojo talks about a cartoon episode that was banned for causing photosensitive epilepsy reactions in viewers. Proceeds to show clips of scenes that caused the reactions... Best editing award 2018.
and i may add to that also proceeds to look like actual fucking idiots for not knowing the reality of what brings on a serizure, but instead listens to the bullshit through the grapevine that basically says... if an epileptic even glances at a screen they instantly have an attack hehe UNFORTUNATELY THAT'S NOT EXACTLY HOW IT HAPPENS
Darth Trombonist I dont think its a prediction (sorry if i spelled it wrong) But my therory is, that people watch these Episodes, and these decide to Do it in real life.
One episode that isn't on here, but has been banned is an episode of the 1994-95 series "Gargoyles". In the episode "Deadly Force" the character Elisa Maza is accidentally shot by the gargoyle Broadway, after she leaves her police sidearm out in its holster. The episode got grief from parents groups for the realistic showing of blood, and the effects of a person being shot, even though the story was partially focused on Elisa's friend & Broadway's leader, Goliath, seeking revenge against a ganster named Tony Dracon (whom he believed was the true shooter, since Dracon was dealing in illegal weapons). After its initial airing, the episode was pulled from its regular rotation when Disney began airing the seasons on Disney XD as reruns. The episode is still part of the Gargoyles DVD collections, and can still be seen in its unedited form there.
There's also the fact that it's arguably the best written educational TV episode on gun safety ever made, but that wasn't good enough for Disney. By the way, the series ran until 1996 (or 1997 if you count the exiled from continuity 3rd season).
@@Compucles It's interesting what different countries decide is worth banning. I'm Canadian and I remember the episode airing originally. I remember mom being kind of upset before realising that they weren't sensationalising anything, but rather educating.
As an American, I say my country gets waaaaay too butthurt over 9/11 for something that happened almost 20 years ago. Tragic? Yes. Still reason to censor entire episodes? Hell no.
They even get butthurt about the WTC cameo in Final Destination 3 which was just a picture of the WTCs with an airplane shadow on one of them, I thought that was one of the best parts of that movie.
When I was in 9th grade, my history teacher did Current Events with us everyday to start off class. The Pokemon episode was one of our earliest current events that school year. And my family saw the Seinfeld episode the night it aired (and the story about it on the local news that night). My brother actually taped it the night it aired in 1998!
The City of New York vs Homer Simpson is possibly my favourite Simpsons episode. If nothing else, it features the mother of all D'ohs (where Homer sees the parking warden from the toilet of the World Trade Centre putting yet another ticket on his car) 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 Another reason I have a lot of time for it is because unlike the stereotype where every character is in awe of the big city, Homer has bad luck all the time there, and as a result hates it. I love it!
@Steve Hunt King size Homer is a hilarious episode too. In some ways it is similar to Homer the Heretic but with less religion and a lot more cholesterol 😂
That wasn't an EPISODE--but you are right--ALL FIRE references by BEAVIS had to be CUT from music videos and from inside any of the episodes.. ..what was MTV expecting whe n they PILOT was FROG BASEBALL MTV are such a bunch of P-hats lol
Does anyone remember the episode in which Beavis, is about to say his coined phrasing word FIRE! But he only gets out Fff out of his mouth and then says oh oh ya! Like he was catching himself before he said the word fire It must've been the very first episode of the new season following the lawsuit. Too many idiot kids starting fires For some reason to me, they weren't as funny after that. Like as if that one word was what the show was riding on or something
No one says the episode’s controversial. They say the airing of the episode when bearing in mind the plot of the episode + the modern day context is what’s controversial. Much of the episode takes place with homer spending time in & between the twin towers. For practically every viewer seeing that episode nowadays, when they see those scenes they’ll always consciously be reminded that those buildings are no longer there and have a short moment of awkward discomfort as they’re reminded ‘oh yeah that’s the twin towers. This was made before 9/11. Now im reminded of the tragedy’. Unless you’re a New Yorker or someone with connections to 9/11, then it’s mostly nothing serious other than that brief acknowledgment. But it’s still a shadow that’s cast over the episode and for some people will just put a downer on their viewing experience of the episode. So it’s not so much because the episode’s offensive, but just rather that many people will let the 9/11 context ruin their experience of the episode & so it makes more sense for the networks to just air different Simpsons episodes to remove the risk of viewers enjoying it less or being more likely to turn over or as usually is the case one or two people complaining. The banning makes more sense especially in the US or in New York. Anyway, im a big Simpsons fan so I personally don’t have a problem with rewatching the episode. But I do understand why some may find it bittersweet and awkward to sit through & why overall it makes more sense from a network’s perspective to not air the episode. It’s not like it’s really ‘banned’ anyway, that’s just dramatic exaggeration. The episode’s shown here in the UK + is available online, on DVD, etc. Its just not an episode they actively push as much which is fair.
I think what contributed a lot to the Pikachu's seizure-inducing explosion was the use of similar flashing lights earlier in the episode, as well as the tension of their situation. Pikachu was just the straw that broke the Camerupt's back. Also, Japanese TVs might have been a factor.
There was an episode of an animated series called Gargoyles that was pulled from airing in the USA (but I saw it in Australia). The episode sees Broadway, 1 of the gargoyles who’s comparable to a teenager, playing with the gun of the female detective who was the primary human character. Broadway accidentally shoots detective Maza & her life hangs by a thread while the rest of the gargoyle clan & the other detectives in her unit try to figure out who shot her. Eventually Broadway comes clean & Elisa wakes from her coma to tell him it was an accident & half her own fault for not securing her weapon properly... it was set to air the day after a kid shot himself with his police officer father’s gun
Banning ANY BMW episodes just proves how overly politically correct and anal this country became and remains to this day. Prom-ises Prom-ises did not encourage teen sex, but instead highlighted the issue and positively explained the consequences of such actions without patronizing the audience!!
But why explain the consequences of teen sex on Disney Channel???? It’s got nothing to do with being politically correct, if anything showing that episode and unnecessarily pushing political agendas through kids shows is the more PC thing. I’m not suggesting everything should be apolitical either. I just don’t see why the people who watch Disney Channel (mostly around ages 7 to 15) should be educated about sex. Many of them wouldn’t know what sex is or how it’s carried out and a lot of parents don’t want their children exposed to that. Kids shows can use their platform to spread positive messages, but telling children messages about sex that will go over most viewers’ heads is just pointless & would cause more controversy than doing good. I can’t imagine any kid watching BMW, internalising the message & later on not being pressurised into sex due to the episode’s impact on their learning of life lessons. I can imagine a lot of parents not wanting their children to be introduced to the sex-centred adult world before it’s necessary. But that’s just my view
I recall that anything about an air craft flying into a stucture was banned for a few years. 101 Doimations had to remove an episode just because it dealt with one of the pups accidentally flying their plane into a windmill.
The term ‘banned’ is a bit misleading imo & though it’s obvious dramatic exaggeration on Watchmojo’s behalf, it’s more accurate to just say the episode’s aren’t aired. To say they’re banned suggests the creator’s actively intend to prevent everyone from viewing it and intend to destroy all copies out here. But it’s the episode, if it’s a good episode that’s fine. All it means is some networks don’t promote the episode as much. But hardly any of the episodes on this list are truly banned
I remember that X-file episode back when it first aired. My dad worked part time at domino's and would bring home a pizza every Friday night...just in time for the X-files. Good days.
Sesame Street has been one of the longest-running kids’ programs on television today. Dating back to 1969, the show provided educational content, entertainment, and family-friendly material to children around the world. However, one of its episodes was deemed far too scary for children to watch. In season 7, actress Margaret Hamilton was invited to the show to reprised her infamous role as the Wicked Witch of the West from the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz. Though her appearance came 37 years after the movie was released, the sight of the Witch was still too much for children to bear. After its airing on February 10, 1976, producers were flooded with complaint letters from parents that claimed the episode traumatized their children. After additional screenings for more children, producers decided to remove “Episode 0847” and never to include it in syndication.
The South Park one was kinda dumb, since a few seasons back the showed Mohammed in an episode called Super Best Friends a parody on the justice league. In witch they hade different religious icons be a part of a "super heroe group".
Sadia Nadim, the issue is people not knowing what freedom means from a legal prospective rather than a cultural one or what is and is not protected speech, or even what that means in society itself.
Alec Norton it does happen, yeah, but i think it's widely regarded as one of the most unpatriotic things a person can do in the U.S. that's why it's a federal crime or... something like that.
blastvortex spoiler alert, it isn't. Like even a bit. The United States Supreme Court in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), and reaffirmed in U.S. v. Eichman, 496 U.S. 310 (1990), has ruled that due to the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, it is unconstitutional for a government (whether federal, state, or municipal) to prohibit the desecration of a flag.
The City of New York vs Homer Simpson I have seen that episode already in reruns in its original form quite a few times now though every time I do watch it dose remind me of that horrible day R.I.P to all the victims of 9/11.

If you make a part 2, please add “The Endless Summer” from SBSP. It was banned from acts of pollution being advertised to kids and is very controversial. Edit: I have now noticed it is actually an educational short. So if you can put in it as only a honorable mention, that can be ok for me.
what an hypocrisy ! in 2001 Mohammed was visible with no problems in Super Best Friends (what Stan ironically reminds the others in "200") the most ironical thing is that the censure of this character totally proves Kyle's right when he does his final speech in 201 (and so does the censure of this same speech, clearly second degree)
@Vito Corleone same for me, it was already the case in the end of the episode "cartoon wars" I thought it was a joke until I search on internet and see that comedy central had censured the appearance

Well, what can I say, except that we are living in peculiar times when a harmless inquiry is met with unnecessary rudeness.

Say that again, slowly.
I bought the season 14 dvd but the episodes aren't on there
One episode that isn't on here, but has been banned is an episode of the 1994-95 series "Gargoyles".
By the way, the series ran until 1996 (or 1997 if you count the exiled from continuity 3rd season).
that was a great episode, i remember seeing the episode uncut
@@Compucles It's interesting what different countries decide is worth banning. I'm Canadian and I remember the episode airing originally. I remember mom being kind of upset before realising that they weren't sensationalising anything, but rather educating.

As an American, I say my country gets waaaaay too butthurt over 9/11 for something that happened almost 20 years ago. Tragic? Yes. Still reason to censor entire episodes? Hell no.
Now people whine that images of the Twin Towers offend them
I agree.
I've seen 9/11 or Someone mentioning it so many times to the point I don't care about it now, I Just think it's funny to talk about
its not funny to the people involved.
They even get butthurt about the WTC cameo in Final Destination 3 which was just a picture of the WTCs with an airplane shadow on one of them, I thought that was one of the best parts of that movie.
Well done for putting that warning in, respect
When I was in 9th grade, my history teacher did Current Events with us everyday to start off class. The Pokemon episode was one of our earliest current events that school year. And my family saw the Seinfeld episode the night it aired (and the story about it on the local news that night). My brother actually taped it the night it aired in 1998!
The City of New York vs Homer Simpson is possibly my favourite Simpsons episode. If nothing else, it features the mother of all D'ohs (where Homer sees the parking warden from the toilet of the World Trade Centre putting yet another ticket on his car) 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Another reason I have a lot of time for it is because unlike the stereotype where every character is in awe of the big city, Homer has bad luck all the time there, and as a result hates it. I love it!
@Steve Hunt King size Homer is a hilarious episode too. In some ways it is similar to Homer the Heretic but with less religion and a lot more cholesterol 😂
"l have Mountain Dew and Crab Juice."
"Eww... I'll have the Crab Juice."
The jack hammer scene still gets my laughing to this day.
I just saw this episode last Friday 😂

Does anyone remember the episode in which Beavis, is about to say his coined phrasing word FIRE! But he only gets out Fff out of his mouth and then says oh oh ya! Like he was catching himself before he said the word fire
It must've been the very first episode of the new season following the lawsuit. Too many idiot kids starting fires
For some reason to me, they weren't as funny after that. Like as if that one word was what the show was riding on or something
Thank you for the epilepsy warning!!! So appreciated!! ❤️
I like how 90% of these comments are about the Epilepsy flashes.
That Simpson's episode was a classic, nothing controversial about it.
Hashmountain Exactly Its Just Showing The Twin Towers Its Not Like Its Getting Destoryed or something
What about the magazine with the 9/11 on it?
Especially since that episode aired long before 9/11 came about.
@@KaizerBeatz-vf9wf The whole point was the magazine that spelled out 9/11, not the twin towers in the episode.
WatchMojo just sent epileptics into shock.

Gremblo I have epilepsy and people like us know how to handle certain things that could be dangerous for us.
I seriously appreciate the warning. It's hard for me to watch some fighting scenes sometimes, let alone other things that are flashy.
That Simpson's 9-11 reference is really weird...
Ed Reid It is...
Yeah and that ep. was before 9.11
I recall that anything about an air craft flying into a stucture was banned for a few years. 101 Doimations had to remove an episode just because it dealt with one of the pups accidentally flying their plane into a windmill.
I hate it when they banned great episodes
Kristopher Jones I agree...
Hopefully one Adventure Time episode would be banned in some countries that ban same-sex couples!
Carmine Crincoli god I hope not
The term ‘banned’ is a bit misleading imo & though it’s obvious dramatic exaggeration on Watchmojo’s behalf, it’s more accurate to just say the episode’s aren’t aired.
Good days.

Sesame Street #847 (in the 70s): Wicked Witch (Margaret Hamilton!) wreaks havoc on the Street!
Just Beware huge photosensitive epilepsy in 3:52 !
Ah American tv networks determining what the people can watch. How's that freedom for you
wild man Got rid of that back in 2016; It’s what voters wanted, just like getting rid of that pesky free speech and viable healthcare.
Private companies, no freedom involved. Networks literally exist to determine what and where people watch.
OrangeJr36 I was thinking the same😂 This comment is hilarious, what did they expect?
It’s not only American networks that work that way kid.
Sadia Nadim, the issue is people not knowing what freedom means from a legal prospective rather than a cultural one or what is and is not protected speech, or even what that means in society itself.

if people can get incensed over a U.S. flag being burned, then the same goes for other countries' flags as well. thanks, Seinfeld.
I'm going to say that people cared more about the rampant Puerto Rican stereotypes more than the flag burning. But that's just a guess.
