God Bless you and your wife for taking care of her Grandmother. I'll be 86 years young on March 31st. Hope I live long enough to see your new home completed. I am in pretty good health and live in Vero Beach, FL. in USA. Take care and good LUCK. Bob B.
Love it! I renovated my fiancée’s parents home years ago and it went from something similar to a gorgeous home on a shoestring budget. This is the real Philippines, not Angeles City.
Can't wait for your updates on the future construction and seeing the final update Brian ~ what an awesome next step in your journey Brian! Thanks for your updates!
A simple life, I can respect that. All we really NEED is a roof over our heads to keep us dry and warm, fire / food to cook and sustain us and family to love / help us. Anything else is a luxury, what Madison Ave. sold us, like diamonds required for the marriage process. Have Fun my brother.
Awesome Brian. So much potential and opportunity here! I love it! You're brave though. I'm not sure if I could make that adjustment. Can't wait to see the finished house. Dream on man! 😊👍
This is Normal and Acceptable there. I spent a day in a Nippa Hut on Bohol. It was simple, but inside the Nippa Hut was comfortable and cool enough to be comfortable. My Asawa at the time said this was her Grandparents home, it was built in 1923. All Bamboo and Nippa, that place survived from the 1920's ! It was Clean and actually Comfortable inside. Brian and Lut you will whip that place into shape. Looking forward to see how the place looks when done. 😊
I love it, Brian. It reminds me of when we bought our "Jungle House" and it was just 4 hollow block walls. Now the place looks great, and I'll be retiring in 18 months and living full time in our province house. You're right, just dream a little and it will turn into a house others dream of. You'll throw rocks at the thought of ever going back to Angeles.
Thought that you sold your trike! I personally would build a new house on the property,as looking at that structure, you would have to reinforce the lower level to insure structure integrity.God Bless you and your family in whatever your decision
It's awesome. Yeah, a simple house. But the simple life are so relaxing. Your plans for the house are fine. It level it up a bit more. But I love that house. Things doesn't really need to be so fancy to be enough.
Good luck with the house, and don't listen to advice from others, your life so do things your way like you always do, it's a new adventure keep safe and god bless from London
Based on how well that first-floor foundation is, you would be better off ripping up the 2nd flooring and laying down a cement floor and a new roof. Hallow block the walls, run some electricity up there, and some windows (with screens) and a couple of fans. Looks like a good 3-4 month project.
Very interesting place., Can't get much closer to nature! I see your vision and look forward to seeing the finished product. Good luck with everything. You seemed to be laboring a bit in your breathing. Hope your health is good. Are you over the shingles yet? Take care my friend. Best wishes to you and your family.
Let me give you some wise advice. If they own enough property, you should build a new budget house. Otherwise, tear that crap hole down and rebuild a new house. That shelter is poorly built and the next typhoon will destroy it along with all the money you put into it.
In a word, SHOCKING, hard to believe an American would be willing to downgrade to that lifestyle. If I absolutely had to live there I would knock everything down and start over. Good luck in your new adventure.
That's the sort of place I'm thinking of when I tell people I love the Philippines. Not the grimy city life. Good luck and hope you enjoy the peacefulness.
Brian , what are you doing mate, this is crazy what you are doing, either build your own house or don't move, I see the looks on Lots face, she looks concerned.
Just saw your video, may I say go for it it's your life and enjoy it. As you said it may not suit every one. I have experienced 5 star and the more simple life in the province. For peace of life overall I will choose the Philippines. Good luck and best wishes.
"You're going to need a bigger boat!" (Chief Brody - 1975) 😳 The lot looks big enough, so it would probably be cheaper to build a new house next to the existing, and then tear it down the old dilapidated one when the new house is done. ...or convert it into something to better facilitate animals.
@@PhillyinthePhilippines. Jealous? You bet i am! Lol. Perhaps one day, with all that land , could build a small resort, with simple accomodation ( kind of Nipa hut). Area for camping ( bring your own tent!).. going to be great content and a blessing to the family. Think uncle might have his sights on 32 ounce angus beef steak , every night ! Lol joking, cant beat family hospitality, everyone chips in!
Brian I am very happy that you are feeling better. I had shingles and it was the worst pain in my whole life. Your sweet wife Lot looks so cute in her dress. I love your ideas and I myself have no problem living in the providence. Thank you for all your videos. God bless you and your whole beautiful family. From Kuya Bear 🐻
Hate malls, hate crowds, hate cities. Province life is the best. Peaceful and tranquil. Compared to Angeles most places are heaven. Go for it and good luck.
Not in real time, it's the opposite of amazing. Amazing is that city inspection signs off on them. No idea if that foundation can even take the load of rebuild.
My house on samar island is made from traditional bamboo I love it here outside the main village.(I'm from England) I also have a concrete house in the village in case of a typhoon. I think it's brilliant you are moving to the province good luck to you and your family
A slice of paradise. As long as you have the bare minimum/essentials working (water, electricity, data/internet and working plumbing) before moving in there on a permanent basis. It's province life, it will take time... It will be like a "one day at a time" mentality for sure.
My standards of living have been modified since moving, but I really don't mind. I do like my ac and private bath, but I realize how little I need to be happy here. I don't live like a villager, but I don't live like a city expat. I prefer cooking outside, I like my wife's relatives being near by, the animal sounds comfort me, and growing my food is enjoyable. I never thought I'd be so happy living a simple life as a young man, but material items just hold no value as I age. I love your little house, and the jungle hut. If I didn't have kids I might live in the jungle somewhere. Keep living whatever your dream is.
As someone who lives in a western modern city, this would be a nightmare for me. What do you do with your time all day, everyday. The living conditions are something out of a shipwreck on an island. And I can't imagine the bugs eating you up all day would be like, jungle life ain't for me..........well, good luck anyway.
Philly, God bless your beautiful family. Money can't make you happy. LEONA HELMSLEY was A BILLIONAIRE. She was filled with so much hate, resentment, spite, unforgiveness, and sadness, that she left her BILLIONS to her dog! ( True story look it up) I lived in the Province just like yourself and Filipinos are content and happy. MABUHAY!
she gave 5 million to the New York fire dept. after 9-11 she also gave a lot to charity after her husband died ... maybe she was trying to absolve herself from her past ... we will never know.
Brian, you have got some huge adjustments to make. I am confident that you will will adjust and wish you the best. See ya when you get back. Thanks for sharing
Brian.. I don't understand the naesayers.. Brian and Lot are doing something wonderful their family. I am confident they will upgrade with materials that will equal the quality of their existing home. Remember every home in the phils start with halo block. God bless 🙏🙏
From someone that lives out in the province and has for many years it's a whole different way of life but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The only stress I have is what I put on myself. It is a type of monitor lizard that is harassing the chickens or at least that is what we had.
Looks like great set up and when all finished it will be really fun rustic living.. not so bad but rustic living that would be great to try out for a few years. Neat stuff!
Great update Brian. It does seem like a lot of retro fitting. Would it not be better (if possible) to perhaps buy a lot next door and build a house from scratch with everything you want? If you had the lot next door, you could stay with the in-laws while the new house is being built. What is the distance for groceries etc...? It will be interesting watching the next chapter of your life unfold during this process.
when i went back for the first time in 2013 my wifes friends told her i would be bored without my computer games and TV and the like..and that I would want to come home after a week. They were wrong. I was re-introduced to the concept of a tabo..liked it better than TP. No hot water..okey dokey..I found things to keep me occupied and my curiousity was never sated. I love everything about the province..even the fact that im related to over half the barangay.
i could live like that now....i have in the past ..rough gig in winter in ozarks like that....for temporay i could now but not in a cold climate...give me tv and a/c heat now ...i good ..
Also, Brian you should consider putting diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of the home so that way you have less insects invading your home, especially ants. It is non toxic and safe with people and animals.
Good for you and your family Brian. We are fixing up a place just north of Iligan City and really liking it here being away from the hustle and bustle. Labor is cheap but re-bar a bit on the high side but all in all will be a really nice place without a high price.
As long as you and your family will be happy living like that, I'm happy for you. My inlaws live the same way and I refuse to spend a night there, it's just not for me. I prefer my rental condo in Taguig. Aircon, hot water, built in kitchen, no roosters, TV and internet without interuptions........
It's a big enough area so why not just build your own house , I'm sure being a foreigner you can afford it and a simplistic house would not be too expensive, it's like 2 steps 4ward leaving Angeles and 5 steps back living their, it's needing major changes to live their
What a view from your office. I can see what it will become. Great place to get away from the "rat race" of the big city. I could live there, no problem.
I wish you and your family luck Brian. If it's what makes you happy then you should give it a try. As for me, right now I'm at my wife's family home in the small town of Dumangas, Iloilo but although it's nice enough here I don't think I could leave San Fernando to live here permanently. Maybe Iloilo City at some point in time, but even there I'd miss some of the common things I have at home.
I noticed your foundation post are made of wood. Aren’t you better off starting from scratch and get it to specs? Remember your in a typhoon belt. Those walls would not hold in a big typhoon.
Man watch that pocketbook out there. That whole family is thinking " the money is here" best of luck friend.
Disrespectful - that's His family now.
God Bless you and your wife for taking care of her Grandmother. I'll be 86 years young on March 31st. Hope I live long enough to see your new home completed. I am in pretty good health and live in Vero Beach, FL. in USA. Take care and good LUCK. Bob B.
Best expat home improvement/build video series on RUclips!
Love it! I renovated my fiancée’s parents home years ago and it went from something similar to a gorgeous home on a shoestring budget. This is the real Philippines, not Angeles City.
It makes sense to put money into the family house as opposed to paying rent to someone down the road who is not family... ✌
Can't wait for your updates on the future construction and seeing the final update Brian ~ what an awesome next step in your journey Brian! Thanks for your updates!

We look forward to watching the house build, and living in a different place., enjoy.,

I could live like that, but who need to get away occasionally. Can’t wait to see the project when it’s completed.
It is awesome that you embrace that type of lifestyle, and I would also love to live like that myself
Looks like a living nightmare to me Brian, you're a very brave man taking that challenge on at this stage of life 😮
Wow, I just watched the new video of this. You made a LOT of progress since this video.
They definitely made good progress. However no AC for sleeping is a must for me and my kids.
It's awesome. Yeah, a simple house. But the simple life are so relaxing. Your plans for the house are fine. It level it up a bit more. But I love that house. Things doesn't really need to be so fancy to be enough.
Level and square are mysteries here.
Good Luck, lol, What an adventure .. I'm still talking about my "2 wks" out in the Jungle 28 yrs ago ..
Tear it all down and start over.😊
Good luck with the house, and don't listen to advice from others, your life so do things your way like you always do, it's a new adventure keep safe and god bless from London
Thank you so much!

It’s a dump😮
Nice ❤
I enjoy the provence life we come here when we are tired of the city
Maybe they can't tear it down ..it could be a listed building .
Don’t underestimate the industrialism’s of the Filipino.
Hey Philly, thanks for being a blessing to Lot's family!
What a beautiful blessing I love it 💯🙏🙏
Welcome to the Jungle.
The real bet isn't whether you're moving. It's how long you'll last in that house with all of those people and roosters. What's the over under?
In a word, SHOCKING, hard to believe an American would be willing to downgrade to that lifestyle. If I absolutely had to live there I would knock everything down and start over. Good luck in your new adventure.

Philly. Lots of people will not get the simple life and how cool it is to live life freely.

Looking forward to the transformation sure it will be look amazing. cant wait good luck xx

BEST WISHES AND BLESSINGS TO YOUR FAMILY IN THE PROVINCE VILLAGE. Happiness 😊 Amen 🙏🇵🇭❤️💪
great place to live !

That's not a dream. It's a nightmare.

Nice place to live. Just need some improvements and beautification. The highlight is the secret jungle can plant more trees and veggies. Good luck.
