  • This is a self-explanatory song about the emergence of gremlins due to ecological change and technological advancement that displaced forest sprites and other mythological beings. Special thanks to RUclips member TerryB01 for the audio file.

This makes ‘machine spirits’ in 40k seem more reasonable.

I think this is the best origin story I've heard for Gremlins in machinery ever. It combines magic with species evolution.

    HUMANS! HUMANS!
    Pay your dues
Just two paths but you get to choose
Feed us right, or fight and lose
    Gremlins everywhere (you'll catch on)
    HUMANS! HUMANS!
    Pay your dues
Just two paths but you get to choose
Feed us right, or fight and lose
    Gremlins everywhere
    Gremlins everywhere
Little sprites of the ancient woods used to come to the door
Get paid off with a bowl of milk--but not any more.
Watching humans make machines and treat the wild with scorn
Little sprites swore a great revenge--thus were gremlins born.
    HUMANS! HUMANS!
    Pay your dues
Just two paths but you get to choose
Feed us right, or fight and lose
Gremlins everywhere (You got it, I see you've me them)
Woods cut down and farmland spoiled, what should gremlins do?
They all moved to this Brave New World, seeking pastures new.
They found a home in machinery, among the whirling gears.
They moved all of their families in, and they've been there for years.
    HUMANS! HUMANS!
    Pay your dues
Just two paths but you get to choose
Feed us right, or fight and lose
    Gremlins everywhere
Gremlins love cold iron and steam, copper and glass and steel.
Dumb machines have no defense; they can't think nor feel.
Gremlins feast on rubber and oil, plastic makes their lunch.
Silicon wafers, heated well, are what they love to crunch.
    HUMANS! HUMANS!
    Pay your dues
Just two paths but you get to choose
Feed us right, or fight and lose
    Gremlins everywhere
So if you're bugged by machines that break, best thing you can do
Is make peace with the gremlin horde--make them work for you.
Drop some oil on an incense-coal, sacrifice anti-freeze,
Ask them to leave your stuff alone--and go bug your enemies!
(are you kidding, it worked in World War II)
    HUMANS! HUMANS!
    Pay your dues
Just two paths but you get to choose
Feed us right, or fight and lose
    Gremlins everywhere
    Gremlins everywhere

good point but then you have to wonder what happened to the creatures that were more obvious such as the kelpies and the dryads. It's got to be hard to hide out from us if you're a horse-like creature that hangs out at fords and eats people and dryads are literally part of the trees with the forests being exploited imagine how many of them are killed every time a logging company comes around. Personally I'd like to befriend a kelpie they're harmless as long as you don't mount them near water.

I think the kelpies are doing alright. There are plenty of horse-obsessed people still.

you know it's odd it mentions iron but all the legends say that fae folk have a horrendous allergy to the stuff. It's supposed to be deadly to them I'm part Scottish so i actually believe many of the old legends just don't tell my parents but the thing about milk i think was to thank brownies for watching over a house or farm.

Tialakit I thought it was specifically cast iron and silver

    • @MySerpentine

@@arthurmcvey8231 Cold iron, whatever that means.

    • @siolfur1777
      @siolfur1777 8 месяцев назад

Cold iron just means iron, but it usually refers to iron or steel weapons, steel being a stronger alloy of iron and carbon. In general though, cold iron is just iron.

    • @Arohan71
      @Arohan71 3 месяца назад

It was. And it mentions iron because it IS supposed to be dangerous to fae beings. The idea is that gremlins were born as the exception to the rule born out of the fae's desire to strike back at humans. If their mechanical advantages were so dangerous the anger and magic of the fae would create a champion that could turn those things against humans. Hence, gremlins.

I wouldn't mind a gremlin or 2. Not to get them to do things for me. But so I can make their life comfortable. Oh things to do for sure but paid more than the worth...we owe them. It's time to give back.

There are legends that practitioners on the Allied side worked a ritual to send the gremlins after the Axis..... helped along by the German habit of overcomplicated engineering.
