Yeah engage had me thinking about this too, in the first half you get like 3 characters every other map but the slots don’t really increase so there are a lot of characters I wanted to use that I didn’t get to try. I think it’s due to the smaller maps and how much investment units can have. I prefer having more wiggle room for deployment, usually to where I can deploy some filler characters every now and then
Three houses being the lowest makes sense, even though you can optionally recruit most of the characters, if you only wanted to focus on your chosen class during White Clouds, you wouldn't have too many units to choose from.
Haven't watched the video yet but I assume the initial answer is gonna be Genealogy since iirc that game doesn't have a deployment limit Curious to see what the final answer is aside from that tho EDIT: Got to the part where you explain that. I actually didn't remember Echoes allowing you to use your entire army, but I suppose it makes sense since each army is quite small
Somehow I missed this video for 4 months. Wait, 3 houses doesnt even average 10, in fact not even 9? How? Must be a lotta stingy as hell chapters but yeah, I mean, I knew from my rough map, 3 houses starts at like, 9 or 10 slots I think, and then the highest it ever(?) goes is like 12. FE12 has a similar thing I think. Somehow. I guess I'm not surprised, I was wondering if any other game would beat engage but no, engage has the 3rd lowest deploy slots, which is definitely why I and probably some/many others felt the squeeze as well. I'm actually surprised, I've heard about the squeeze in fe7 but I didnt realize even on eliwood normal it would be that low. Hard mode is ridiculous though, almost two entire slots gone. FE8, small deploy slots at the start, and then it just stays the same for most of the game. FE10 is held by back the small army sizes of certain chapters so despite having a ton of deploy slots at the end (15 for the final chapters, which is way higher than the other games), the average is merely 10 ish The difference between birthright and conquest is an entire slot? And then somehow, rev still makes over 10 average. FE6, while it would lose to birthright by itself, it has a bunch of slots while also being very constrained in the gaidens Awakening is really generous, once you get past the start its like 11, then 12 and more It's really weird how fe3 has so many slots but fe12 has one of the least.
3 houses: never goes above 10+2 except for two chapters. Most of the chapters only let you choose 9 FE12: never goes above 11+1 Engage: paralogues never go above 11+1, main story is 13+1 but only at the end. FE7, Eliwood normal, you start out with 10. Chap 23 onwards you get 12+ with exception. But the final is 7+5 FE8: game is mostly 11. FE10: Lategame gives you a bunch of slots. FE9: Game mostly stays between 10-12 after chap 18 except clash. Fates, birthright: You get 10 slots in chapter 8 and it never goes below, slowly increases to 12 slots by chap 16, then 13 by chap 18, then 14 by chap 22 and 15 by chap 26. Conquest is slightly more stingy with the slots, but it still follows the general pattern of 10>>15 Rev is a bit more chaotic, from chapter 20 onwards its at least 11, but compared to the other two its less. FE6, if you remove the gaidens and the final chapter, from chap 16 onwards its at least 12 FE5 which I never played, chap 16a onwards its FIFTEEN slots *at least, for every chapter except 21x. FE13, never goes below 11 after chap 9, and the paralogues from para 5 onwards are all at least 12. FE3 book 2 is really bizarre, it bounces between 11 or 14 with no inbetweens FE11 just never goes below 10/11 after chap 6. FE1 is just fe11 but with slightly more slots apparently.
Noice. Now show me the Fire emblem game with the most mandatory characters. (Characters that you'll always get and never miss.) For those with the lack of the ability to read sarcasm, I'm 30% serious.

@@HolyAlondite Three Houses should be aacounted for different routes IMO: CF is the least with 10 (Byleth, Black Eagles, Jeritza, discount him for pre 1.2.0), other routes have 11 (Byleth, Golden Deer, Flayn and Seteth for VW, Byleth, Black Eagles minus Edelgard/Hubert, Flayn, Seteth, Cyril, Catherine for SS, Byleth, Blue Lions minus Dedue, Flayn, Seteth, Gilbert) EDIT: Actually CF also has 11, forgot unmissable Lysithea.
@@Kruggov I debated this, but ultimately my conclusion was as follows. This list is for the amount of units you will always have no matter what choices you make. So no paralogues (with 1 exception being Douglas in FE6 because of the whole true ending thing), no 'Talk' option recruits, no characters that need to stay alive as NPCS, no characters that can permanently leave the party, no villages. Basically, if they are optional in any form, they're not included All the characters beyond the initial house members (and Byleth) are technically dictated by a choice, so I didn't include them. (Also Lysithea wouldn't count anyways since you need to specifically defeat her with Byleth or Balthus, meaning she isn't guaranteed)
Clearly the unreleased game Priam stars in has the most deployment slots when he brought his entire army to fight chrom

Common Binding Blade W
FE4 has to be on top
Naw, it’s disqualified 😔
@@AshZucchini8168 lol yeah I guess it had to be since the only limit is your unit number itself

Maps with huge deploys make my wang firm, a shame the Switch can't handle giant maps. Hope the next console is a little stronger.
