While the blue and yellow aren't my style, that panel on the back of the island looks absolutely amazing with the flooring and counter tops. Perfect 5/7.
Happy to see that the countetops finally came!!! The island really looks HUGE now that its all buttoned up! Everything is looking great and can't wait to see the backsplash go up
Fun FYI: that outlet on the island is actually required by code! When we bought our house, it was something I asked for but the seller didn’t want to put in and our agent discovered it was actually required by code. Apparently fires caused by people knocking over small appliances by tripping over a cord running from an island were so common, it’s part of code to have a electrical outlet built in. Or atleast that’s what I was told.
@@horatioswrld Yes, but those standards would be adopted and modified at the state and local level. There’s a reason building permits and building inspections are done at the most-local geography (town, city, or county). They take into account the rules from all the levels.
@@j10001 Having learned a lot more than I ever planned to about building codes (a major latent defect in your house will do that), it seems that most jurisdictions will just use the NEC (National Electrical Code, developed and published by the National Fire Protection Association) straight up, although the version of the code (typically revised every three years) may vary as it may take several years for a new version of the code to be adopted after it is published. Some jurisdictions may also modify the code in places, or could even replace it with their own code entirely, but those things seem to be rare. Internationally, many countries have their own codes, and the EU has a standardized code as well that many member nations use. When it comes to plumbing it's a little more confusing as there are two major standards (International Plumbing Code and Universal Plumbing Code) but in the parts I've read it seems that the differences between them tend to be minor, and the majority of the requirements are identical. The tricky part is in figuring out which one is in effect where you are, which isn't always easy to find.
I literally cheered out loud when you announced the countertops had arrived. I'm sure you're more than happy to put this one to bed. The cedar panel looks great and is a nice and interesting finish for the back side of the island. Fun fact: I was installing four of these exact same power modules in tables in one of our collaboration spaces at work today. Thanks for sharing!
Aside from the blue and yellow it looks great. I don't get that color choice though. BUT not my kitchen. Quality of your work is top notch. Love the videos.
I understand your frustrations with the countertops. We recently ordered countertops from a big blue home improvement store. Their 10 day guarantee turned into 3.5 months.
Awesome and cheap solution! love it. Looks great. Easily repaired and removeable for access with wood from any hardware store. Does look high end with the waterfall on the island.
wow! love the colours! the wood detail behind the island looks great. even though not building my own kitchen i can totally use that method on a project i've been trying to think of a solution for, for ages, so thank you for the inspiration 👍
Achievement Unlocked: Countertops! Your kitchen is gorgeous and getting better all the time. The colors, textures, choices of materials -- it's been really fun to watch, so thank you for sharing.
Very nice. Love that countertop, good choice! When I redid our kitchen last year we added a large island and I put cabinets on both front and back for the extra storage. any regrets on not doing that. Or maybe you didn't have the space on the backside. Either way. Love it.
Can't wait for the backsplash video. My dad and I did a backsplash for our kitchen a few years back, and I want to see if you'll have as much trouble as us! We chose one of randomized pieces of tile, metal, and glass. We had to use three different tools to cut it. It was... Tough.
Love the color choices. From the cabinet faces to the appliances. If I had kitchen that size, I'd def do an under cabinet beverage fridge to free up space from the main fridge.
Yay for countertops! It's probably good that you waited for the proper ones. I made temporary countertops from particle board for our kitchen renovation, and they stayed on for almost a year...
Love the Kitchen Bob! We recently got our Kitchen build by a carpenter here in Germany and the results are very similar in design and quality. You really did a bang up job, about the countertops: did you have the option for ceramic countertops? We had a mason build countertops from ceramic in a "mitered box" style with a steel frame inside, looks just like a big slap from the outside. We did this because we learned that the quartz composite tends to be damaged by the heat of hot pots. Downside from ceramic is that it might chip easier, at any rate choosing a countertop is always hard :)
Greatness takes time. It turned out very well. Very nice job. Great video series. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
"temporary" be honest with yourself, bob.. also, you are NEVER going to pull off that panel to replace one board.. but at the same time i don't think you'll ever need to, i doubt even children could damage one enough to warrant replacement
@@godfirnon ain't that the truth. I still haven't gotten to fully sealing the gap between my built-in closet and the wall. Just stuffed in some newspaper to seal it and fit a piece of wood to cover the slit.
Bob can you share your process of why you chose the counter surface and color, there's so many to consider and I'm curious how you arrived at your final decision.

Agreed
Thanks for the review, Brendan.
5/7...i get that reference!!!
isn't the yellow a film over the stainless steel?

Every county in every state has different codes. So where you live it’s required but bob may not be required to have one.

It's not only countertops - I've been waiting for a garage door since June.
The latest estimate is that it might be ready at the end of August.
Wow, that slat wall turned out really well! Goes well with the kitchen design.
Wow beautyful congrats🎉
Looks amazing! I hope your family enjoys it for many years to come
Your kitchen is looking absolutely stunning
Hey Bob! I just started a project with slats. Using rough sawn oak (a ton of work). Hopefully it will end up looking as good as yours.
The design was MONEY!!!!! love it
