@@apocalypse5228 Except, in real life, there is something called context. You have a mile of straight road to see a stopped police car in your lane, and you have way enough time to come to a stop. Plus, according to law, if you have a license and are driving a vehicle you are supposed to be able to be aware enough to see an emergency services vehicle blocking your road and knowing what you have to do in that case. Dont get me wrong, stupid move on the side of the cop, just not dangerous at all unles you are absolutely blind or going lightspeed on drugs, but thats on you.

I don’t know about complying in this case that officer had no jurisdiction in stopping them. By complying they gave that officer more rights then he has, when in reality they were never given a lawful reason on why they were stopped.

Neil Hamill Personally, I feel like that’s ok. Again it is important that we as citizens check these officers who think they have unwarranted jurisdiction. Yes they may result in an inconvenience for both parties but that’s why there are legal steps in place that we are granted as citizens. For example as citizens we can then take that officer to court or report them etc. Ask yourself what’s better standing up for what’s right or complying with an officer who is in the wrong which will undoubtedly lead to the harassment of many individuals?

Ectonic That’s not true, the only way the Officer could detain/arrest them on suspicion of obstructing justice is if the Officer has sufficient probable cause to believe that the other riders were intentionally obscuring his name and impeding the investigation. However, it should be known that all the riders have their 5th amendment right and do not have to answer questions without an attorney present, and simply exercising their right is not an admission of guilt nor probable cause to believe they are involved in the suspects’ crime. If the Officer had sufficient evidence to believe the riders are a material witness, than in court they could attempt to get a prosecutor to subpoena them as material witnesses, however, with no sufficient link between the riders and the suspect, that would most likely never happen, as the officer has almost no grounds to assume the riders are not telling the truth.

I'm 100% certain the cop stopping them all and then ID-ing everyone was illegal as RAS (Reasonable Articulable Suspicion) is required to preform a stop and ID and he had no reasonable proof that any of them knew the person and had no proof that all the bikers had sped.

That was definitely an unlawful stop. 10+ guys being told to “get your ID together and line up” isn’t something that any law enforcement officer can order. While I don’t people should get away with breaking the law, I’m glad the kid got away. That cop was trying to throw his weight around (and he seemed to weigh a lot) and would have likely been unreasonable with the inevitable ticket.

It was very lawful. He looked like he was part of the group so the cop questioned them, nothing crazy.
For doing a wheel you don't break the speed limit and resist arrest. This could be argued to be something far more at that point alone. Once you add in the obvious lies you have people with potentially a warrant for their arrest or people with drugs on them.

It actually creates safety issues by having all those riders stopped and police cars blocking the road. What happebs if someone does not see them or misses something and hits people. You have to weight every action with its pros and cons. I'm also not saying the officer should not do his duty. Hell if he had tried to stop the group just to check on their license and the guy ran I could understand him holding the group. You think that’s reckless? In New York there is a police chase on highways during rush ours. Now that’s crazy. But to play devils advocate, in most states the second you refuse to be pulled over and run from cops it is considered a felony. A felony being very important and dealt with necessary force. Just to give a sense of what is considered a felony: a home invasion, murder, robbery. So it is seen as very serious and a defense used in a situation like this could be that you don’t know who the rider is and can be a mass murder but without being pulled over to be id you have no way of knowing and can be seen as trying to hide from other crimes. In any case, that doesn't change the fact the cop illegally stopped the bikers, who weren't breaking the law, and attempted to illegally detain them, if they didn't tell him who the other guy was.
