      Thank you for this - really appreciated. Out of interest on the market is there a lot of variation on the disk speeds? I'm wondering if you could also get a much faster SSD as an added benefit of changing? Thanks again and wish you all the best on your RUclips journey. Very clean / professional upload!

      @@RemofRenaissance Great questions, yeah you would see some benefits in things loading slightly faster and files transfer quicker. I was mainly shopping for price over performance. You will need to get from a reputable manufacture that can guarantee specs or go off of third party sellers descriptions and test the speed once you install the drive.

    Might I add, you will need the Microsoft case that the SSD sit in. Due to the fact that the T6 screw will not line up quite right. It will be off center just so slightly. Removing the case is easy and will help with securing the SSD down with the T6 screw. Otherwise, vibration can cause the SSD to move or malfunction.

  • @douglaspawlik

    The problem is that you are putting the thermal pad on the wrong side. The surface is designed to heatsink the SSD on the bottom, which is why Microsoft uses a completely enclosed SSD.

    I'm wondering why Surface Pro 9 is running SSD on PCIe 3.0. According to specs both device and drive are PCIe 4.0 compatible. I wanted to upgrade my drive with WD SN770M SSD(which has 5150MB/s and 4900MB/s read/write speed). It seems pointless when Pro 9 is running SSD in a mode that is limited to 4GB/s(limit for PCIe 3.0 x4).
    Some YT tutorials for this upgrade include speed tests done after replacement and authors are dissapointed with results. I suspect it is rather a problem with PCIe 3.0 limit than the drive itself.

    Does this void the warranty? If I had to send the device in to Microsoft for repair they would either not replace it or they would send me back a device with the original size SSD in the case of a swap?

    • @HowToWojo
      @HowToWojo  Год назад +3

      As far as I am aware it is possible that they may say the issue is related to the upgrade that you did. So before you send them the machine I would install the stock SSD and see if you still have same issue and then send the device to them with the original SSD. Incase they replace the device you don't lose out on the upgrade that you did. The way I see it is if they give you the ability to upgrade it why would they deny your warranty.
