a bit too early imo, i say enjoy year 9, be studious dont get me wrong, but dont spend hours upon hours when you havent even started the gcse course yet!
i’ve been watching your videos since the start of year 11 for inspiration and i managed to get 4 9’s 5 8’s and a 7 in maths despite getting a 4 in the last mock i did the month before gcse’s. Thank you so much your videos were always encouraging 😀😀
Hey Sola! I don't usually comment on your videos, but I wanted to extend my gratitude towards you and your amazing tips. I just started Year 12, meaning I got my Year 11 results recently, and I was shook to say the least. My mocks were giving Cs, Ds & Es (we do IGCSEs, not GCSEs, so they're still marked in the form of A*-U, instead of 9-1), but I ended up getting 7 out of 8 As and a B [A* English; A* LIterature; A* in a foreaign language; A in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics; and a B in Maths!!] I was genuinely surprised because I had literally dropped Chemistry in the middle of the year then took it again when 2-3 chapters were left in the syllabus so I was so behind, I was terrible in Maths, our Physics teacher literally left us for dead to study and self-tutor ourselves for the bulk of the syllabus, and I procrastinated on everything else like my life depended on it. Althogh I procrastinated for most of my GCSes/IGCSEs, after getting the shock of my life with my mock grades, I just knew I had to change. So I implemented the tactics that I could've in the time that I had; watched your last minute videos for GCSE preparations, told myself that I'm not bad in Maths, Chem or Physics, "I just needed more practice" and "I will pass with flying colours" before every paper like you'd famously say, studied only key points that my syllabus required (because the textbooks are saturated with useless info), used time-blocking apps and Chrome extension, and focused solely on past papers and the flashcards I had managed to make (also thanks to you). When I say Sola came in clutch to save my grades, I'm not kidding. Now I can pursue the medicine career and take the appropriate A-levels I've always wanted thanks to you! To anyone having any doubts abt her tips... Here's a testimony to her great work, y'all. I was a lost cause, but within the span of less than a month, I was transformed into the IGCSE-equivalent of an all 9/8s student.💖💖 And if y'all are going into Year 11, or beginning A-levels like I am, y'all, pls DON'T procrastinate and listen to this woman, no joke. I ended up getting stellar grades, but that's because I realised I was going south just in time before it was too late. I was bordering the point of no return, the point where it'd be too late to study anymore and I'd just lowkey fail. Mocks HUMBLED me. GUYS I had roughly a month/3 weeks before my actual exams began before I began seriously studying. That meant I was sleep deprived (sleeping like 2-3hr a night), eating in my room whilst watching topic summary videos at 1.75/2x speed, and doing past papers back-to-back. Y'all, the whole IGCSE exams and study period experience is a blur for me, like some surreal dream...I don't remember anything. The only thing that genuinely made me not collapse or fall asleep during my exam was probably the adrenaline rushing through my veins, my brain actively telling my body that this was the most important exam I'd ever do so fainting isn't an option. Before our Physics Theory paper, my friends and I were literally teaching eachother last minute topics because our teacher made us self-study half that syllabus. Guys, I was even late for my Biology multiple choice exam. When I arrived at school, everyone had already finished and I did it alone in the exam hall😭😭
pleeeeeaaaase make revision resources as you go along in the year, it’ll save you so much time in y11 so you can actually revise instead of having to make loads of flashcards 😭
yes I really recommend you make your revision resources as you go along the year to avoid buildup! so make your flashcards / summary sheets as you go along. watch my video on timetables to see how to plan your revision throughout the year v.s. exam season: ruclips.net/video/X0zPAC0iUtQ/видео.html
In year 11, to avoid being burnt out - I recommend to start off easy by making revision resources, catching up on year 10 and revising for your mocks. This means revising a small amount each day + having a rest day in the week. Use my timetable video to see how to plan your revision: ruclips.net/video/X0zPAC0iUtQ/видео.html . Intense revision can start around Feb/March where you'll move to almost strictly exam papers.
Amazing video sola btw can I ask a question pls can I find a work experience because I want to do dentistry when I go to uni I’m starting year 10 in a few days do u think I can find a work experience at a dental practice at year 10 for experience
Hi, I really recommend going to dental practices around you and asking if you can shadow. Dental hospitals / schools also sometimes allow shadowing as well! If all else fails, you can try messaging dentists on social media to see if they'll let you shadow
Hiiiii Sola! ❤️ Thank youuu so much for the video!! Also I am in a pickle because I am doing a level bio and before my school did aqa and for us they are changing to edexcel b which I feel like may be harder. I did edexcel at gcse but the teachers are going to be teaching for the first time and I really want an a*. Chemistry is also edexcel and maths but maths is fine. So any help would be appreciated if it’s manageable and what exam board did you do? Thank you!! Lyyysmmm❤️❤️ hope you replyyy
I did OCR A, but don't really worry too much about the exam board. The content is more or less the same and the revision methods are also exactly the same. It's mostly about doing exam questions so you can see their wording / what they're looking for in the markscheme. I have a whole video which goes into details about how to get an A* in bio here: ruclips.net/video/MhYwid9g5OA/видео.htmlsi=wC7-a_G4x10jV0F9
I would recommend studying 6-8 weeks before your exam, I studied a few months before and it was overkill. 6-8 weeks allows you enough time to do many questions and mocks
Ensure u start/ have consolidated your knowledge from year 10 ensure u have resources from each subject, remember to stay top on work and you understood each lesson and ask for help. Don’t overwork. Just do bit by bit, it really helps by the end. Do exam practice here and there. Take mocks seriously and DO NOT CHEAT. Ensure your resources of year 11 are made lesson by lesson essentially. It’s okay if that entirely doesn’t happen but do it ASAP.
