it's hindu way of funeral. When our loved ones leaves this world we cremate them either in electric furnace or on wooden furnace in cremation ground. Then we collect those ash and spread it in the flowing Ganga river. In southern India the ashes are scattered in Godavari river or in Rameshwaram sea water because these places are holy according to Hinduism. I hope Americans to bring their loved one's ashes to scatter it in our Ganga river who takes the ashes of all deceased one.

The federal Clean Water Act requires that any burial at sea - which includes the scattering of cremated human remains into the ocean - must be performed at least 3 nautical miles from shore. There's also an online form documenting the burial at sea that is supposed to be submitted to the EPA within 30 days of the ash scattering event. The family in this video has my deepest condolences. I've tried to find out since if Cremains themselves were considered hazardous material for a marine environment, after all they're simply ashes and material itself looks like sand. Apparently, and depending on the deceased, medical devices like pace makers may contain metals or chemicals which remain toxic even after cremation, beyond that however it should be harmless. That said if a loved one ever makes such a request again, I'll certainly abide by any restrictions covering this topic.

My great uncle passed in November 2014 and his dying wish is to have his ashes dumped into the ocean but we're not ready to let go yet.
