Los Angeles City Hall, built in 1928--Art Deco architecture. Inspired & modelled by the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Water from California's 21 historical missions and sand from each of the state's counties were merged to create the structure's concrete. It was the tallest standing structure in Los Angeles until 1964, once the Charter of the City of Los Angeles permitted buildings to be more than 150ft.
