- This video shows an example shodan test based on USAF testing requirements. Both technique and ukemi are part of the shodan expectations. Nage - Penny Bernath, 6th Dan, Shidoin, Florida Aikikai. Uke - Silvia Eschenlauer, 4th Dan, Florida Aikikai. Test administered by Peter Bernath, 7th Dan, Shihan, Chief Instructor of Florida Aikikai and a member of the USAF Technical Committee.

Thank you senseis! Exceptionally helpful.
Awesome test
Holy crap! I just recently tested for 6th Kyu, I wanted to double test and go for 5th, I'm capable of 4th possibly too... but I must say Shodan rank looks hard!
Hm, freestyle part should be more dynamic and realistic. We had couple of folks failed on that part as they were simply immobilized by three attackers withing few seconds. Interesting that USAF require only one senior instructor to be present during the examinations, well to some degree, I guess nage can be counted as an additional one.
Well some moves are... I see a lot that I know or can do, but some that I feel might take me a bit longer to get used to..
No offense but this is not what I expected 6th Dan doing the techniques. I might be wrong but Hombu 6th Dan is different
Shodan means 1st Dan
united states air force?...)) kiddin
why is this moves have more actual locks than that stupid atm attack aikido crap? i study aikido and this is what i use in an event of an attack not some laughing bullshit and hit th guy in the face with a wallet.. and this lady is 6dan aikido?
You are looking at this all wrong. Penny is all about finesse. Look at how smooth her moves are and her body position and footwork are really great. She can beat you without using any strength.
