- It's always dawn after the rise. I think. Something like that. Because this week we're getting into Dawn of the Planet of the Apes with a returning Caeser (played again by Andy Serkis) trying to keep his primate community alive whilst battle external human forces and simian forces from within. With Matt Reeves now at the helm Planet of the Apes was bigger than ever! And the movies are good! Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review

That Apesurrection bit is an instant classic.
Flappy Bird was a great moment too
Pretty sure James was saying Ape erection
Oh my god the wordplay alone is award-worthy. I laughed for a full two minutes uncontrollably.
Oh I heard that sentence much differently...this makes more sense I guess
“That ape’s erection bit is an instant classic”
Shout out to my boy Maurice! The true MVP of this trilogy and the one who remained loyal to Ceaser the whole way.
This is Rocket erasure
Rocket was the right hand while Maurice was the left hand of the Apesurrection
🖐️🤚
Maurice is the Garrus to Caesars Shepard
I will not stand for this Rocket erasure.
Played in all the movies by Vancouver actor Karin Konoval, who is now obsessed with Orangatans.
She also has a brief human cameo in 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' as a court clerk.
"I can see both sides of the Apesurrection"
James, paraphrased.
When Koba is pointing at his scars and says "Human work", it really makes you empathize with him and the other apes in the Apesurrection
Planet of the Apes fans were dying to see an apesurrection for decades, and this film delivered one
I didn’t think an apesurrection would look like this but at the end of the day I’m happy with the apesurrection I received

i watched the whole video having only seen the top comment about apesurrection, and this comment just helped me get the fucking joke. beautiful wordplay
And then Erected all over those guys
The original PoTA series is a lot better than this. It takes itself waaay too seriously.
@@voidfire8824 You're right, I think the movies would be a lot better if Caesar randomly sharted out of nowhere and started flinging shit in everyone's faces, that would truly make it peak cinema
@@The_Story_Of_Us yeah, I'm just annoyed that most of the movies of the 2010s were remakes or reboots.
Judy Greer having a planet of the apes themed wedding seems like something Cheryl from archer would do 😂

Well she doesn't have a supervisor..she can do what she wants.
Do you think the wedding featured an apeserection?
only because she sympathizes with eradicating all humans
Its Carol!!
So glad that "apesurrection" survived the cut!
Can't believe Matt Reeves is such a Mr Sunday fan he just turned up halfway through this video.

The scene with Caesar seeing old footage of him and James Franco gutted me. God the ability to show emotions over a apes face is crazy. This is a great series. One of the few movies series where all three were great

@@doctordoom85hey he gave the best performance in that movie! I can’t believe he showed up to set one day, wrote down on a piece of paper “throat hurts, can’t talk” and then had the set guys jam him into a little tube to get burned alive.

Fun fact, the picture of the monkey in the fur jacket at 7:16 is from a real life Canadian legal case, known in shorthand as "Ikea Monkey". A canadian woman who owned this monkey, lost it in an Ikea parking lot, and it was picked up by an animal shelter. She ended up having to pay $83,000 to the primate shelter after a lengthy court battle, and law students in Canada are required to study this case. Blue Harvest.

I don't know why but something about seeing a monkey ride a horse is so exciting every time

I wasnt going to leave a like but that family line really hit me
This movie is legit just Shakespeare with apes and I love it
Apespeare, if you will.
It always has been

I love this one because Caesar, at this point in the story, is the leader of the bunch. We know him well. He is bigger, stronger, and faster too then in the first one, which makes him a perfect first member of his crew.
The scene with Koba on horseback with akimbo machine guns deserves a higher relevance in pop culture. I think the one major thing I wish was different in this movie was that when the apes spoke it was much less fluent and sounded more unnatural, maybe even sounding uncomfortable. Their brains are obviously developing greatly but their facial structure seems relatively unchanged. This would also help distinguish Koba from the other apes, because that guy is a real chatter box and it would help illustrate how he is the closest to human out of all of them (in terms of negative aspects)
yeah definitely
My will to not Google ‘is James Franco actually dead’ is growing weak..
Would these blokes lie to you?
Definitely not such an enlightened centrist!
That Apesurrection bit came back in the best way. Usually Mason is the master of callback humor, but today James won it.
Out of nowhere this just became one of my favorite COGs. On my birthday!
Will never get tired of seeing Koba's grin, its so fucking sinister I love it
6:48 A welcome addition to the saga of Laurence putting Dr. Who clips in Sunday vids
My one gripe with this movie is that they depict the subway in SF (BART) as having old-timey brick tunnels, when in fact it was built in the 1970s and is made entirely out of concrete. Otherwise, fantastic film.
Every gun in this movie somehow holds a thousand rounds in the hands of an ape.
Found the gun nut here to tell us what a machine gun is guys.
*Ape points to forehead* "infinite ammo"
@@jonsmith5058whereas I, as a non-gun nut, had no idea that we lived in a finite world

On an other note, Koba is holding an assault riffle in the fake out scene but two machine guns in the horse riding scene.
Do you suppose koba is smart enough to reload or is he the type of guy to just pick up an entirely different gun?
I love that bit of Caesar roasting Koba at the end.
"Caesar, weak!"
"Koba, weaker."
I was so excited to finally see an apesurrection up on the big screen, captured with the latest filmmaking technology. Sure there have been other apesurrections before this but they were covered in latex and you could tell something wasn't right. It just didn't feel the same. But now you can get right up close and see all one million hairs on that apesurrection. What an age we live in.
5:09 editor, that was a poster of John wick 3 which came out in 2019. So I'm gonna have to ask you to hand in your editor gun and badge.
Genuinely one of the best movies of this short century. All the characters made sense, everyone was rational, motivations were logical and yet the constant tension and inevitable fallout and destruction was unavoidable. That’s genuine topnotch cinema.
All these videos of James clumsily mashing a movie title and "trivia" together and he accidentally stumbles upon Apesurrection. Absolutely fantastic.
Matt Reeves is clearly the best person working today at taking an old, complex, slightly worn-out property and developing into something interesting and beautiful. WB/Discovery, please let him keep working on this new Batman universe he created by himself, without the inevitable meddling you're definitely going to do to either eliminate it or merge it into a new shared universe.
*guilty sigh*
*hits like button*
8:17. Bravo to the editors. James's "ooh," being put over Koba's expression there was great.
I had fun pretending that a gorilla on horseback wouldn’t immediately snap the horses spine.
This might be the funniest cog in a long time. Just so many great bits
Never watched anything planet of the apes in any capacity except when I walked into the living room when I was like 9 and saw the scene when Woody Harralson shot himself, and I asked my older brother what he was watching and he said Plant of the Apes. I was really upset because I loved Woody Harralson, but also because I didn't know plant of the apes had any humans in it so I assumed that he was playing an ape, so 9 year old me wrote an outraged letter to 20th century fox because I was so appalled that they thought Woody Harralson looked like an ape and made him shoot himself as punishment 😭I made my mum mail it but I never got a reply...
I’m not even that old but this made me feel old
This is the stupidest thing I've read on the internet this week, thank you for sharing I love it
@ah_dan6572 glad to hear it, happy to :)
It always surprises me when I remember these were actually massive successful blockbusters because I always feel like I’m one of the only people who’s seen and adores this trilogy any time it comes up.
They’re so complex, tragic, beautiful, and gut-wrenching. Some of the best sci-fi ever put to screen that doesn’t pull any punches or offer any easy answers to the questions raised about society, humanity, war, and community.
You know who would be able to survive in The Planet Of The Apes? That guy who yells Rodney! #JusticeForThatGuyWhoYellsRodney

Thank you for talking about Judy Greer. Her involvement in all of these movies was a pleasant surprise. You gave us some interesting information here.
Why Andy Serkis doesn't have ALL the Oscars yet is baffling!
Who else is looking for the largest screen possible to watch Kingdom? What ever screen size you're currently visualizing... go bigger
This is hands down one of the Top Ten best sci-fi/action movies of all time .. ALL TIME! It's also tremendously heartbreaking. We've seen this plot across dozens of movies over time .. but for some reason this iteration is one of the most tragic. You just really REALLY want the two species to get along but the wicked elements just won't let it happen. Top notch movie!!
11:35 I was not expecting greenscreen Jerma lmao
Dawn is easily the best in the trilogy. I often find myself rewatching this movie; not the whole trilogy…just this movie. It’s just unfortunate how they set up Blue Eyes, then killed him off in War.
Yeah his death in War is so anticlimactic. War is good but it’s definitely a drop off from Dawn. I think part of the reason is that Jaffa and Silver, who wrote the first two, did not return
@@gregorydavidson2744I think his war is very impactful as it shows that even the people who Caesar is close to can die in a War. Pretty realistic.
I will not forgive Ben for including Jojo Siwa in this video and, as a result, immortalising her forever in this channel.
Ah yes, the better AVATAR.
Seriously though one of my favourite movies.
This movie took so much from avatar lol
@@Anthonycheesman33 both are colonialism narratives; but apes actually is nuanced and doesn’t have a shitty white saviour narrative.
13:19 The scene where the Colonel talks about this was actually filmed for the third movie but was deleted
I've only discovered these guys recently, but they're top tier
Aren't rise and dawn kind of the same thing? That always bothered me. Like, the Planet of The Apes rose and then dawned? It's like saying I sat and then took a seat.
Rise - cease to be submissive, obedient, or peaceful
Dawn - become evident
I think it works
Well you see "rise" is actually the root word for words such as "arise" in which the chimp empire did moving east to conquer but also, and more importantly, it is the root for the word "apesurrection"tm
The way I see it, they should've been switched around. _Dawn_ is the instigating event and _rise_ is the gradual progress that follows. So the first film should've been "Dawn" and the second "Rise".
@@MLennholmthat's fair actually
R.I.P. Dave Franco. Gone too soon. Loved him as New Goblin in Superman Returns.
i’m actually so excited for you guys to go over war and kingdom
One thing I loved in this movie was how the surviving human's trauma was only ever hinted at. There were a few times when I expected the typical long dramatic monologue about someone's particular woes as the camera slowly zoomed in on them. Instead basically nothing was mentioned beyond 'what we went through', and that just made it feel so genuine.
Assault Rifle 15 is a classic bit
“Apesurrection” is absolutely wild
Using Dixie Kong instead of Candy Kong to illustrate sexy apes is so cursed. lmao
When the edit starts with a jpeg Bowl of Caesar Salad slid across the table to parallel James words, and a little Julius Caesar to cap off Masos, you know your in for a treat for the rest of the video! 😅😂
It depresses me that the artist that made it so unquestionable that two monkeys could have a not silly punch up on skyscraper are completely nameless. Seems like they pretty much made the whole movie
Ultimately that person is Matt Reeves, since he's essentially the manager of the entire project. Hundreds and hundreds of people are responsible for the actual animation and modelling work
@@BonJoviBeatlesLedZep but we know Matt reeves for what he contributed. We don’t know anyone else, considering the nature of this film that’s saddening
Great, now I'm scared to go to the bathroom
The context appropriate callback to apesurection at the end was excellent work.
Id really describe Caesers story in this one as Shakespearean
I hope Ben realizes they were definitely (hopefully) thinking of Candy Kong lmao
While walking together through the cemetery a father gently explains to his son that we all have to leave this earth one day and that life is a beautiful gift to be cherished and celebrated even for those who have passed. Then the father and son reach their destination. A tombstone reading: "Grandpa Joe. He went bum first."
I'm now scared to sit on the toilet incase I die and disappoint Maso.
I feel like this was basically the Dark Knight of the franchise.
Koba is such a convincing antagonist. The fact his plan ends up working in the long run puts him up there as one of the best villains in any franchise imo
They punch for a bit and then they're primates.
Mates together strong, we’re family!
Some Green Triva for y'all. Planet of the Apes and Mad Max actually inhabit the same Earth. The Road Warrior lives in Australia while the rest of the apocalyptic world is inhabited by hyper-intelligent apes.
My favourite scene was when Koba said : “It’s Morphing Time”
This franchise is perfection.
This is probably about as perfect of a popcorn flick that will ever be made.
Best Of The Franchise with a perfect mix of drama and action. Andy And Toby Deserve Oscar Nominations. Hope Kingdom Captures What Made This so good.

The bit where Koba blows away the two humans is so creepy and brutal .. such a uniquely evil character, yet you also can see how he got that way. Very dark movie .. not for the youngsters!!
Gary Oldman is robocops dad.
I’ve only seen this once in theaters but the shot where the camera is fixed to the tank has as it spins around the battle is fucking incredible

I'll never forget Mason talking about Christian Bale reading entertainment weekly and finding out Jason Clarke was cast as John Connor and repeatedly saying to himself oh good for you, good for you 😂😂😂
This whole trilogy of monkey madness is ageing so well, watched them back to back, peak trilogy.
