I’m surprised you don’t see a lot of luck with FB groups. I literally sold all of my dad’s farm equipment in FB groups. And it sold in HOURS. Totally crazy.
fb is really area specific in my experience. if you don't have a large target group looking for a specific thing in your immediate area fb marketplace isn't the greatest option. also younger people don't use fb. and it can also be a regional thing. it really just depends on demographics
I've been a reseller for over 25 years and just the past few years on Posh and Mercari. It's always pretty dead during the summer. Listing daily always brings more sales and that's why you sold right away and then it cooled. I always end listings before the 30 day mark and then "Sell Similar" which makes them appear as new listings. I haven't sold much on Mercari since they changed their format and Posh has been super slow. But this was a fun video! Thanks
Thank you for this video. Hubby and I are *trying* to sell his oldest SF books on Ebay, but since we are hopelessly tech-and-platform incompetent, it's been very slow. But I learned a lot from you, so thank you.
I can see where Ebay would work best for the vintage. Poshmark works well for the bigger sellers. My daughter in Florida makes a full time living selling on Poshmark. Lots of designer, brand name and vintage easily found in the Sarasota area. She doesn't play all their games like having parties and stuff. I think she has been successful because she has a certain style, brands and type of merchandise for sale so she has lots of repeat business and 250K followers. She says Poshmark works for her because of the bundling. People can choose many items from your shop and you can make a deal with them and ship it in one box. She sells about 30 or 40 items per day, but sometimes one person might be ordering 8 or 10 items. I will never sell on Mercari again because thieving scam buyers can rip you off and Mercari does not have your back like Ebay does.
This has pretty much been my experience. My mother in law has a huge following on Poshmark. Mercari is full of scammers. And I sell most of my items with good success on EBay. I don’t sell exclusively clothing though, I also sell a lot of collectibles.
Aww * hugs * for you all ! I go through hell with food allergies too. That's really cool that Thrive has such a long list of ingredients they don't allow in products.
My vote is for eBay. However , as a seller do whatever it takes to crush shipping costs. As a Canadian, yes I do live in Canada, I can not tell you how many times I have not bought items not because of the price of the item, not because of converting from USD to CAD, but Because of shipping cost .period. Full stop. And I cannot for the life of me understand why seller A manages to Ship identical item for less $$$ than Seller B. Just my opinion 😊🇨🇦❤️
In regards to shipping cost I just always assumed that seller A was just charging the actual shipping cost. And seller B is trying to make some money on the higher shipping cost!!... But don't know if anyone ever really knows the reason!!??!!
I won’t ship overseas again, since customs likes to open up packages & ruin vintage items 😅 so if you find a seller who is willing to fill out the forms etc. I would pay the extra cost. We hunt down “source,” mend & clean items, photograph & list, shipping etc. and than have to wait days to get paid. It’s a ton of work!! We do it because we need the money “working class people”
I’ve heard that shipping on ebay isn’t always set by the seller - they can opt to get it automatically managed by the platform… Less hassle for the seller, but a shit deal for us international buyers :(
I got my Etsy store shut down 😅 so I have been selling my things including my vintage dresses on EBay. You’re right it’s been popping off over there! 🎉 only thing I don’t like is they don’t have a video feature.
Sometimes it's just all about which one those platforms has THAT EXACT dress I am hunting in my size gurl! Or close to my size.... eeshhh... with the least bit of take a tuck in here or there!!! So if I find a dress I LOVE at a "used" store in a 6 and I need a 8 or 10 I HUNT THAT PUPPY DOWN! so idk who has it!!❤😂❤ it's all about size here! Great vid!
I’ve been a Thrivemarket member for years now, they carry quite a few things that I use for my own and hubby medical diets. Really fast shipping, and I save way more than the annual fee. Nice to see them advertised and thanks Thrivemarket for sponsoring!
With your mannequin - I like to bung a bra on there and pad it with whatever, for that fuller bust look. You can do the same for the bottom with underwear sewn up at the bottom, prod a hole in for the stand and pad them out again. Means you can add/subtract to get a size that fits the clothing, helps make it look better for photographing.
OMG this is one of the most helpful videos ever. I think I'm going to shoot you an email because I have the coolest Disney Mickey Mouse T-shirt that's about 55 years old and I've been meaning to get your opinion on it.
"Mercari had some good deals, but I often felt uneasy about buyer protection issues. 😩 Ditchit focuses on user safety, making every purchase feel secure and trustworthy. It’s my new favorite platform!"
Thank you for your entertaining video! I also sell on these 3 platforms and sell about equally on Poshmark and ebay. Admittedly , I have an app to autoshare my PM items. Mercari is slow for me. You can make specific price offers on the app, you just have to backspace and change the price.
Hi! I’ve been binging your channel for the last several days. Love it! You have my kind of humor! I’m commenting/questioning on this post simply because my ADHD brain is focused on this at the moment, but I’ll be back on the pattern & sewing posts shortly. What was the experience with customers like with ebay returns/post sale/etc? Any experience in selling a “lot”? I have a huge (yeah, “huge” is a relative term to most, but think of a two car+workshop size garage filled(yeah, really REALLY filled to ceiling) with 90 gallon tubs, bins, racks, boxes and all sizes of containers and such chock full of everything from linen, fabric, notions and buttons (Good Lord the buttons!), books & patterns to sweaters, rompers, shirts, socks, ties, aprons, dresses, skirts, hats, shoes, purses, crinolines, etc.-and I do mean etc. including housewares - from 1920s to 1990s (mostly around 1940s, 50s & 60s)). Long story, but once upon a time I wanted to have a vintage shop. Medical issues and life have gotten in the way of my retirement plan, and well… things change. If you’re ever in the Huntsville Alabama region, gimmie a shout. Anyway, all that to say, once I did do some ebay selling, but it’s been ages ago. I’m wondering if it’s worth doing a piece by piece or just being done with it in a Lot sale. Thanks for your time.
thank you, i found this really helpful...ive got some stuff on poshmark but really never get movement....and what are cross-posting apps and which would you recommend? thank you😁
eBay seller here. i take pictures on my phone, edit them, turn on wifi so pictures can go to photos/google. then do the listing. it's easier for me to work on the computer. Also store photos in files.
Hi Stephanie, I know this video is a little old so you might not even see it but where did you get the black dress with the treasure chests? I absolutely love the fit and think it would be very flattering on me.
You are really making me think. Maybe I should focus on vintage when I go back onto eBay. I used to be a reseller there and I moved out of the country where it’s not possible. I’ve been considering my business model and focus for when I move back again. One thing I know from being a reseller previously is that people obviously often make really ridiculously low offers just in hopes that you will take them but if you offer them a reasonable offer like the five dollars lot of people take that even if they’ve tried to get 25 off of the price. They are still happy to get five off the price. They’re just wheeler dealers and they’re looking for a really good deal, but they also really want the thing
I’m contemplating selling clothing and accessories. I have kept many of my work clothes for the last 50 years. I also have a very good source for thrifted high end clothing. I’ve always said I couldn’t sell a dying horse a drink of water, but i’m retired, 75yo, with lots of things. I really need to downsize and need the extra funds for home repairs, etc. I’ve already given to charity what I don’t think would sell. Your information is very helpful.
Go ahead and list whatever you have, even if YOU don't think it will sell. People like, are looking for the weirdest things. Also, price it high, it looks more desirable. Slowly lower price if no offers are forthcoming and only donate after you run out of patience, or hope.
Right in time! Listed 70 item on eBay. Then debating posh but feels like Mary Kay party. Marcari seems lonely. Etsy scares me bc everyone says they’ve been kicked off. . Staying with just ebay.
eBay is the largest selling platform. More eyes on your items. Just make sure you give the best description and info and photos on eBay. I think eBay is the worst with siding with buyer on returns. Posh is the best with no customer returns if you represent your Item Correctly
Wow, I have been waiting for this video ever since you did an analysis of ThreadUp. Did you offer free shippiing on ebay or was the buyer responsible for shipping? Well done & thank you!
Hi Stephanie! I'm so happy your family can utilize Thrive! I've been using them for almost a year and I absolutely love it. I'm vegan and can find everything I can possibly want. And the rest of the video is cool, too 😆
The ad roll in the middle of the word "Anticipation" was mean. 😂 Also, I've never used Mercado, but it looked like you could edit the promotional price because a keypad with a backspace button popped up?
And totally unnecessary to make money. My daughter is a full time seller, ambassador status with 30-40 sales a day and 250K followers and she doesn't do any of that stuff. She bundles, makes deals and lists new stuff every day.
I'm glad eBay works as intended in the USA, because here in the UK it's absolutely DIRE. I never get any views on my items, no matter how good my photos and descriptions, how many of their criteria I fill in etc... I've no idea what's going on with it. I'm gonna give it a try with something I'm hoping to get bids on, and we'll see if it works. We have Vinted here which is becoming my preferred platform, it sounds like it works similarly to Mercari in the fact that the buyer is the one who pays the fees, so as a seller it's very easy (plus, nothing expires, so you can just leave your items on forever and send offers when someone likes them). I both sell and buy on there and I've been lucky so far, but they don't take everything and their filters are very lightweight, which is annoying.
Im ot sure if Im staying with mercari since they added Japan bc there arent any search filters for it and wading through the japanese listings now is ridiculous.
I prefer facebook marketplace if I'm trying to find something large or a general idea. Although, I did manage to score a new embroidery machine at half off on Ebay because the local ones were from the floppy disc era. I like old tech, but since I knew that I wanted to basically solely do custom designs, figuring out **all** of that translating and stupid expensive proprietary crap... yeah no. Note for the marketplace, I only do local pickup and pay with cash
Mercari made me angry recently as a purchaser. They need to work on their return system. Seller listed an item wrong and so I did not get what I ordered. So these days I have decided to not use them for awhile.
Sorry, but I hope this is ok to ask. I need to ask women that are doing the time periods I want to do (1930, 1940, to 1950) My question is what would be the right/good hair cut to make a good hair style for the time periods I said? Please and help or where I can find help? Thank you
Thank you for this experiment. I've got a lot of women's vintage to get rid of because, like a goldfish, I grew to my surroundings. I've 1900 to 1950 jackets, suits, dresses, hats, shoes, purses. I'll never be size 24 waist again. (calf maybe). What do you use for shipping? USPS or another?
It’s so funny this is posted, because I am going through the nightmare of trying to sell my late great aunts extensive jewelry collection. Vinted was awful. Mecari is a dud because they apparently mark up extremely and so I can’t price things fairly because I don’t know the rate.
Genuine question - in what way was Vinted awful? Their aggressive marketing has rather put me off trying, but I should like to know what the actual experience with them would be.
I am 65. I buy clothes most on Depop but patterns on Etsy and EBay. I’m told Depop is a place for generations much younger than me. I have purchased on thredUP, but it got really frustrated with trying to find different things in there like features. I bought at least one thing on Mercari. I really do find what I like on Depop for some reason I haven’t bought from Amazon in about six months.
I buy on eBay. Its pretty easy to buy from, abet can have some issues in this sorting filters for me. It's been interesting to find plus size there, tho their shoe filters/how shoe listings show up are still ATROCIOUS.
Actually no. The buyer is a well known person, and I actually chatted with them and they love them. Please don’t vilify buyers on eBay. Not everyone is out to scam.
@@StephanieCanada That's good for you. Unfortunately ebay have allowed the site to deteriorate into a haven for thieves and scammers. I've personally known many sellers who have left the platform after being scammed several times by buyers and ebay let them get away with it.
You just need to set up a Paypal account and you shop anywhere and pay with that. They are the only ones to have your credit card or bank account or whatever you give them. I have never had an issue in 15 years. Plus they have your back if you get ripped off by someone on Facebook or whatever they give your money back.
It depends who you ask and what you sell. For me, eBay is dead if I’m not willing to pay exorbitantly high promoted listing fees - so as far as fees go, eBay is neck and neck if not higher in a lot of cases than Posh when you take promoting into account. But I mainly sell men’s clothes, and never gave Posh much thought. Now thinking of giving Posh the attention I’ve given eBay, since it feels like their platform just ain’t it anymore for me.
Postmark is not a great place to sell your Items on. I ended up closing down my account because of fraudulent transactions again with them. The sad thing is you can’t call postmark with this kind of thing. I would stay away from using postmark at all costs people. I’m thinking about contacting the better business bureau in regards to postmark allowing fraud to happen. Is postmark really this bad. This is now the second time I had fraud happening to me on poshmark? I sell all my stuff on Mercari only.
I follow Kat the nurse flipper who regularly dies videos onnthis. And she has a great ine on List Perfectly which is an AI who writes the hook line and posts, making selling online a game changer. And List Perfectly also removes the listing after sold. Again Kat stressed was a game changer!!!!! Much love Steph!!! I love you sooooo much. Want to meet you.....yall need a serious parasite cleanse to rid your body of these issues. Wal Mart stopped carrying the all organic ingredient sauce made in Italy. Was so delicious you could eat it from the jar. I wonder if this market even clears the bio engeneered ingredients in each and every item on the grocery shelf. Thanks Steph!!!
I was going to recommend List Perfectly as well. Amazing customer service. Great features. If you are looking to sell/resell more regularly, look into it.
People post fake ads all the time on Ebay and it is way too full of foreign spammers. My husband buys fishing equipment and there is a guy in Korea who posts something he doesn't really have for $300 when they go for $500 normally. He takes the money and posts again the next day under a different account, same picture.
I’m surprised you don’t see a lot of luck with FB groups. I literally sold all of my dad’s farm equipment in FB groups. And it sold in HOURS. Totally crazy.
Depends on what it is
As someone who bought most of my farm equipment on FB marketplace I agree farm gear goes quick on FB.
fb is really area specific in my experience. if you don't have a large target group looking for a specific thing in your immediate area fb marketplace isn't the greatest option. also younger people don't use fb. and it can also be a regional thing. it really just depends on demographics

Selling on posh is mostly about brand. Good brand equals good views. It’s just a whole different selling site with sharing and being social.
Thank you for this video. Hubby and I are *trying* to sell his oldest SF books on Ebay, but since we are hopelessly tech-and-platform incompetent, it's been very slow. But I learned a lot from you, so thank you.

They have a video feature but it is a work around way to do it.
Same here. Wish they had video. Like posh.
Sometimes it's just all about which one those platforms has THAT EXACT dress I am hunting in my size gurl! Or close to my size.... eeshhh... with the least bit of take a tuck in here or there!!! And of course which country you are in...
Very interesting, but hey.... we're those SHRIMP earrings? So cute!
This is super timely b/c I am selling a Fjallraven backpack and was just about to list it on Mercari!
Great video!! Loved the Rocky Horror reference haha!!

Padded spanx are great for leveling up a mannequin for sure! I’ve been thinking of leveling it up with a catsuit over all the padding too.

Not me, yelling at my tv, “SAY IT! SAY IT!” RHPS for the win!
Good to know. Thanks for doing this experiment. I have several items I want to sell and had a hard time deciding which format to use.
"Mercari had some good deals, but I often felt uneasy about buyer protection issues. 😩 Ditchit focuses on user safety, making every purchase feel secure and trustworthy. It’s my new favorite platform!"
the next time you do this could you give us an estimate of the TIME expended? hanging, steaming, photographing, posting, follow up, etc......
I wish Vinted had an official Vintage category. They seem to have set their sights on luxury brands recently
At the worst time in human history for luxury too, just look at Burberry’s latest posted numbers
I like selling on eBay the most too! A little more finicky with the shipping info required pre-posting, but the highest yield by far.
I find mercari to be the easiest. But I also use the app vs the web page.
Either way thanks for the great video!
Thank you so much. This video reinforced my choice of platforms.
I don’t sell anything but stopped by to show ❤ and stoke the algorithm
Interesting. I did Ebay years ago. I’m actually doing ok on Poshmark selling handmade items.

I do all my listing from my phone. Taking pictures etc for all three platforms.

This was really informative! I also just ordered a mystery box from you can’t wait to get it ❤
This was new to me info. I think i followed most of what you were doing. 😏 This was for clothing but what about vintage ( 80s) concert programs?
This is so great to know. I have over 100 things listed on Mercari with some success but not as much as I'd like. I'll have to relist them on ebay :)
eBay is the largest selling platform. More eyes on your items. Just make sure you give the best description and info and photos on eBay. I think eBay is the worst with siding with buyer on returns. Posh is the best with no customer returns if you represent your Item Correctly
Please do WhatNot soon! I have sold there successfully for almost a year!
I'm going to start on WhatNot with collectible glass.
Wow, I have been waiting for this video ever since you did an analysis of ThreadUp. Did you offer free shippiing on ebay or was the buyer responsible for shipping? Well done & thank you!
I do not offer free shipping. The buyer covers that cost. And thank you for watching.
How about your shipping costs? Did you use USPS?
Hi Stephanie! I'm so happy your family can utilize Thrive! I've been using them for almost a year and I absolutely love it. I'm vegan and can find everything I can possibly want.
And the rest of the video is cool, too 😆
My personal opinions .. for shopping, mercari for cute house decor, ebay for antiques and maybe some clothes, poshmark for clothes.
I agree. But Nick nacks sell well on posh too
This was super informative. Ebay has been the winner since the early 2000s.
I am such a huge fan of Thrive Market.
So glad I found you❤️
Fantastic video. Thank you for doing all that!!!
The ad roll in the middle of the word "Anticipation" was mean. 😂
Also, I've never used Mercado, but it looked like you could edit the promotional price because a keypad with a backspace button popped up?
Oh that is SO FUNNY for the ad placement. And with Mercari while it looks like you can adjust it, you can only lower it. Never raise it.
I absolutely love the miss frizzle dress ❤❤❤❤
Very helpful, thanks Stephanie. I too dislike the "party" side of Poshmark. Such a waste of time.
And totally unnecessary to make money. My daughter is a full time seller, ambassador status with 30-40 sales a day and 250K followers and she doesn't do any of that stuff. She bundles, makes deals and lists new stuff every day.
Oh yes food allergy queen over here and those tricky words like maltodextrin
What size is the pink milkmaid shift? I alos like the handmade blue floral skirt Is there still a place to see the items left?
Hey there! You can find everything here www.ebay.com/usr/pirateboyd
Thank you! ❤
Oh my goodness, an ad had the perfect timing. Antici..............ad plays..........pation!

Thrive Market… if Cost Co and Whole Foods had a baby. Been a member for years.
Thank you so much

It’s so funny this is posted, because I am going through the nightmare of trying to sell my late great aunts extensive jewelry collection. Vinted was awful. Mecari is a dud because they apparently mark up extremely and so I can’t price things fairly because I don’t know the rate.
Genuine question - in what way was Vinted awful? Their aggressive marketing has rather put me off trying, but I should like to know what the actual experience with them would be.
Mercari works for me better than EBay or Poshmark. I barely sold on EBay it was horrible. I sell everyday on Mercari
Mrs Canada do you have a vintage V9192 for sale? Found it on Amazon for $19.99. That's too rich for my budget😢
1:15 The squeak toy sound to highlight scare-quotes needs to be a more regular thing!
eBay will always have my heart!!!!
I buy on eBay. Its pretty easy to buy from, abet can have some issues in this sorting filters for me. It's been interesting to find plus size there, tho their shoe filters/how shoe listings show up are still ATROCIOUS.
ohh rocky
I'm don't like the return system on Ebay.
How many these will end up being returned by the buyers,? The "damaged house dress" will probably come back as an "item not as described".
I've personally known many sellers who have left the platform after being scammed several times by buyers and ebay let them get away with it.
yeah, poshmark seems very social dependant
I don't know how to shop safely online. The only one I have ever heard of is e Bay.
You just need to set up a Paypal account and you shop anywhere and pay with that. They are the only ones to have your credit card or bank account or whatever you give them. I have never had an issue in 15 years. Plus they have your back if you get ripped off by someone on Facebook or whatever they give your money back.
Great video
Did you promote it?
Nope. Not at all. If I did, I would’ve taken it out in the breakdown.
Oh no, Miss Frizzle!!
Ebay has atrocious customer service, but it is the best known of the three.
That is surprising. People all over social media say that EBay is dead. Apparently not 😊
It depends who you ask and what you sell.
Wow. Never had fraud on posh. Sold on there since 2014. Sold 7,300 items. But I’m not a big buyer. Was the fraud from buyers or sellers?
It was from buyers. It happened twice to me so I gave up on posh.

Have you ever sold on Etsy?
It would depend upon the items being sold and the possible buyers.
And the algorithm at that given moment
eBay fees is to much😢
💜💜💜💜
Girl just outed me “and maybe others who had the same question”.
Now we know you don’t live in Canada, yay…
Not ebay, that's for sure.
Say It, Say It, Say It!!!!... LOL🤣
If you are looking to sell/resell more regularly, look into it.
eBay doesn’t take care of its buyers. I know you are not one, but there are a lot of scam sellers. I have had good luck on Poshmark.
People post fake ads all the time on Ebay and it is way too full of foreign spammers. My husband buys fishing equipment and there is a guy in Korea who posts something he doesn't really have for $300 when they go for $500 normally. He takes the money and posts again the next day under a different account, same picture.
I have not had that experience. I have had a few cases opened (due to customs hold ups) but eBay has always done right by both parties.
