Fishing for a New Species on the Indian River - 4K

  • I went fishing for a new species of fish on the Indian River in Florida with Capt. Chris Loeb. We started the day off fishing for speckled trout. While we were trout fishing, I caught a surprise redfish. After catching several dozen speckled trout, Chris and I decided it was time to target some sheepshead (I've never targeted this species of fish before). I broke my personal best and caught more sheepshead in one day than all the other days of my life combined.

It's pretty cool that someone who regularly catches fish that weight hundreds of pounds can still get so excited over a 2-4 pound fish.

I'm an old guy who used to fish the piers at Galveston, Corpus Christi, and all the bridges in between. Also Crystal Beach, jack-up rigs and other structure. Sheep's head in the early 80's were often bigger than the ones you were on, but wow, those are respectable. Biggest trout I ever caught was on the diversionary canal in Hichcock. 21 inches and fat. Both are great eating. Bon appetite! Drum are my favorite though.
