    How did you check for play on the old tie rods? Also, what were the symptoms? Any tire wear?

      I also want to know this.

      @@leokennedy4894 jack up the front side you want to check under the control arm. You only need to lift it enough so the wheel is off the ground. Grab the tire 9 and 3 o'clock then try to wiggle it left to right and right to left. If you feel play you will notice however it is good to have someone watching the outer tie rod to see if the wheel moves and the tie rod doesn't for a little amount. You can determine roughly how much time you have until you need to really need to replace it. I would replace right away with any amount of play because other parts wear down and tires get messed up.

    Do the nuts need to be torque to spec?

    Ps this is okay to hit the bolt of the tie rod if u are replacing. Hit the casing the bolt is in if u plan on re using the outer rod in another install

    My brakes were squeaking I did the pads but then I looked and they were only halfway one I still put new pads in anyway I replaced the shims and I greased it but it's still squeaks a little I'm wondering if it's because I need rotors but they look fine I didn't do them because money is tight looking to do it I'm in a couple weeks I know it's stupid but I needed I thought I needed to Plus didn't hurt to take the wheels off and look at the pads but one of the outer tie rods on the passenger side did have a smidge play Is that possible I could get a squeak from that and I should do that obviously right

      Of course your brakes are going to squeak knucklehead, You installed new pads on old rotors! You said that the rotors look fine, Rotor specifications are measured using calipers, How the hell do you think you’re eyes could possibly catch what the rest of the world needs calipers for? FYI I bet you $1000 your rotors are not fine! Oh and by the way those pads are no longer new which means when you replace those rotors you will have to install a new set of pads at the same time otherwise you will just be chasing your tail! Here is a free lesson for you. A brake squeak is caused by a vibration, If there is a vibration something is not perfect! Most likely it is The pad vibrating against the rotor because your rotors are less than perfect! At my shop I will give you a lifetime warranty with your brake pads as long as you either get your rotors resurfaced or replaced, If you decline resurfacing or replacing of your rotors you will only get a 90 day warranty against defects and zero warranty against squeaking! And no a little play in your outer tie rod end will not cause your brakes to squeak, And yes you should replace your outer tie rod end if you want to keep your steering! A tie rod end is basically a ball and socket, When it has play it is because the socket is wearing out which means when it gets excessive the ball can pop out and you will loose the steering on that wheel!

    Do you need the plastic sleeve?

    Did you only replace the tie rod ends and the inner is OEM?

    • @NeverEnoughPyro40
      @NeverEnoughPyro40 Год назад +1

      No, inner and outer tie rods can both be replaced, It is more common for the outers to go bad!

  • @NeverEnoughPyro40
    @NeverEnoughPyro40 Год назад

    You are nuts if you think that your new outer tie rod end has the same dimensions as your OEM, Using that jam nut as a reference point is ridiculous and not the recommended way! So tell me what do you do if you have to replace the inner and outer tie rod end!

      What? Bro literally said once your done, go get it professionally aligned. But if you change both, use marking paint to get it close enough to drive.
