I need a list of things I want to do to my car before winter really hits.
I will save your video for reference.
Sounds like a good plan!
Nice video man. I always enjoy your content. Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Thanks man helped a lot
Awesome! No problem
That process didn't look half bad. In other older vehicles I would have said that it was so much easier that it was worth it to spend the money for a whole new control arm. I would definitely consider doing this to avoid replacing my aluminum control arm with a stamp steal version.
Agreed, the aluminum arm is so much nicer. It is worth the time to do. If you get friendly with your local dealer they might even let you borrow the tool 🙏😉 you do need a heavy duty impact tho.
Thanks for showing that i was a bout to return my oem Ball joint because don't have the the c clamp
No problem! Glad it helped!
Thank you
No problem!
Can you make a Video Explaning the Differences of Lower Control Arms ?
ie: Cast Iron , Aluminum and Stamped Steel ?
and are they interchangeable ?
i know also Different Knuckes were used : Cast Iron Knuckle and Aluminum Knucle
Sure can. Need to do a little research on it myself and I'll let ya know
Mines not clunking it's creaking over bumps and turning is that normal for these I've never seen a bill joint creak without play or clunk?? Any thoughts also I have a 2016 my arms are steel built 12/05/15 so idk what gives lol... Max tow package with factory duratracs
What’s the difference between that ball joints and the other ones that has c clip
I'm just guna replace whole arm upper and lower plus tie rods ... And you can get the aluminum ones aftermarket btw mine are steel but it's 2016 cuz built in December unfortunately I could go aluminum but don't want to chance not fitting
Have you ever replace the bushing in thoes control arm if so what’s the part number?
Like the kobalt wood chisel
Trying anything that we had to get it out lol
What’s the cripper part number or link to buy it?
I didn't have any luck using this method on cast iron lower control arms. Hours of chiseling only to cave in the center of the old ball joint with the press. I bit the bullet and bought new lower control arms, well worth the hassle. Aluminum arms must be more malleable
I think this method is only intended for the aluminum control arms but not 100% sure. The aluminum is definetely more malleable.
Can you replace both aluminum lower control arms that have aluminum knuckles with steel ones
Alluminum control arms will worth with steel knuckles but you have to make sure you get the correct knuckles designed to work with the alluminum control arms because the steel control arms have a differently shaped balljoint.
same for tahoe 2016 ? a mechanics once told me” aluminum control arm can’t withstand hard pressing so you need to buy new ctrl arms with ball joints” is that accurate?
Not sure. Worked fine in this case and he hasn't had any issues since
Do you know if they sell just the crimping adapter?
I'm guessing probably not but someone else may be able to speak to this
😎👍👍
I have a 2018 GMC Sierra. My ball joints have grease zerks. How do I grease them properly? I just found the right grease and gave them each four pumps. No grease came out....
It might need more. I usually grease them until it starts to overflow. YMMV
Do you know if the control arms are different on a 17 and 18 model?
Compare the part numbers. Not sure off hand.
And that new ball joint without a grease fitting will never come out now
Will this work on my 2015 1500 Silverado it has a bds suspension 6in. And they say I need new upper and lower control arms
It may - depends on the control arms you have.
So you were able to replace the ball joints without having to replace the control arm as well?
Yes
@@TheSundaeDrive awesome. Thanks for the reply!
No problem!
would the Aluminum knuckle Replace the Stamped Steel on my 2017 Tahoe ?
The problem is they used different sized ball joints so I don't believe it is a direct swap. I'm going to do a little research on this for you
@@TheSundaeDrive Thanks !!!
was little disapointed when i looked under SUV and noticed arms were Stamped Steel - Looks at 4.10 :ruclips.net/video/OBFjYnKn0eY/видео.html
2015 was aluminum Arms !!!
why the Change GM
Saving money 🤦🏼♂️
Si you can replace the ball joints on aluminum control arms!? I’ve gone to 3 shops and they’ve all said they can’t, you have to replace the whole control arm!
If you aren't afraid to put a little work in you can do it. show them this video lol
Lol a grinder and some self control would kock that out in 45 seconds 😄
Lol I suppose that would work too
Do you have to remove the entire lower control arm to replace that ball joint?
Might be able to figure out a way to do it on the vehicle but having it off definitely makes it a lot easier.
did this guy just say rent this tools for free.
Can you just buy the crimp piece (part that crimps the edge) separately instead of buying the 3
Not sure.
Shop told me mine were unservicable and I needed to get new control arms.
They are serviceable but most shops don't want to do the work. You need the GM tool I believe.
@@TheSundaeDrive where can you buy the gm tool
2:04 " Always make sure you wear proper face protection". Well, not everybody....
So true. I was yelling at Pete 😂
where can i get the crimping tool for the ball joint? do you know the nomenclature? I can't find one anywhere
We were fortunate enough to have access to a dealers tool set. The tool was over $500 I think. There may be some aftermarket ones out there that will work.
Thank you for the quick response! My Father and I came up with a solution...we ended up grinding down an old railroad spike to make a nice flat punch. we pressed in the ball joint and crimped it with the spike-punch and a sledgehammer... sounds janky but it worked really well 😂😅. Very helpful video! thank you! Liking and Subscribing!
Haha awesome! If it works it works!
Manufacturers always trying to make shit difficult..there are many other ways to secure that ball joint from coming off
For sure. Just an excuse to sell expensive tools and entire arms
Yeaa ima just other the whole thing f that
Next time lube the threads on your press
Definitely a good idea!
