I love this! Just started playing a month ago and learning fast. I don't understand that kya though. Haven't seen it yet while learning. Could somebody send me a link or explain plz? (: thanks
Cool lesson Tomlin ... I've always messed around playing amazing grace in a more bluesy style and this is a good resource you give to do just that ... I love gospel songs on the harmonica especially when you can play them in second position ... They sound that much more spiritual ... Thanks great lesson , keep up the great work .... ps I've been listening to Roly Platt for the first time , just recently and he's very entertaining ....
Hey Tomlin! Amazing version and lesson! Thanks for all the wonderful material on your channel! It would be great to see you giving tips for arranging melodies to sound bluesy like this one on a video!
dude ur the best harp teacher i ever saw ive learned a lot from u!!! i asked before and u said u would try to learn and post a few how to Huey Lewis videos just as a recommendation id love to get a video on the harmonica parts to songs: Working for a Living Let Her Go and Star Over The Heart of Rock and Roll
I'm getting so much out of your videos - this one the latest. Quick question: Are you going to do a video on vibrato. I think I'm practicing it correctly, but seeing you instruct it - or suggesting a good link elsewhere - would give me a little more confidence that I'm on the right path. Regardless, I'm grateful for all you offer here. Thank you!
Hi Jordan, thank you so much for your kind words. I do teach Vibrato and other more advanced techniques in my online Harmonica School - tomlinharmonicaschool.com/p/harmonica-school
Nice one dude. I saw the Aretha Franklin movie "Amazing Grace" last night, and it made me want to learn the song on harmonica. Out of all the versions that came up, I found this was the "Don" tutorial. It's a challenge but I'll be giving it a go. :-)
When I try to make the "a" sound of kya into the 2 draw it wants to bend. I've always had to make an "ee" sound for the 2 draw. So I'm going Uuee to get it close but it's not right.
I keep coming back to this, to improve how i sound. On thing i noticed, my sound is quite different (thinner sounding) on the -3 that starts the triplet. I found in could get closer to your more rounded sound by having my lips closed at the very start of the sound, opening them as the note (and subsequent note) progresses. as sort of a Bwwaaaah action. Is this what you are doing?
Thanks for (1) using a C harp and saying so up front, and (2) showing actual notes that give the timing as well as the pitch. This is how it should be done. Why is there the usual presumption that harmonica players are illiterate in music?
amazing lesson as always, i have just one question, i find my self without breath or rather inhaled too much air, any tips ?? Replace some 2 draw with 3 blow? thanks Uri
Hi Uri, This is a very common problem. I have a few things for you to think about; 1) Don't waste air by playing too hard (this is very common) 2) Use the same breath for multiple notes in the same direction i.e. if you have three draw notes in a row then that should be one breath. 3) Find some natural pauses where you can breathe out. Even if there are no breaks in the music, it is ok to cut a held note short at the end of a phrase so that you can catch your breath. I hope that helps! T

very nice, why you play a G key with c harmonic why not playing the C key with C harmonic ? thanks for the answer.
Hiya, Here is a lesson on that very subject - ruclips.net/video/hAgmbmvzjbY/видео.html
Any tips for the triplet in the first line? Are they separate breaths?
No - they should be all one breath otherwise it is too difficult to breathe :-)
I love this rendition, but for some reason I cant download the tab.

Hi Tomlin! I can't download the free tabs... how can I do?
Thanks for (1) using a C harp and saying so up front, and (2) showing actual notes that give the timing as well as the pitch. This is how it should be done. Why is there the usual presumption that harmonica players are illiterate in music?
Harmonica so hard.
What is "kya" meant in tab.. I cant seeany different
How u do the 3,3,2, 3(4) sir ? I know im late... sory at 3:28
I cannot get one note you play in this number. What model harp are you using ,? I have the Golden Melody !!!!
Been playing in the first position since I was 7. I am now 73. This is something I cannot get a grip on. Talking second position.
amazing lesson as always,

thank you very much, i'll keep practicing.
Breathe from stomach not chest.
Tomlin Leckie gg
One thing I'm wondering is what cases do you play harmonica third position
Hi Izaiah, most often it is used for Minor blues playing (not always). :-)
R u just hitting ur foot on the floor? It's not cheesie..
